I pull Song aside because I don’t want Yoon to overhear.
“I don’t know if this is helpful”, I tell him, “but the camera that captures what we’re seeing has probably been installed by the bomber himself. And I guess he’s controlling it since the view is zooming in and out. So maybe you can track a signal.”
Song glances at me:
“You still think we haven’t got a clue, don’t you?” but he isn’t angry. “Of course we have already thought of this since the immediate question was who the is still filming the site. We’ve got a specialist coming in any minute who hopefully will be able to find something.”
I’m relieved and it’s true that I have unconsciously dismissed them as incompetent already although that is certainly not the case.
“I’m sorry”, I say, meaning it.
“Don’t be”, Song answers and actually gives me a smile, “good thinking on your part and besides we haven’t exactly covered ourselves with glory here.” He covertly points at the General:
“I wish the army would off. They’re not helping really. Their explosives experts can’t hold a candle to Moon’s squad. They’re only specialized in mines. And the evacuation is pretty much complete. But the General has declared this a matter of national security so we’re stuck with them. It’s ridiculous though. I doubt that this has any political motive.”
I’ve thought about that, too. We’re certainly famous but not influential in a political sense. And the direct connection to us by putting a trigger into Taemin’s shoes makes it likely that the guy targets our fandom and us.
“Look”, Song continues, “I wanted to have you out of the way but meanwhile I guess I might need you and your guys to stick around. We don’t know enough about dancing and stuff and there is no telling what else he has planned.”
I’m glad not to be looked upon as an obstacle and that Song actually wants us to stay.
Kibum remembers the routine for the Deux song well enough although I’m not even sure if it was part of his role in Moonnight. It's entirely possible though that he only watched it once and unconsciously stored it away in his phenomenal memory. But looking at the screen I realize that both, Taemin and Kibum can’t go on for much longer. Taem has been dancing almost non-stop for two hours, Key not much less. When the track now stops again they both crouch down for a few seconds of recovery.
“What’s taking you so long?” Kibum coughs into his headset
Everyone looks startled by the direct address.
“There’s nobody in here anymore except for the bomb-squad and us”, he continues angrily, “what are we waiting for? We ...”
He breaks off when the next track begins. It hurts to watch him get up again staggering and pulling Taemin at the same time.
It’s “Clue and Note” ...
“!” Jjong curses, “how is this supposed to work with two people?”
The track doesn’t start at the beginning but somewhere in the middle of the chorus, the strutting part which is pretty much the most tiring routine of all our choreographies.
“He’s doing this on purpose”, Minho says desperately, “he’s trying to break them now.”
“How much longer do you think they can handle this?” Song asks me.
“They’re done”, Jjong says before I can answer, “this has to stop, NOW.”
As if on cue the bomb-squad leader returns to us.
“It’s no good”, he says, “we won’t be able to disarm the devices any time soon. I’ll call the Ministry of Defense and ask permission to abandon.”
“How long will that take?” I ask.
“An hour”, Moon says and seeing our desperate faces adds, “I know ...”
