Chapter Nine

The Fakefriend

When the weekend was over and Luhan and I met up before school, I could tell he was nervous.

“What if he won’t forgive me?” Luhan asked me anxiously “I don’t have that many friends so will I be all alone during class?”

“Calm down, Luhan.” I said, kissing his forehead in an attempt to make him feel better “It will be fine. If Sehun truly cares for you, he will forgive you, and if he won’t, then he wasn’t a friend to have to begin with.”

“But what if he really doesn’t forgive me?” Luhan asked “I’ll be all alone!”

“If that happens, you’ll have to get new friends, nothing more than that.” I said, which seemed to make Luhan even more nervous. I sighed and stopped walking, pulling him in front of me and making him meet my eyes.

“Listen, I know you’re worried but there’s no need for worrying.” I told him “I’m positive he will forgive you. If I liked someone like Sehun apparently likes you, I couldn’t stay mad with them for any longer than a day. Sehun probably forgave you a long time ago.”

“Don’t make me remember that.” Luhan sighed, referring to Sehun’s feelings for him.

“I have to, because it’s your one true safe card.” I smiled “You can deal with the consequences of his feelings later, for now, just make sure the two of you can make up again.”

Luhan nodded and seemed to breath a bit more normally. A vision suddenly popped up in to my mind, one of Luhan and Sehun having a talk about what had happened and somehow, the talk ended up with Luhan in Sehun’s arms, the two of them hugging it out. I kind of got mad even thinking about it, only because I now knew of Sehun’s feelings for the guy I was-

“But just don’t get too cozy with Sehun, okay?” I said seriously which made Luhan look surprised “We don’t want to break our cover, right?” I laughed awkwardly, not wanting my words to come out like they’d had. In my ears, it had almost sounded like I was jealous, which I shouldn’t be when I was sure Luhan would never do anything crazy with Sehun. In Luhan’s eyes, Sehun was still just a friend, nothing more.

“Okay.” Luhan said, a smile on his face. “I promise I won’t make you too envious of me and Sehun, then.”

“Envious?” I asked “I’m the one you would be fine giving away your ity to, why should I be envious of you two?”

“No reason.” Luhan said, like he already knew that he had hit a sensitive spot.

“Hey! I’m not that kind of guy!”

tumblr_njznzcIzRK1tfzvjjo1_540.jpgtumblr_njznzcIzRK1tfzvjjo1_540.jpgtumblr_njznzcIzRK1tfzvjjo1_540.jpg

Once I’d dropped of Luhan even I felt the nervousness inside of me. I was sure that Luhan and Sehun would make up but at the same time, a part of me was worried about what Sehun would do when they did. Would he stay silent and nice as he had before or would this new development make him more aggressive in his need for Luhan?

Tao noticed my worry, even though I tried to hide it behind my questions about his weekend at his grandmother’s.

“Are you going to tell me what happened or not?” Tao asked, interrupting me in the middle of yet another pointless question which Tao didn’t even have the slightest interest in. “You’ve been acting strange all morning, what’s happened?”

“Strange?” I asked “How?”

“Well, you’ve been constantly eyeing your phone and your foot seems like it can’t be still for even a second. Then you have that nervous stare when you can’t focus on one point at a time and-“

“Okay, I get it.” I said, not needing to hear any more. “Luhan and Sehun had a fight this last Friday and there was just some things that came up with that.”

“Which was?” Tao prodded and I wondered if I would tell him or keep my mouth shut. I decided to speak, he’s my best friend after all and I couldn’t see Luhan minding it. Sehun, I could see not liking my choice but he never liked me from the start anyway.

“Well, first off, Luhan hit Sehun.” I began, earning a gasp from Tao “and then I also got to know that,  apparently, Sehun has been in love with Luhan for quite some time now.”

“What!?” Tao exclaimed, making some of our classmates turn our way to stare. “For how long?”

“A while.” I said “But apparently, Luhan had believed that Sehun’s feeling were long gone, which they definitely weren’t.”

“No wonder he’s been wanting you dead, then!” Tao exclaimed “he’s been forced to see this handsome guy slither between him and the one he love, whisking away the person  he’s been admiring.”

“When you put it that way…” I said, starting to chew on my lip.

“But Luhan doesn’t return his feelings, right?” Tao asked to which I shook my head.

