[Dara’s POV]

I filled a cup of water before going to Jiyong’s room. He was still asleep, his chest heaving up and down steadily. I hated to wake him up, but something had to be done about his cheeks. Reaching over, I shook him awake and propped him up on his pillos.

He mumbled incoherently with his eyes closed. “Jiyong? Drink half of this.”

Grasping the glass shakily, he brought it to his lips and took a few sips. I took the cup back and placed it on the bedside table, dipping the cotton wool into the water to make it wet.

“This will hurt a bit.” Cupping his chin to keep him still, I used to the cotton wool to dab at his wounds. As expected, he jerked his head back, a curse hanging on his lips. “Stay still,” I frowned as I wrapped my fingers more firmly into his skin and continued to clean away the blood.

[Jiyong’s POV]

Still a bit groggy from the short, 5 minutes sleep I had, I felt myself being pulled into a sitting position. I found myself mumbling like a little kid, “I wanna sleep.”

Hopefully, she didn’t hear that.

“Jiyong?” She crooned. Bleurg. “Drink of this.” Her soft fingers pried my hand open and slipped a cup into my hold. The cold drink slipped down my dry throat, easing the dryness. I hear a clink when she placed the glass back on the table. Her small hands wrapped around my chin.

“This will hurt a bit.”

At the first prod of the wet cotton wool, pain spread through my cheek like wildfire. My eyes flew open as I flinched away from her hold. “Stay still.” She chided me gently. Easy for you to say. You aren’t the one sitting on a bed with someone poking at your wounds.

When she dabbed again, I snapped back at her. “ this.”

She replaced the cotton wool with alcohol wipes when most of the blood was gone and made the first swipe. It didn’t hurt so much anymore.

“I don’t have any plasters,” She murmured when she was done, ignoring my previous comment. “There aren’t any in the first aid kit.” Chewing her bottom lip thoughtfully, she cupped my head with both hands and turned it to inspect the scratches. When she raised a finger to one, I was relieved when it no longer stung.

Instead of going back home after returning the box, she came back with another glass of water. I forced some of the liquid down before pushing the cup back. I didn’t want to go for a trip to the toilet later on.

Dara stared at the rim of the glass hesitantly before lifting it to her lips to gulp it down.

It was 9.45PM already. “Go home Dara.”

“What happened?”

I sighed. “My mother came for money. Slapped me twice. Tried to strangle me. Now go home.”

Instead of heading for home, she headed for my bed and climbed in next to me. My eyes widened in alarm as the bed dipped to the side with her weight. “What the hell are you doing?”

“Shh…” As I was laying on my side facing the wall, I couldn’t see what she was doing.

“What the f-”

Her hands felt surprisingly cold against my neck when she touched it. Massaging it gently. My muscles relaxed under her touch as she continued. “Dara, seriously, go home.”

I wanted to sleep, but I had to make sure she went home safely.

“Dara, just go home.”

“Mmm,” she hummed in reply. My eyelids began to drop. She removed her hands from my neck only to place them on my head instead. Running them through my hair, combing it.

It reminded me of happier times.

When I was a kid.

When my mother still loved me.

When my father was still next to me.

“You have to bathe early tomorrow Ji…”

Those were the last words I heard as I drifted off to sleep.
