Chapter 12: Protecting You

I'm Not Cute!

Sungmin’s POV

I sighed as I tucked in my pink dress shirt and fixed my white tie around my neck. Today was Kyuhyun’s father’s business party, and he sent me a white suit to wear along with a pink dress shirt. He didn’t forget my favorite color. When I finished tying the tie, I pulled the white vest over my head along with the white jacket that went along with it. I took a look at myself in the mirror and dusted off my suit, sweeping my hands over the crisp fabric. I fixed my hair one last time and smiled. I really didn’t look that bad.

Suddenly, I heard a knock on my door. I scurried quickly out of my room towards my front door. I guess that it would be Ryeowook and Eunhyuk, and I was right. I opened my door to see a smiling Ryeowook and an annoyed Eunhyuk.

“Eunhyuk, what are you wearing?” I chuckled. He was wearing a bright yellow suit with a bow tie around his neck.

“I didn’t have a suit and didn’t have time to buy one, so I asked Donghae to get me one and he brought me this. He said it would go well with his red one,” he mumbled as I let the both of them in.

“C’mon hyung, it’s not that bad,” Ryeowook assured.

“Are you kidding me!? I look like a fruity lemon! It’s humiliating!”

“At least Donghae will look humiliating with you,” I reassured as well, and he responded by grunting. The three of us spent half an hour in my living room. We were eating cake and other sweets while waiting for the other three to arrive. Before we knew it, we heard a knock on the door. I stood up from the couch and walked towards the door to open it. My eyes grew bigger when I saw Kyuhyun leaning against the wall. He wore the exact same thing I was wearing, except his dress shirt was black. He held onto his jacket over his shoulder and stared at me and I stared at him back. I had to admit; he looked good. He smiled at me and I knew my cheeks became pink.

“Well, would you look at that? The suit does look good on you,” he said, causing me to blush even more. “Oi, monkey! Maknae! Let’s go!” Eunhyuk and Ryeowook got up from the couch and walked past us. I closed the door behind me after I grabbed my phone off of the table and followed them out to a car. I was going to follow Eunhyuk and Ryeowook into the car, where Yesung was in the driver’s seat and Donghae was sitting in the back, but Kyuhyun tugged on my arm and pointed to a different car.

“We’re going in a different car?” I asked.

“There’s no room in the other one,” he replied, leading me to the other car. Once we reached it, he opened the door for me and I got in as he went around to the driver’s seat.

“I didn’t know you had a car, let alone drive.”

“I got my license a long time ago, but I don’t have anywhere to really drive to. Plus, this is one of my father’s cars. He lent it to me to use today.” And with that, we were off. Kyuhyun sat in silence as he continued to drive. I stayed quiet as well, just staring out the window, until I looked at Kyuhyun again. I was admiring the way he looked. I’d never seen him like this before. He looked more mature and I think it really suits him. To be honest, I wouldn’t mind seeing him like this every day. Suddenly, he stopped at a stoplight and looked at me. I didn’t look away and just stared into his eyes. For some reason, I couldn’t look away.

“Why do you keep staring at me?” Kyuhyun asked with a gentle smile. I blushed as I broke his gaze.

“I-I just t-thought that you looked r-really nice today, K-Kyu,” I answered softly, and he chuckled lightly.

“You look really nice too, Minnie. And cute.”

“Yah!” he chuckled again before the light turned green once again and stepped on the gas pedal to go. I stared out the window and pouted the entire ride over to Kyuhyun’s father’s company building.

Once we arrived, Kyuhyun parked at an empty parking space that was next Yesung’s car. When we got out, so did the other four. I couldn’t help but laugh a little at Donghae and Eunhyuk’s suits. They definitely stood out, wearing bright yellow and red suits. Once we were all together, Kyuhyun and Yesung led the way over to the building. It was incredibly huge. It might be the biggest building I’ve ever seen. The inside was no different either. The floor was covered in dark blue, marble tiles and the walls were covered with various expensive paintings. We were led to an elevator where we went to the highest floor.

When the elevator doors opened again, we saw a somewhat classy party. Business men and women dressed in nice suits and dresses, a light style of music playing in the background, and wine, lots and lots of wine. As the six of is stepped in, some people gave us weird looks - some started whispering, and others just ignored us.

“Hyukkie look! There’s food over there!” Donghae exclaimed, pulling an annoyed Eunhyuk with him.

