"Who are you?" Taeyeon's sharp voice rang out. "Where's Tiffany?" Her eyes held an accusatory glare as it burned holes into mine.

I sighed but didn't answer. Every moment of her being awake is like being through hell, time and time again. Sometimes I get brought into heaven, just to be pulled back to the same hell.

"Hey Tiffany, my mom told me that eyes are the windows to the soul." Taeyeon chirped as she laid out the picnic blanket. It was such a warm and sunny day.

I continued scrubbing the grime off the dinner plates and I felt her presence come closer. She grabbed my bicep as she violently turned me around to face her, the dishes breaking in the sink, forgotten.

"Where. Is. Tiffany?" She venomously asked me.

"Let's try! You look into mine and I'll look into yours. What do you see in my eyes?" Taeyeon said happily as she invaded my personal space.

I avoided her eyes for I knew that I would only see emptiness behind them. I've made that mistake before and spent the rest of the night crying in the bathroom. Cursing every higher being who decided for my fate to be this way. Our fate to be this way.

My heart was going wild. I was shaking with fear of what she could do, of what she was capable of doing. Surprisingly, no tears fell. I must have cried myself dry.

Rolling my eyes, I leaned towards her. "I see... a reflection of myself."

It's been three years. Three long, painful years. Taeyeon doesn't remember me. In my place, she sees an enemy.

Her grip gets unbearably tight. "I'm asking you, you . Don't you ing look away when I'm speaking to you. Why are you in my house? Why did you take her from me?!"

"Ugh! You're no fun. Okay, lemme tell you what I see." She took a moment and then cheesily said, "I see sincerity. I see a strong woman behind your eyes."

Not being able to stay quiet any longer I spoke up. "It's me," I quietly said, "It's me, Taeyeon."

"YOU AREN'T TIFFANY YOU PIECE OF ! TELL ME WHERE SHE IS!" Taeyeon pushed me against the sink and my body fell into a state of shock. My knees gave out and I slid to the floor.

I playfully pushed her. "Stop annoying me."

"Tiffany must be so scared..." Taeyeon started shaking and tears rolled down her cheeks without warning. Her hands in front of her as her eyes wildly switched between them.

And then she suddenly became tranquil, her eyes staring into the distance.

"Tiffany." Taeyeon said seriously. "If anything ever happens between us... just look into my eyes. Okay? They'll tell you the truth."

"Taeyeon..." I started.

Her head snapped to look at me. "Oh! What are you doing here, Tiffany?" She paused, her eyes widening as she stared down at me. "You're bleeding!" Then she disappeared from the kitchen.

"You're acting as if something bad is going to happen. Stop talking like that." I said.

It was then that I noticed blood all over the floor, it ran down my arms where Taeyeon's nails managed to break skin earlier.

When Taeyeon returned, she immediately knelt down next to me, applying pressure to the wounds.

"What happened, Tiffany?"

I let her treat me, still scared about the few moments earlier. "I... broke some dishes while washing them. They broke too hard and nicked me, it's fine."

She looked up back into my eyes. This time I stared back. Her eyes were loving and held a warmth that affected me greatly. I could tell that she didn't believe me.

"If you ever have a hard time, tell me." She mumbled as she resumed working on cleaning away the red stains.

I continued to gaze at her soft features. These are the moments I live for, being able to be normal together.

"You'll never know what might happen until it does."

Ever since the accident, Taeyeon was never the same.

Saving me from a fire wreckage, a piece of debris had landed more or less directly on her head, causing a nerve to be permanently damaged. Her memory resets every few minutes. The doctors told me she needed to be stabilized in an asylum. But that for me meant locking her away to rot the rest of her life in some padded cell. I wasn't willing to allow that.

When Taeyeon remembers, she only has vague memories of what she did when she was in an aggressive phase. She knows of her condition. She ran away before, cut herself, drank bleach, attempted to hang herself, but I had none of that. I finally got her to promise me to never try again. But it's hard.

Taeyeon reached out to wrap her arms around me and I buried my face into the crook of her neck.

"I'm sorry, Tiffany. I'm so sorry."

"The scariest part is when it happens and I look into your eyes, I can't see you." I told her.

She gripped me tighter. "I'm sorry."

If I think about it now, back then, it was like she knew.