“No, he doesn’t.” I confirmed and Tao only grinned back at me at first.

“Then can you just get on with it, then?” He asked, staring at me knowingly.

“With what?” I asked, not completely getting where he’s going.

“To stop denying to yourself that you kind of want Luhan to be your boyfriend, for real this time.” Tao said which made my heart skip a beat.

“Oh, shut it.” I half laughed “You need to stop pairing me up like that with Luhan. We’re just two guys having fun, helping each other out, okay?”

“Sure you are.” Tao said, rolling his eyes “Come on, Yixing. Give me a little more credit than that!”

“This is a sign for you to get laid, man.” I said, laughing “you need to stop imagining me and Luhan together and make out with some girl instead.”

“I’m not imagining you and Luhan together!” Tao exclaimed and then made a grossed out face “Ugh, but now I am. Screw you, Yixing. I didn’t want to have that image stuck inside my brain.”

“I do hope I’m on top, though?” I jokingly asked to which Tao pretended to be puking at, making me laugh even harder.  My laughing didn’t last for long, though, since my phone chimed, noting me to a new message. I quickly opened it up, eager to find that it was from Luhan.

It’s fine! He’s really sorry, all apologizing and kind. Everything is going to be alright~

I smiled, relieved. Even though I may from there on have to have my eyes on Sehun, I was still much more comfortable with the two of them being friends rather than strangers.

I told you so! So will he be joining us for lunch?

I quickly responded, getting an even quicker message back.

No, he won’t. He told me that he needed some time to get used to seeing me and you as an official couple.

I frowned down at the phone before I remembered that I had suggested Luhan to fool Sehun into believing Luhan and me really were in love with each other. I wrote a quick reply as the teachers entered the classroom, ready to start the first class.

So he fell for it, then?

Luhan’s answer was even shorter,

Definitely.

As the day ends without me having seen Sehun at all, I’m once again comfortably walking home with Luhan.

“I was wondering,” I said as we walked “tomorrow, would you like to put our practice in to action?”

Luhan looked at me at first, unsure of exactly what I was asking but when he did, he blushed. Up until now, I’ve been teaching Luhan how to properly make out since in the beginning, my only goal was for us to seem like a more real couple. Every other couple in school seemed to be kissing or making out at least a little and until now, me and Luhan had only been doing such things in the safety of our own homes.

“O-okay.” Luhan stammered, obviously nervous. “But am I really ready for such a public display?”

“Oh, I don’t know.” I said mischievously “maybe you need some more practice before tomorrow for me to be sure?”

At that, Luhan only smiled, as if it was what he had been hoping for me to say.

“My place is empty as always.” Luhan said and I couldn’t keep myself from feeling excited, wanting us to hurry so we could get home faster.

tumblr_njznzcIzRK1tfzvjjo1_540.jpgtumblr_njznzcIzRK1tfzvjjo1_540.jpgtumblr_njznzcIzRK1tfzvjjo1_540.jpg

When the next day came along, I had mentally prepared myself for what I was about to do that day. I even felt kind of nervous picking up Luhan that morning and once the two of us were close to school, I pulled him closer whisper in his ear.

“Ready?” I asked, wondering if Luhan was feeling even more nervous than I was.

“I don’t know.” Luhan confessed which made me smile, it was such a Luhan-thing to say it was almost comical. Uncertain in situations where he didn’t feel in control was something that I had noticed was repeating in Luhan’s behavior’s pattern.

“You’re going to be fine.” I told him as we turned the corner and entered through the school gate and on to school ground.

We had already decided where this  would go down, by his locker. Since the first year’s had their lockers at a less busy area than the second years, it felt natural to begin there since there for sure would be people, but not too many to begin with.

We had practiced exactly how we would act this out the day before in Luhan’s kitchen, needing some kind of locker to practice against and since the best ones where in the kitchen, we’d used that as our practicing ground.

As we walked through the halls, people barely glanced our way. They’d become used to our peaceful presence and I wondered what would happen after our little love show.  The best thing that I would benefit from this thing, in my opinion, would be the signals we were going to send out to all the guys out there who’d had their eyes on Luhan to step back. This would definitely break their dreams of ever getting near my Luhan.

Stop it brain, I told myself, needing to get the stupid “mine”/“my” egoism out of my system.

