The Kissing Booth {Yewook}

Memories [A Collection of One Shots and Drabbles]

a/n: I wrote this really quickly and I didn’t read over it, so sorry if it doesn’t make much sense ;; It’s not my most polished and well thought out piece of writing, hahaha

Ryeowook didn’t want to work the college fair. He didn’t even want to go, really. There was no point. The college fair was the one time that everyone on campus could get drunk and not get in trouble for it and they definitely took advantage of that. Last year, he’d been roped into helping at the dunking booth and he vowed after that night that he would never again step foot within twenty feet of one. But his best friend, Sungmin, had been organizing the fair this year and wanted everything to be perfect; unfortunately, he couldn’t find enough volunteers and had played the ‘I went with you to that chorus recital to see you-know-who’ card and that’s how Ryeowook found himself miserably sitting in the Kissing Booth.

Halfway through the evening, Sungmin came bouncing over to him, beaming. “How’s it going? Have we made lots of money yet?” he chirped, peering into the collection jar. He blinked in surprise at the small number of bills resting on the bottom. “Has no one been by?” He looked sad that his idea wasn’t working out as well as he’d hoped.

Ryeowook moaned, hitting his forehead against the wooden booth. “Minnie hyung, no one at this college is interested in a kissing booth. They’re all too busy sneaking extra drinks under the bleachers and, realistically, no one wants to kiss me anyway, especially if they have to pay for it.”

Sungmin pouted. “Well, maybe if you had a better attitude about it, you would have had more customers by now!”

“I hate doing this, hyung!” the younger man whined, making a face. “I’ve kissed three girls on the cheek and that’s it and they only came over because they felt bad for me! I’m a nobody here. You should have gotten one of the popular kids to do it. I can’t do this. Besides, you know…” He suddenly quieted down, blushing as he mumbled, “You know I already like somebody.”

Sungmin thought for a second, then sighed. “You’re right. I shouldn’t have made you do this, I suppose. But can you just hang in here for another hour or so? I promise I’ll do something special for you to make up for it!”

Ryeowook mumbled something that sounded like an agreement and his hyung bounced off into the crowd of town members that were filling up the courtyard. He sank back into his seat and tilted his head to look up at the stars that were just beginning to come out. This hour couldn’t pass by quick enough.

---

Hunting down one particular choir member wasn’t nearly as hard as Sungmin had originally anticipated it would be. As it turned out, said choir member was standing not too far away from the Kissing Booth, munching on a bag of cotton candy and doing his best to not look interested in the action taking place a few feet away. When he was approached by Sungmin, Jongwoon at first seemed surprised and only grew more agitated as the conversation progressed. By the time Sungmin left, the older student was having a very hard time keeping his ‘cool’ image in place.

Jongwoon was a member of the college choir and lead singer in a band that he was in the process of forming. He was known all over campus and too many people for his liking followed him around in the hallways, so he never really got to talk to the shy figure that he often saw stumbling his way through the music building. So, when Sungmin presented him with an opportunity, he couldn’t help but be both excited and nervous.

He waited until the guests started to leave and the volunteers started to pack up before he shyly slid over toward the Kissing Booth, clearing his throat hesitantly as he held out a bill.

“Sorry, but I’m not doing this anymore; my shift is over and it’s time to clean…”

Ryeowook’s voice died in his throat when he finally looked up and saw who it was.

“Don’t you have time for just one more?”

Jongwoon, who had been rehearsing the statement over and over in his mind for the past thirty minutes, fumbled the words, silently cursing his nerves. He never got this scared when he was performing on stage.

“Um, I…I…er…”

“I, uh, I can pay you more if you want, I just—” Jongwoon internally groaned. What was he doing?

Ryeowook shook his head quickly. “It’s not that!  I just…I’m a nobody. Why would you…” He paused, taking a deep breath. “Why would you want a kiss from me?”

Jongwoon smiled suddenly, leaning over the booth and gently taking the younger man’s chin in his hand. “Why wouldn’t I?” he murmured, then pressed their lips together.

Ryeowook felt his entire face heat up, but he didn’t pull away; when Jongwoon didn’t either, he let his eyes slip closed, their lips moving together in a soft, innocent kiss that spread a warmth from the tip of his toes to the ends of his hair. When they finally separated, they realized the end-of-the-fair fireworks were exploding above them and Ryeowook managed a small smile.

“I guess working the Kissing Booth wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be.”