“Ryeowook, would you like something to eat as well?” Yesung asked, and Ryeowook nodded his head with a smile before they headed where Donghae and Eunhyuk were, leaving me with Kyuhyun standing next to me.

“You’re not getting anything for yourself?” I asked. He shook his head.

“I ate before we came here,” he answered, looking like he was already bored. I stood next to him quietly and awkwardly because many people were staring at me. I didn’t stare at them back, but rather I was staring at the wine glasses everyone had. I really wanted some, but didn’t know where to get it. “Do you want wine?” Kyuhyun asked me.

Great, now he can read minds. I nodded my head and smiled gently once more. “I’ll go get it for you.” He walked away to get me wine, leaving me by myself, making things even more awkward. I noticed a girl in a black dress walking towards me, holding her own glass of red wine.

“Hmph. Never seen you around here before. Who are you?” she asked.

“I-I’m Lee Sungmin.”

“Which company are you from?”

“I’m not from any company. I was invited to come here by Cho Kyuhyun.”

“Cho Kyuhyun? Hm, that would explain the clothes you got on you. Of course a commoner wouldn’t have things like that. You wouldn’t even be here if it wasn’t for him, let alone the fact that you shouldn’t even be here in the first place,” she spat. I scoffed at her attitude.

“Yah, what did you just call me?”

“Oh, I’m sorry. I meant to say a low-life commoner who probably uses high-class people like Cho Kyuhyun to get what you want.” I didn’t even know this girl and I hated her already. Who is she to tell me all of these things!? I was about to say something when Kyuhyun came back with two glasses of wine.

“Hyun Jae, what are you doing?” he asked. So Hyun Jae was her name?

“Oppa! I’m so glad you came!” she exclaimed, trying to pull off an innocent smile. I scoffed again at her change in disposition.

“Hyun Jae, go away. I’m not in the mood to put up with you today,” Kyuhyun ordered.

“Aww, oppa, you’re no fun,” she pouted. I felt like throwing up just by looking at her.

“I mean it. I don’t want you bothering Sungmin.” I smiled a little when he said this. Hyun Jae looked at me - or rather glared - and I just smirked at her.

“Hmph, fine.” She finally walked away while Kyuhyun handed me a glass of wine.

“Thanks,” I said as I took a sip of wine.

“No problem. She didn’t say anything to you, did she?” I thought for a moment. I shouldn’t tell him what she said to insult me. She probably annoyed him enough, considering how he acted towards her.

“Nope,” I answered, and he nodded his head before taking a sip of his beverage.

“I hate her. Along with Yesung, we used to be childhood ‘friends’. And by friend, I mean stalker. Everywhere I went, she’d be there to annoy me. She’s obsessed with me, but she’s just a pain in the ,” Kyuhyun told me. I was shocked by the sudden cursing, but I guess I saw it coming. He must've been really annoyed by her. A minute passed, and Eunhyuk, Donghae, Ryeowook, and Yesung came back with small plates of food to share.

Time passed and it was already 8:00pm. Hours seemed to have passed by in a blink of an eye. Even though so much time had passed, the six of us stayed together and just chatted. However, through the entire day, I had not yet seen Kyuhyun’s father. Was he even here? I also couldn’t help but notice Hyun Jae staring at me with a death glare every time she walked by, but I chose to ignore her. Suddenly, we heard Yesung’s phone go off.

“Hello?” he answered. “…yeah…we’re out here at the party…right now?...o-okay…we’ll be right there.” He hung up his phone and sighed.

“Is everything alright?” Ryeowook asked him, and Yesung smiled at him.

“Don’t worry, everything will be fine. Kyuhyun and I will be back in a minute, so please excuse us.”

“Where are we going?” Kyuhyun asked. Yesung just stared at him, as if he was talking with his eyes, and suddenly, Kyuhyun understood.

“I’ll be back, Sungmin,” he told me and left with Yesung. Something told me something bad was about to happen.

“I wonder what that was about,” Eunhyuk spoke up.

“It was probably their father,” Donghae stated. “Usually when Yesung hyung gets a call and acts like that, their father wants to see him and Kyuhyun. And every time, nothing good ever happens. I hope their father isn’t in a bad mood right now.” I stood frozen with a dumbfounded look on my face, and I knew Ryeowook had the same expression.

“Let’s go.” I pulled Ryeowook with me towards where Kyuhyun and Yesung went while Eunhyuk and Donghae followed. Something was going to happen to Kyuhyun. I just knew it.