When we arrived at the locker, Luhan opened it up to get his books, just like we’d practiced. We were talking about something unimportant, just to make it seem more natural.

“I think we’ll be starting on the human anatomy today in biology.” Luhan said, his voice only slightly shaking as he delivered his first line, signaling me that he was ready.

“Really?” I asked, feeling the practiced lines kick in “But I thought you’d already covered that?”

“Oh?” Luhan asked “I think you must’ve confused it with something else.”

“That’s right!” I pretend to realize my mistake, pretty convincing if you’d ask me “I’m confusing it with the examination you gave me yesterday.” We both know it’s cheesy as hell, but at least our words manages to catch the attention of a couple of girls standing a few meters away from us.

“What are you saying, hyung?” Luhan asked and I’m pretty sure he’s blushing for real at using the term for the first time in public. Somehow, him calling me like that gets my blood pumping. “You can’t say things like that in school.” He talked in a hushed voice but I can tell that the girls obviously is listening in on our ‘private’ conversation.

“But I don’t want to hide like this anymore.” I said, trying to make my voice sound agonized. “I want us to be as open like every other couple at this school can be.”

“You know we can’t be like that, hyung.” Luhan said, my heart beating like crazy when he used the term again. “People would look at us weirdly.”

“You sure about that?” I asked, taking a step closer, pushing him up against the locker behind him, the door to his locker slamming shut in the motion. It made a loud sound, making more people look our way and I knew that this was it, I needed to nail it.

“I suggest we try it out” I said, using my lowest voice and staring in to Luhan’s eyes as intensely as I could.

“Now?” Luhan asked “here?”

“Why not?” I asked in return and before Luhan had time to answer, or rather more like him not having any more lines he could’ve said, I pushed my lips against his, softly at first but once I felt his hands finding it’s rest on my back, I continued on a little rougher.

I managed to make our lips move, giving both of us access to the other’s mouths, and as I slowly deepened our kiss, I could hear whispers around us, whispers of us, and I couldn’t help but smile.

Soon though, those whispers completely disappeared since I felt Luhan respond to my tongue, making them work together.

My hands found  their way to Luhan’s hair and my fingers began messing it up before I gave myself any time to think it trough. Maybe Luhan would’ve liked having nice hair for the day but I completely ruined his plans on that if he’d had any because the damage I made would be hard to fix without showering.

I pushed my body closer to his, forcing him up against the locker, almost making him stumble. I could feel him press up against me and for a moment, I forgot that we were doing this for show, that people were watching our every move. It was like we were the only people on earth and right then, I was okay with that.

Our kiss became a little more desperate, Luhan taking hold of my blazer to keep both of us steady as I held my hand next to his head on one of the lockers to keep our balance as we continue.

The clock started ringing, signaling the beginning of class in five minutes and Luhan and I broke away from each other, staring in to each other’s eyes as we both knew that we needed to leave.

“Good job.” I whispered to him in to his ear “All I wished was for that to be at home so we hadn’t needed to stop like this.”

Luhan smiled back at me and before he left, he pulled me in for yet another kiss, smirking as he left me there, staring after him as he waved goodbye. I can’t help but wonder if, from now on, whatever Luhan would do would make my heart race.

tumblr_njznzcIzRK1tfzvjjo1_540.jpgtumblr_njznzcIzRK1tfzvjjo1_540.jpgtumblr_njznzcIzRK1tfzvjjo1_540.jpg

“I hope you know you’re a celebrity on twitter.” Tao said to me as the teacher started the lesson, neither of us really caring about yet another war the teacher was preaching about.

“Why?” I asked to which Tao shoved his phone up in my face. I was faced with the scene from just a few minutes, but this time, from a different angel from what I had experienced it from. Above the picture was a small message with an emoji freaking out and the hashtag ‘LuXing’ right next to it. I recognize the girl who had posted the picture from the first group of girls who had noticed us that morning and I couldn’t help but smile.

The picture had caught what happened in the beginning of our little show, when I first had decided to kiss Luhan, tenderly, before sticking my tongue down his throat. It looked kind of sweet, the two of us close together like that. If I hadn’t known better, I would’ve bet my whole family on the two of us being in love. My stomach began fluttering.

“Why am I faced with such things this early in the morning?” Tao complained, sighing. I couldn’t contain myself from smiling.

“Says the guy that yesterday imagined me and Luhan together in bed.” I said to which Tao only rolled his eyes.

