Omma.Chanhee absentmindedly sips on his cup of camomile tea as he reads a book, sitting beside the sleeping Byunghun. His thick hardcover book with ‘Toto Chan’ as the title rested snugly on his lap while his right hand was holding onto his white porcelain mug. His left hand protectively tucked under his wife’s unmoving on that was resting on top of the white blanket.
The ward door opens and Chanhee looks up to see Hyeri with Chunsa in tow at her heels with the child’s left hand in Hyeri’s right one.
“Appa!” The girl immediately releases her grip on Hyeri’s hand and ran straight for her father’s lap before plopping her upper body on it heavily just as Chanhee quickly puts his tea filled mug down on top of the bedside cabinet used to store the patient’s items.
He removes the book from under Chunsa’s chest and places it beside his mug before lifting the girl up and sits her comfortably on his lap, lightly bouncing her up and down.
“Hey Chunsa, Hi Hyeri.” A weary smiles graces his lips.
The man was tired, having to spend most of his time at the hospital instead of returning home despite everyone’s constant advice that he should at least go home to catch some proper sleep. But the stubborn Chanhee refuses, only returning home for a few hours each day to bathe and ensure that the house is spick and span for Byunghun’s return when he’s discharged.
“You should go home and take a nap Chanhee ah...” Hyeri was worried. She was afraid that if Chanhee continues this way, he would be the one collapsing in the end, before Byunghun even wakes.
The redhead willfully shook his head, saying that he wanted to be by Byunghun’s side. What if Byunghun woke and Chanhee was not there beside him? His wife would be scared.