Kyuhyun’s POV

Sure enough, my father was in his office, sitting in his chair when Yesung and I entered the room. I was more surprised to see Hyun Jae standing next to him with a smirk. I closed the door behind me and stood next to Yesung in front of our father’s desk. As always, he didn’t look happy.

“You wanted to see us, Father?” Yesung finally spoke up after a long silence.

“Where are your guests?” he asked.

“They’re outside enjoying the par-”

“Hyun Jae told me you brought commoners.”

“W-well, yes. You said we could bring guests and we d-”

“I didn’t say you could bring filthy commoners here.”

“They’re not filthy commoners, Father. They’re our fri-”

“No son of mine is going to be acquainted with a commoner. You even dare to bring that here with you.”

“Would you please stop talking about Donghae that way? You know he and his father have nothing do with-”

“Shut up!” he yelled as he slammed his hands on the desk and stood up. He walked around his desk and stood in front of Yesung. “Don’t you even dare try and talk back to me. Just shut the hell up. I noticed Yesung gulped and nodded his head. “You will not talk to me that way when you become the owner of my company.”

“But Father, I told you that I was going to become a singer!”

“You’re still hanging onto that stupid dream? Why don’t you just give it up? You won’t succeed.”

“I will if you just believe I ca-!”

Slap!

He slapped Yesung hard across the face and fell down. I rushed to his side to help him stand up.

“I told you not to talk back. You will become the owner of this company whether you want to or not and that’s final. Same goes for you,” he growled and pointed at me.

“Me?!”

“Yes, you’ll become co-owners.”

“What!? I don’t want to! You can’t make me! I refuse!” I yelled.

“You want to get slapped too, you ungrateful child?” he growled again, but I wasn’t afraid of him. He’s got to do a lot better to scare me than just to threaten me.

“Father, you can’t make Kyuhyun do something he doesn’t want to,” Yesung spoke. “He’s still a kid anyway! He can’t-!”

“I said shut the hell up!”

Slap!

The slap lingered on my cheek as I stood in front of Yesung, but unlike him, I didn’t fall. I stood in place and practically had a stare down with my father.

“Don’t you dare touch my brother when he hasn’t done anything to you.” I didn’t care that I was standing up to possibly the scariest man in Seoul. No one slaps my brother for no reason. My father gritted his teeth and I can see the anger in his eyes.

“This is why I hate people like you. You’re all pieces of who don’t know what to do with their lives.”

“And this is why I hate people like you. You’re all bastards who have no hearts and cheat on other people to get money.” This probably raised his anger to maximum level. He raised his hand and I prepared myself to be slapped again and closed my eyes.

“You son of a-!”

Odd enough, I didn’t feel his touch. I opened my eyes and couldn’t believe what I saw.

“Sungmin?” Sungmin stood in front of me, holding my father’s hand in the air. He looked like he was ready to kill someone.

“Sir, I would appreciate it if you don’t hit either of your sons anymore,” he tried to say politely. My father drew his arm back and stared at him.

“And who are you supposed to be?”

“I’m his ‘filthy commoner guest’. Got a problem with me? Then take it out on me, not your son.” I saw my father’s anger rising again, so I grabbed Sungmin’s hand and dragged him out of his office to the elevator, where the other four followed us.

“Hyung, are you okay?” Ryeowook asked as he touched Yesung’s cheek gently.

“I’m fine. It doesn’t hurt.” Yesung sighed.

“Thank goodness.”

“How did you guys know where we were?”

“I showed them,” said Donghae.

“Thanks, Donghae,” I said, and he nodded his head. I looked at Sungmin next to me, who still looked mad. Once we reached the first floor, we all walked out of the building toward the cars. “Yesung, take them home,” I told Yesung and he nodded his head. The four of them got into the car and drove off as Sungmin and I got into mine.

Once our seatbelts were on, I started the car and began to drive. Sungmin didn’t talk once. He just stayed quiet and stared out the window, obviously still upset. I tried talking to him, but he wouldn’t speak. I tried a few more times until I eventually gave up and continued to drive. Finally, after the long drive, we arrived at Sungmin’s house. When I stopped the car, he immediately got out and I followed him. He opened his door and stormed inside, forgetting that he left his key in the lock. I took the key out and closed the door behind me.

“You wanna talk now?” I asked. Sungmin took off his jacket and slammed it on the floor as he sat on the couch, covering his face. I took off my jacket as well but placed it gently on a chair. I noticed that there was an unopened bottle of wine on his table and went to go pour him a glass as well as for myself. As I had the two wine glasses in my hand, I quickly walked towards him and held the glass in front of him. He uncovered his face and took the glass.