“Both of us know it was nothing like that!” Tao protested but I only laughed, enjoying the moment of an embarrassed Tao.

tumblr_njznzcIzRK1tfzvjjo1_540.jpgtumblr_njznzcIzRK1tfzvjjo1_540.jpgtumblr_njznzcIzRK1tfzvjjo1_540.jpg

Sehun didn’t join us for lunch that day either but I did manage to see him when I went to meet up with Luhan in the afternoon. He headed out the classroom first as soon as the door had opened and it seemed like he hadn’t even noticed my presence. Luhan, though, definitely did since it would’ve been hard to not notice a pair of arms around his waist, pushing him up against me as quickly as I saw him.

I made sure Sehun was out of eyesight before planting a big kiss on Luhan’s lips, wanting to spare the guy’s feelings as much as possible. Sure, I didn’t want his hands all over Luhan but that didn’t make me a heartless bastard.

“Hi…” Luhan said as soon as I’d released him from my lips, blushing as he heard a couple of girls giggling excitedly behind us.

“Hi.” I said, smiling like a dork. I hadn’t been planning on smiling like that but the whole ‘out in the open’-deal made me happy somehow, why I didn’t know. “How have you been?”

“Since lunch?” Luhan asked, tilting his head a little. I still held him in my arms, only this time, I was the one against the wall, right outside the classroom.  The position made Luhan nervous I noticed since there were even more people put in the corridors this time than it had been this morning.

“Yeah.” I confirmed. During lunch break, we’d been doing some more kissing but nothing like we’d done in the morning. This time, it had only been usual innocent kisses.

“Fine, I guess.” Luhan said “Sehun seems to be getting along well at least.”

“He is?” I asked, happy to hear it. I could tell that Sehun was someone who meant a great deal to Luhan so it was important for me that the two of them could solve their problems.

“Yes,” Luhan said “he even smiled.”

“Sehun?” I asked “smiling? No, he didn’t!” Luhan laughed.

“He used to smile a lot, he just don’t do it that much when you’re around.” Luhan said as the teacher walked out the classroom. She noticed us instantly and looked at us with un-approving eyes. It wasn’t because we were guys but more like the school didn’t really accept public displays of affection beyond friendships.

I slowly released Luhan’s waist and we stood up like normal people, getting a nod from the teacher before she walked away.

“He doesn’t smile because he hates me.” I said.

“No, he doesn’t.”  Luhan contradicted “He told me just this morning that he was fine with you as long as I was happy.”

“Well, isn’t that sweet of him?” I smiled, both of us heading down the hallway to get home.

“At least he’s trying.” Luhan said, grabbing hold of my hand out of habit, even though we weren’t even out of school ground, let alone the school itself. It made me all warm and fuzzy, having him taking the initiative like that, so naturally. He only continued speaking as if nothing special had happened but to me, it felt like I was dancing on stars.

tumblr_njznzcIzRK1tfzvjjo1_540.jpgtumblr_njznzcIzRK1tfzvjjo1_540.jpgtumblr_njznzcIzRK1tfzvjjo1_540.jpg

We had decided to head home to Luhan’s place that afternoon too since we always knew we could be all by our self there, something that was much needed.

I could see the building come up ahead and unconsciously picked up the speed. Though I was stopped abruptly as Luhan suddenly pulled me in to the alley fifty meters away from the gate.

“Wha-“ I began, but Luhan quickly hushed me, pushing me up against the cold brick wall with one hand while he sneaked a peak out around the corner.

“.” He swore and dove back in to the alley. He released the hand on my chest and looked up at me with serious eyes “We have to stay here for a while.”

“Why?” I asked, not understanding what had happened.

“Because my brother’s by the gate and we don’t want to meet him.” Luhan said and even though what he said sounded ridiculous, I didn’t laugh. Luhan looked like meeting his brother was something seriously bad, something you couldn’t take lightly, so the situation wasn’t laugh-worthy.

“And your brother is really bad, right?” I asked, collecting what Luhan’s impression of him and his stories about him had made me understand.

“Oh, I wouldn’t say that.” I got as an answer, only it was not Luhan who had spoken.

All the color drained from Luhan’s face in a second and he froze in place, petrified. I turned to look to where the voice had come from and found a guy looking at us with interest from the street. He was tall, definitely taller than me, and there was something strangely familiar with him.

