'Struggles' of fatherhood

Trying: The 'sort of' Sequel

In which Joonmyun spends his first day as a dad trying to take care of Jongin
(re-read the beginning of chapter one if you don't understand where this is starting from)

~

For a while Joonmyun just sat there staring at the little boy who was sat on his sofa, watching his television, holding a Rilakkuma doll close to him. Staring at the boy, he found it incredibly difficult to believe that he was his son. He couldn't exactly go seek exact clarification from the boy's mother though, as soon as she had dumped the boy on him she was out the door. Joonmyun didn't want to leave Jongin alone, therefore he had to stay with him and just allow his mum to walk away just like that.

Watching the little boy did the full reality of the situation finally hit Joonmyun. He was a dad, he had actually had a one night stand with a woman and from there had a son. He was now responsible for his son when he had no idea how to even look after a child!

Joonmyun must have sat there internally panicking for quite a time, hearing the sound of a stomach grumbling he first thought it was his however when he heard it again he looked up to see Jongin holding his stomach. If there was ever a time to get up and finally start doing something as a father, making dinner would be the first step in this.

"Hungry?" he asked. At the sound of his voice, Jongin only stared at him tilting his head to the side
"Are you hungry?" Joonmyun repeated but Jongin did not answer him. Instead when his stomach grumbled again he held it and made a little face.

Sighing, Joonmyun got up and began making his way towards the kitchen. Almost instantly Jongin got up and began to follow him, stopping in the hallway to rummage through the bag his mum had left with him. Watching his bottom lip stick out when he couldn't find what he wanted he wandered into the kitchen and stopped behind Joonmyun, watching as he was looking around in the fridge for something to cook.

"What's wrong?" he asked sensing the boy behind him. Instead of answering however Jongin walked forward and pointed to the orange juice carton which was too far out of his reach.

Joonmyun couldn't understand why Jongin was not speaking to him. Everything he seemed to say to the boy, it looked like it went in on ear and out the other. Jongin always had a blank expression on him and looked as though he could never understand what Joonmyun was saying to him. Then it hit Joonmyun; the boy's mother was a student from Japan when she and Joonmyun had the one night stand with her. She had probably gone back to Japan and brought up Jongin in the country, therefore his understanding of Korean was probably very poor which would explain why he never seemed to say anything.

The problems just kept mounting for Joonmyun...

Instead of whining and groaning however he just took a deep breath in and poured some orange into a glass like Jongin had wanted previously and left the boy to walk back into the living room and continue to watch television.

Joonmyun had no idea what he could cook for dinner. He didn't know what foods Jongin liked or disliked, whether he was allergic to anything. Looking through the bag Jongin's mum had left, there was no list to answer Joonmyun's doubts and he couldn't go ask Jongin himself because it was very unlikely that the boy would answer him! In the end Joonmyun settled on noodles and some leftover kimchi he could easily make into a decent meal and hope for the best.

Jongin was just about big enough to reach the top of the table when he sat on the chair. He ate the noodles pretty quickly and even managed to make Joonmyun laugh when he let out a small burp at the end. At the sight of the kimchi however he pushed his plate away and shook his head, scrunching his face up. If Joonmyun was going to have to learn what Jongin liked and disliked this way, then so be it.

It was a good thing that Joonmyun never went and converted the spare bedroom in his place into an office like he had originally planned to. Proposing his idea to his friends previously, they all told him that whilst it was a good idea and convenient for him when he was home from work, they could quickly see him becoming a workaholic and locking himself in there all the time.

Though quite offended by their words, Joonmyun takes their advice and doesn't turn the room into an office. Getting the room ready for Jongin whilst the boy was in the bathroom brushing his teeth, Joonmyun thanked the high heavens that he still had a room to let the boy sleep in for the night.

Tucked in bed, Jongin looked at Joonmyun with a smile on his face. The first clear expression that he had given to Joonmyun the whole day, it surprised the latter just a bit, backing up towards the door
"Goodnight" he said and turned the light off before shutting the door, not completely to allow Jongin easy access to get out if he needed anything during the night.

Whilst Joonmyun was internally freaking out on where to go from here, Jongin was actually lying in bed with a smile on his face. So far his dad had yet to shout at him or even get the slightest bit moody with him after being dumped on him and having to unexpectedly cater for two. Despite all of this, he was still nice to the boy- though slightly awkward around him for the time being- and as first impressions went, Jongin was pretty satisfied with the man he knew to be his dad.

Yep

The two of them were going to get along just fine...

FINALLY!

The first chapter is up people!

So this won't really have a specific order to it. It'll just be, like the description said, a collection of bonus chapters and side stories to the previous fic. I think most of the inspiration will come from what I had written in previous chapters which I shall link to if needed.

Until the next chapter!!
