Chapter 23: Confusion.

The playboy

After Sungyeol left Myungsoo, his headache only intensified. It had been quite a long time since he felt so bad. In fact, the last time he had such a pounding migraine, he was being trained in some isolated area by one of Kim Soo Shin top bogyguard. You can pretty much guess the hellish training he had had to endure. At many occasion, Sungyeol had even went as far as to wonder how on earth he manage to survive all the killer stunt Kai, his master and Kim Soo Shin right arm, had pulled on him. The only time he really did almost die was during a millitary type of training in which he had had to stay for about a week alone on a deserted island. The whole ordeal was to test his survival instinct. What they didn't expect was that the island was a crawling nest of vipere. With a tired snort at the memory, Sungyeol pulled over at his driveway and instead of getting out, he decided to rest his head a short while on his steering wheel when a knock on his window tore him out of his peace. Frowning at the unexpected disturbance, he slid down his window and damn, his migraine ironically flew out of the window. Stepping out of his car, Sungyeol pulled on his unfaze expression and said almost with pure boredom

"May i help you?" Casually locking his car and turning his head to face the man dressed in a dark suit, looking pretty much like the men's in black in the movie with Will Smith, Sungyeol mentally enumerated what he knew about the familiar man. He wasn't anyone very important nor was he successful but from the information Sungyeol's had gathered, the man sent by the name Byung. He worked as a bodyguard and actually owns the bodyguard company. A huge one at that. At least here in Korea. He was pretty tight with many unclear politicians and more particularly Choi Myriong. The very man Sungyeol wanted to take down. If he was here it can only mean one thing. As predictably as Sungyeol had guessed, the bodyguard said in a tone Sungyeol didn't appreciate much

"Follow me."

"I'm sorry but i've been taught not to follow stranger." With that, Sungyeol was about to leave but was stopped by a couple of bodyguard, he guessed was working for the middle man, who blocked his way. That only serve in annoying Sungyeol who hated more than anything feeling forced into doing anything. However, with his steel nerves, he drew in a breath, turn to Byung and asked in a blank tone

"What is the meaning of this?"

"I told you to follow us. I'm not going to repeat myself." Again with an order. Sungyeol knew the man was older than him but still. Didn't he know how to be polite? What's the use of having lived so many years if he can't doesn't even have basic manner.

"Neither do i want you to but do you mind telling me why and how can i trust guys i barely know? You know that if you embark me against my will it's considered kidnapping. I do trust i don't need to tell you how many years you risk if i report you." Seeing as the man didn't seem the least bit intimidated, Sungyeol shoved his hand cooly in his pockets and muttered unnerved

"Wah, how irritating... Fine. I'll go with you." Sungyeol knew he was taking a risk following blindly the ennemy but he had very little chance getting away unharmed anyway from the whole situation. He could at least try to take them on but that be too much of a hassle and for now he didn't want to give Choi Myriong any reason to stay away from him. It's true that he hated having people dealing with him in such cowardly way by sending their lackey in hopes to somehow install fear in him. So if his opponents thought those silly way doing would be enough to keep him out of their business, Sungyeol felt like he needed to verbally express his thoughts about those methods. And what better way to do it that spitting it to their face. In any case, it was about time he had a little talk with the man who fought with his father in every aspect.

Not far from the scene, Woohyun who had been waiting for some time now outside Sungyeol's apartment, sigh for the uptenth time as he checked once again his phone. To say he was annoyed was an understatement. He was beyond pissed. How can that brat of Sungyeol ask him to go to his apartment, if he wasn't going to be around. Plus if he was going to be late, he should at least call so he wouldn't be standing like an idea in front of his dongsaeng's apartment. Woohyun was then about to call Sungyeol's phone when his eyes scanned slowly a pot of flower hanging above his head. Why is it here? Woohyun mentally wondered when a knwing smile spread on his face. Sliding his phone back in the back pocket of his pants, his smile only grew when he found without much difficulty at key hidden in a fake stone.

"So predictable." He said with a short laugh. Walking into the neat apartment, Woohyun immediately made his way in the kitchen and prepare himself a sandwich before returning in the living where he comfortably sat on the couch and turn on the TV. Taking a bite in his sandwich he wondered out loud

"Just where the heck is that idiot? Never mind" Woohyun busied himself then by zapping through every channel while waiting for his best friend.

Sungyeol was now waiting in a rather sinister library that from what Byung had said was suppose to be a study room. Well, that was what the man said. The reality however screamed something totally different. For instance, that the room needed serious cleaning and also, what was with the curtains drawn. It only made it even more sinister and hostile than it was already. Sungyeol wasn't here to judge the man's interior taste anyway. Just then the door of the study room opened and there appear the very man he had only seen either from the photos he'd seen in a political article or afar. From upclose, Sungyeol couldn't help but notice how old he look. He almost look... Gentle? Shaking out the absurd description from his head, Sungyeol asked

"Mr Myriong. I have to say you have quite a way to make a first impression. Do you always sent your men to meet people like this?" Mr Myriong let out a laugh at the words then sitting in front of Sungyeol, he said

"I'm sorry. Did Byung scare you? I didn't mean to."