It didn’t take a genius to figure it all out.

Even though Luhan and his brother had some striking similarities, they were still very different from each other. Luhan was sweet, like a flower or a ray of sunshine, while his brother was more like thunderclouds and motorcycles. You could definitely tell who took after which parent.

“Why are you guys in an alley anyway?” Luhan’s brother asked and with his words, he seemed to make Luhan come back to life again. Luhan, quick as lightening, moved, putting himself between me and his brother protectively, like he was a knight and he needed to protect me, the prince(ss), from the fire breathing dragon, played by his brother.

“What do you want?” Luhan asked, staring at his brother. I couldn’t tell what his face looked like since he had his back against me but I imagined them being fierce.

“I don’t think we’ve met.” His brother said, completely ignoring Luhan’s question like Luhan had ignored his. He put his hand forward to me “I’m Lujian.” He said and fired of a smile I knew had gotten at least a dozen people to fall for him.

Luhan quickly swatted his brother’s hand away, making it impossible for me to return the handshake.

“What’s your name?” Lujian asked, continue smiling the smile I then dubbed the player-smile.

“None of your business.” Luhan answered in response “Now, leave.”

“Are you maybe Yixing?” Lujian asked, continuing ignoring his little brother. “I’ve noticed you before.”

“How do you know his name!?” Luhan exclaimed and I didn’t know what to do. It felt strange, having someone talking to you but at the same time not saying anything to him in return. Luhan apparently wanted to do all of the talking on my part.

“Oh, please.” Lujian said, finally looking at his brother “Like I wouldn’t know the name of your plaything.”

“He’s not a plaything.” Luhan said and this time, he physically touched me, his hand grabbing hold of the front of my shirt from behind his back. “He’s my friend and you would do best to go home now, Lujian.”

“But I wanted to take my brother out for coffee!” Lujian exclaimed innocently and I got a feeling that he’d been waiting for me and Luhan to stroll by so he could meet me.

“Does going with you to get coffee get you to leave Yixing alone?” Luhan asked, his voice still filled with poison.

“For today, maybe.” Lujian said which seemed to satisfy Luhan. He turned to me and the tenderness in his body returned.

“I’m sorry, but can we hang out tomorrow instead?” He asked, his eyes just like I’d remembered them.

“Sure, no problem.” I said, still a little confused as to what was happening.

“Did you know you have a wonderful voice?” Lujian asked me “You should be singing. I could teach you the basics if you’d like. You could come over some day and-“

“No.” Luhan said and grabbed hold of his brother’s jacket, dragging him away from me.

“I’ll see you later.” Luhan said apologetically, like he thought he was being rude by leaving me like this. Sure, he may have been, but I could tell that he was in some kind of weird way trying to do something good for me. Exactly how that worked out, though, I had no idea.

“Yes we will see you later!” Lujian said back to me, smiling the player-smile.

“No, you won’t.” Luhan said angrily.

“Bye…?” I said, waving goodbye to the two of them. That was… kind of strange, I thought to myself before heading home instead, wondering what exactly had happened.

Chapter 20: Hello ! This is the sweetest and the hottest fic I've read since a while. Like, how can you write so perfectly ? this is long but I've never been bored, the feelings are well described but it's not too cheesy, and that taohun in the background... LayHan is awesome alone but with some TaoHun, it's perfect.
Where did you get that idea from ? A guy wants to have a fake boyfriend to avoid stalkers ? Really ? But it was such a great story so I don't mind !
Thank you for this masterpiece <3

Chapter 20: First of all: Awwmygod, thanks for mentioning me x3
I actually read this on my birthday, right after I woke up~ c:
Lujian was kind of a good guy, as expected. Still, my favourite sentence was Luhan's doubtful: 'How... Sweet?' xD
I think it's understandable that he has to debate with himself whether to give him a second chance or not.
(Considering that he gave in so quickly proves that Lulu's a good guy as well. Must run in the family.)

It was so cavities-inducingly sweet to read how much Lay is into any and everything about Luhan c:
That's some pure adoration there~
This was such a nice story where everything was pictured in a really relatable way~
I enjoyed reading about Lay's friendship to Tao, about Lay's self-discovery, his approaching to foreign territory...
Thanks for sharing this storyyy~ x3
I'll watch out for your other works~