“Thanks,” he said softly. I took a seat next to him as he took a sip.

“Are you okay now?” I asked, and he sighed.

“I’m sorry. I was just pissed off earlier.”

“I wouldn’t blame you.”

“What kind of father just slaps his own son like that!? Unbelievable! If he had a problem with us being there, he shouldn’t be blaming you.”

“He kinda can. I was the one who brought you anyway. You didn’t have to come, but I begged, so it’s my fault.”

“I wanted to come.” I stared at Sungmin for a moment, shocked by what he said.

“What?”

“I wanted to come. I chose to. It’s not like you forced me. Its not your fault and its not mine either. It's his because he’s a terrible father.”

“You don’t have to get mad at him because of me-”

“He called you ungrateful! That’s what made me mad! How dare he call you that!?” Sungmin took his wine glass and gulped down the whole thing. I set my wine glass down and got up to get the wine bottle. When I came back, I poured more wine into his glass. This repeated for about an hour. He’d express how mad he was, drink wine; then I’d pour some more, and he’d express how mad he was again. I learned two things today: One, Sungmin really loves wine; and two, he drinks when he’s upset. His anger started to fade as he downed his fifth glass. By then, I knew he was a little drunk because his words began to slur a little.

Suddenly, he stopped talking and just sat still. He was staring at nothing. I took the glass out of his hand and waved my hand in front of his face. “Sungmin? Are you okay?” I nudged him a little and he started to laugh.

“Ahahahaha! Stop it Kyu! That tickles!”

“But I didn’t tickle you.”

“Yes you did!” he giggled. I smiled. He’s drunk. He’s completely drunk now. “Hey Kyu! Let’s play a game!”

“Okay. What game?”

“Let’s play 'I Spy'!” I chuckled.

“Okay. You go first.”

“I spy something…that looks like you!”

“…is it me?”

“Yes! You’re right! You’re good at this game!” I had to laugh even more. I learned another thing today. He’s unbelievably cute when he’s drunk. “It’s your turn, Kyu!”

“I spy something…cute.”

“Is it you?”

“Why would it be me?”

“'Cause you’re cute, Kyu! Your face, your smile, and your laugh. I think you’re cute Kyu~” I blushed at his drunk confession and smiled.

“I was talking about you, Minnie.” His cheeks turned pink and he smiled.

“Thanks, Kyu!” I should get him drunk more often. He doesn’t get mad when I call him cute. We played a couple more games of “I Spy” until I had to carry him to his room because he didn’t want to sleep. Although he didn’t want to, he changed into his pajamas and crawled into bed. I was about to leave his room until I felt a pair of arms around my waist.

“Sungmin, what are you doing?”

“Don’t go…” he whispered. I turned off the light and carried him to his bed. As I tucked him in, I sat down next to him against the headboard and sang him a lullaby. He sat up a little to lay down on my stomach and I continued to sing while his hair.

“Don’t go Kyu…” I smiled after I finished singing. It made me happy to think that Sungmin cares about a guy like me. I bent down a little and kissed his eyelids as he started to fall asleep. I heard that if you kiss someone’s eyelids, it helps them sleep better.

“I’m not going anywhere, Sungmin.”

Not now, and not anytime soon.

A/N: So, this is my second attempt to post this chapter. I posted this chapter last week-ish. I haven't been on all week, so I didn't know that the site crashed, so when I came back, the chapter was gone. Thank goodness I had it saved >.> But anyway, chapter 12 is here again~ More Kyuminnnn~ Ohohoho. I thought about making  this chapter rated because of the foul language I put in here, but it wasn't really much, so I just left it okay. Everyone likes drunk Sungmin, yes? :3 I know the drama was really weak in this chapter. I ended up ending the chapter with more fluff TT TT I just can't stay away from it. But its just the beginning, so more drama on the way :P I know exactly how I want this story to go now, like each couple's story. So be prepared for a lot of chapter in the future :) I might even add background info on the side couples like Kangteuk and Hanchul if I feel like it, just to make this story as long as possible. I'm really gonna enjoy writing this ^^ I'm almost finished writing the next chapter, so expect it to come either Saturday night or Sunday morning :) It'll be mainly Eunhae with a little Kyumin in the beginning~ No question this time. Sorry >.< Please comment and subscribe!!! <3333333333333333
