Chapter Eighteen

“Yeobo,” Chul shook her form but she was still unconscious. He took her out of the car, carefully supporting her head as he ran inside the hospital. The rain is still pouring and both of them were drenched.

“Yeon Joo-ya…”  he tried once more. His tears were mixing up with the raindrops trickling on the sides of his face as he struggled. 

Only a few steps away…

“Yeon Joo, jebal.” He bowed his head down and kiss her forehead. “ Dowajuseyoo! Nugunga, dowajo…Dowajuseyoo, jebal (help me. Someone, help me…help me, please)

The doctors and nurses are flustered as they see the pregnant woman on his arms. They give him a stretcher and he put her down on it. They started checking her vitals but he was shocked when they started pumping her chest. “Yeobo?” Chul was scared as they continuously pump her chest. A machine was brought near and they started shocking her. They continuously massage her chest and was able to get a stable heartbeat.

 After hooking her up to a tank, they started talking  about emergency caesarian operation and how it is impossible for them to survive. 

Chul was ask to wait by the door as they entered inside the operating room.  He is shaking, not because he was drench in sweat and rain, not because of exhaustion but because of his family dying inside and him not being able to do anything about it. He bit his lip and punch the wall. His knuckles cracked and bled. The pain gave him satisfaction. It gave him the feeling of being alive.

He felt useless. He felt vulnerable. A sob shook his form as he lean back at the chair. He stared at the clock and agonizingly wait, praying for his wife and twins. 
He stood up suddenly when the door opened. They brought out Yeon Joo to the recovery room but before Chul follows, the doctor stopped him. 

“W have tried all that we could. The wound is too fatal. They fought so hard, but it was a lost cause. They have lost a lot of blood.“ He sigh before looking at Chul. “The babies did not survive. We have wrapped them up in a blanket. I know you would want to spend some moments with them before--”

“I understand.” Chul bowed, tears trickling on the side of his face. He entered the operating room and look at the two bundles lying on the small bed. He took both of them and smiled even if there were tears in his eyes, “My sons,” he kiss their forehead and hug them tight. He doesn’t want to let go but he knows that they were long gone. Taking a deep breath, he let the nurses took them off after naming them. “Chun Yeol-a , Jul Yeon-a, uri adeuleul…saranghae.” 

Wiping his tears, he went up and settled next to his wife, leaning on his arms and falling into a nap.

He woke with a start. Yeon Joo had already sat up. She was crying. 

She wipe her tears away and she look at him, “They were gone…my babies. Chul-! My sons, our babies, they are, they are—” 

“Shh,” Chul bit his lip. He took her on his arms and hug her but she was so hurt. She push him away and cried for her loss. She  clutch her side where the bullet wound is and said, “ We should have gone back. We should’ve went back when we had the chance to…”

Chul nodded as she continued. “ We should have tried. We should have tried to go back. My babies…” Chul hugged her but she was crying so hard. She was so hurt and he is so lost. 

The both of them cried over their sons.

Yeon Joo was hurt because she wasn’t even able to hold her babies. Chul was guilty because he knows that she is right. They should have tried to go back for the sake of their sons. They were both silent, both lost in their own thoughts. 

The next day, Yeon Joo ask for him to bring her back home. Reluctantly, the doctors agreed. Doctor Go made sure that Yeon Joo will be well cared for her quick recovery. 

The ride back home is as silent as it could be. 

Yeon Joo spent it by watching the vehicles pass by. Chul was busy staring at her. Deo Yoon felt pity for the both of them. They don’t deserve this. 

They arrive back at the penthouse in no time. Chul insisted that he will carry her, Yeon joo not having the energy to fight with him, agreed. When they reach the hall of the house, Yeon Joo did not head inside their room to rest but was bewitch by their babies’ room. 

Yeon Joo took the onesies and the blanket, wrapping it around her. Chul stared, hurt. He couldn’t even do anything. His hands shakes with grief and anger. He wanted to kill Han Cheol Ho’s son. He wants vengeance to get even. 

Chul breathe in and breathe out, trying to control his temper. He slowly made his way inside the babies room and took his wife into his arms. 
She wanted to believe that it was all a lie. That she was dreaming. How good would it be to be a dream? She hopes and she ask for it. Thinking that somehow someone will edit the story and make her misery stop. 

She shook so bad as she cried. “My babies, my ba—bies… they’re not gone…no, no…”

She yanked at Chul, urging herself to get closer. Her eyes dampened his clothes, her sobs made her heave. This made him look at her with a sad expression, holding her close “ If you are hurt because of what happen, then do everything you could to averse this. Find whoever did this to our babies. They do not deserve this , Chul. They do not. This is like what happen to you in the past. I ask you, Chul, find the man who did this, for our family…” She whispered before collapsing on his waiting arms. 

He took her on his arms and made his way to their bedroom. He lay her down on the bed, kissing her forehead and contacting his men so as to locate Han Cheol Ho’s son. He took the gun under his pillow and made his way out through the elevators. 

As he descend,  he wasn’t aware of her wife slowly disappearing until she wasn’t there. 

Yeon Joo was transported back in the real world, eyes closed, fatigued body but with babies still safe in her womb.