"Scare me? He upsetted me instead. After all, he pretty much ordered me here. And as a man you can imagine how i felt for having been so rudely spoken to without an apparent reason. I get that he's older than me so he can be that rude to me but shouldn't there be a level of respect in any case?" The man who had several silver hair falling on his forehead, smiled apologetically in response

"I'm really sorry. Byung isn't much of a talker. He can be really awkard at times so most of the times he gets misunderstands. I hope you won't hold it against him." Sungyeol shrugged in response and said

"It depends."

"Of what if i may ask?"

"If this conversation is worth it. Enough for having been so rudely spoken to." Sungyeol must've said something really funny for the old man immediately cracked up. And it was the amused type of laugh but litteraly a hysterical one. If Sungyeol didn't know better, he would've thought the man in front of him was chocking. When finally, Mr Myriong seemed to calm down, he said breathlessly

"I'm sorry then. Actually i don't think what i have to tell you is very important."

What the hell, then why am i here? Hang on a second, something doesn't feel right, Sungyeol thought perplexe.

"When i first heard that you came back i couldn't believe it. Actually i didn't think you'll ever come back."

"Well, here i am."

"Yeah. Surprinsingly you are. Do you want to drink something?" With a simple shake of the head, Myriong served himsefl a glass of whisky then after taking a sip from it, he continued

"I'm really sorry about your family." At those words, Sungyeol almost laughed at the irony of the situation. Was he seriously trying to pull the sympathic guy card with him?

"I know your father and i hadn't been in really good terms but he didn't deserve what happened to him or anyone of your fami..."

"Can you please just get straight to the point? If you asked me to come here simply to give me your condolescences then let's do us both a favor. And just send me a card. That'll do."

"Who's rude now." Myriong pointed out though he didn't sound angry. No in fact he sounded almost pained. Something that Sungyeol really didn't expect from the man. Wasn't he playing all this wrong? Wasn't he suppose to hate my father? Why was he acting so odd? No, the problem wasn't that he didn't act as someone that hates someone else dearly but more like he didn't have the profile of someone having living with guilt or who has his hands dirty. In fact, he looked genuinely pained and not the guilty type. Just sad. Sungyeol was seriously beginning to have a headache and that only served to annoy him further. Either Choi Myriong was an amazing actor or he wasn't as keen in psychology as he thought he was.

"I'm sorry if i'd hurt your feelings in anyway. But i bet any apology i'll give you won't really mean much so instead take this." He hands Sungyeol a folder as thick as a novel. From the looks of it, it was something carefully put together and taken care of. Quite a shock since most fo the books in here seemed like they were practically falling apart so the folder made a huge contrast in comparison. With a frown, Sungyeol asked

"What is this?"

"Just read it." Sungyeol was about to do what the older man told him to do when Myriong caught him by the wrist and said

"Not now. Do it when you are alone. Don't let it fall into the wrong hands." Sungyeol looked even more perplexe and Myriong must've known for he explained calmly with a soothing smile

"You and i have a lot of misunderstantings. Hopefully after reading those papers, you'll understand things better. "

"Mr Myriong, what are you..."

"I know you've been tailing me." Sungyeol eyes immediately widen at the words. He was about to wisely deny the accusation but didnn't have the chance for Myriong ssi said

"It's ok i don't blame you. I have to admit i pretty much have the profile of someone who would do it. But there's something you've missed from the very beginning. And actually i was surprised that for a genius like you, you made such a mistake."

Ignoring the not so subtle insult, Sungyeol asked

"And what might it be? After all like you said you have the perfect profile. So what could i have missed?"

"From the way you say it, i have a feeling you have some sort of evidence to back you up. Well then it that case let me ask you just one question?"

"Go on." Sungyeol challenged.

"Do you really know the relationship between me and your father?"

Woohyun was asleep when Sungyeol returned from wherever he was. At the sound of the door closing, the hyung immediatley rose from his nap and tiredly asked Sungyeol

"Ya, where have you been?" However instead of answering, Sungyeol angrily threw what looked like a folder on the floor and cursed frustatingly

"The is going on."

"Ya, what's up with you?" Sungyeol wasn't listening at all, so Woo hyun picked up the thrown papers and his eyes widens as he asked actively

"Where did you get these? Are those authentic?" Sungyeol glared darkly at the paper and spat disgustingly

"Hyung, can you do me a favor?" Without letting Woo hyun answer, he said with his hands interlink under his chin

"I need to see Samchon."

"Ok. But he's currently in Jeju. Do you want me to call him back?"

"No i'll go myself he's attending his sister's wedding after all. I'm not going to ask him to ditch his only family member's wedding to come back here. However the matter can't wait, so I'll go."

"Ok, so why do you need me?"

"Woohyun ssi? Why are you here?" A handsome brunet asked as he watched Woohyun sit on the seat in front of his desk. It has been three days since he last talked to Sungyeol before he went for Jeju. Of course, he called Sungyeol several time to stay tune in whatever things that were happening unfortunately since yesterday, Woohyun was unable to reach him. He didn't have the time to worry however. He had a bigger problem unfortunately. And it was now sitting in front of him looking curiously back at him.

"Hello to you too Sungyuu ssi. I'm here about the luxury line. Unfortunately, Sungyeol has some matter to take care of so i'll be taking over for him until his return. Please take care of me then." Sungyuu looked smug for a moment before he rests his chin on the palm on his hand

"Shouldn't it be the other way around, Sunbae(1) ?"

Gosh i really hate kids nowadays. How can two people be equally annoying? No wonder, he's friends with Myungsoo. They are practically soulmate. Gee Sungyeol you owe me big time!
