Chapter 9
It's Okay, It's LoveI didn’t know what went into Sehun’s head, but I wouldn’t complain because he kinda saved me from Jongin’s grip. The scene where the three of us were so worked up over these Valentine’s Day gifts didn’t go unnoticed by the students, of course, but I couldn’t care less about what they thought. I was more occupied by the fact that I just talked back to Jongin. Where did I get that courage from? And my answer made me sound like I was jealous or something. Ugh, I groaned to myself. I should just stop thinking about Jongin (and everything that’s related to him) altogether.

I didn’t feel like locking myself up at the library so off I went for my long awaited lunch break. I was on my way to the canteen, together with my classmates, when I spotted a very unusual sight – Joonmyeon and his group of friends was having lunch. At the canteen. Like seriously.
The moment I realised that I’d be having lunch together with Joonmyeon and the gang (read: Jongin), I grew nervous. I still couldn’t get yesterday’s incident out of my mind. Will Jongin be mad at me or something? I was so tempted to pull my hair back in frustration, but I decided not to and went for a seat where my back was facing them. Let’s just pretend that I didn’t see anything. I quickly scanned the food stalls and went for the Western one where the queue was the shortest.
The food there wasn’t bad, but half of the school population here thought that eating hamburgers and fries equals to ugly. Well, as much as unhealthy diet affects one’s outer appearance, isn’t what’s inside matters most? Okay, I was rambling. Never mind.
In no time, I had reached the stall and was already reading off the menu. What should I get today?
“I thought most girls don’t eat junk food.” A deep voice suddenly greeted me.
I quickly turned around to see who the culprit was only to be even more surprised. Sehun was right there next to me.
“Well, I’m not most girls.” I replied, eyes back to the menu.
Upon realising how cocky I must have sounded, I quickly added, “Besides, they serve pretty nice waffles here.”
Sehun hummed but didn’t say anything. Oh no, did I say something wrong? He must have thought I was one conceited girl. To confirm my thoughts, I tried to sneak a peek at him.
“I see you have a sweet tooth then.” He said, looking straight at me.
I had never really stared into a guy’s eyes before and to finally have one with none other than the Oh Sehun, there was no way I wouldn’t turn a shade brighter. Fortunately, the stall owner brought me back to reality.
“What would you want to order, my dear?” The old lady asked sweetly.
“Oh right. C-can I have one waffle with Cookies ‘n Cream ice cream, please?” I replied.
“Sure. And you, young man?”
“I’ll have the same one as hers. Thank you.” Sehun politely said.
“Okay then. I’ll be right back.” The old stall owner chirped. She was a little too hyper for someone her age but other than her quirky side, she was one lovely lady.
I didn’t go to this stall very often but every time I was here, she would spend some time chatting with me. I found out that she had a small dessert shop down town when she invited me to visit her during the weekends. I felt bad that till now I couldn’t actually do so.
For a moment, I almost forgot that I had a company. When I glanced at Sehun, he was busy looking at the old lady who still preparing for our food. I didn’t know what to do or if I was supposed to say anything. It felt like forever to wait for our orders to come but finally they were done.
“Here’s your order, young man.”
Sehun swiftly took it from the old lady’s wrinkled hands.
“And this would be yours, my dear.”
Wait, she actually gave strawberries and chocolate sauce but I didn’t order that. I thought she must have mistaken it.
“But I didn’t ask for these toppings.” I enquired.
“I know you like strawberries so I add them in. Don’t worry. It’s on me. You’re my favourite student, after all.” She giggled.
“Ah, thank you.”I curtly nodded.
“Is this fine young man here your friend? Because I’ve never seen you bringing your friend around.” The old lady asked.
I tensed. What should I say? Am I friends with Sehun? But we didn’t actually know each other. We didn’t even go to the same class. But we kinda talked to each other so obviously we were not strangers. I tried to look at Sehun to see if he was just as uncomfortable as I was by the question but to my surprise, he was looking intently at me as if he too was waiting for my answer.
I gulped.
“W-we know each other.” I finally said. That was the best answer I could think of. I hope Sehun wasn’t offended or anything.
“That’s good to hear. Since you’re her friend, I’ll give you free chocolate sauce too. Come here, young man.”
I was about to pay for my food when Sehun stopped me and paid for our orders. I was about to object but Sehun cut me off.
“You got me free chocolate sauce so it’s only right if I pay for it.” He shrugged.
“But you don’t have to.”
“Yes, I don’t have to but I want to.” He said one last time while looking straight at me.
I was too lost at words that I didn’t realise Sehun already put my food on his tray and was actually already walking back to our respective seats.
“W-wait. I can carry that myself. You don’t have to, Sehun.”
“I don’t usually repeat myself, Haneul, but I guess I have to when I’m with you." He sighed.
"Yes, I don’t have to but I want to.” He said and proceeded towards where my table was.
“You’re the first girl who said no to me. Do you know that?” Sehun asked with a small smile at the end of his lips.
I didn’t know how to take that statement so I chose to be quiet instead. Sehun and his longs legs didn’t make it any easier either. I had a hard time catching up with him.
The sight of me and Sehun walking back together didn’t quite get everybody’s attention, but now that Sehun was actually placing my food on the table, everybody was holding their breaths.
“You’re sitting here, right?”
I nodded, not trusting myself to form an audible answer.
“I’ll get going now.” Sehun said, finally heading back to his table.
I didn’t know what took me over, but I grabbed his elbow and muttered a soft thank you.
He smiled and shook his head, resuming his walk towards his own table.
My classmates didn’t quit staring so I cleared my throat.
“Your noodle is getting cold, Ahreum.” I lied to the girl next to me.

“I see you’ve gained yourself a friend.” Joonmyeon teased his approaching friend.
Sehun just shrugged and plopped himself down.
“Am I seeing things or Sehun is actually smiling?” Baekhyun nudged the boy next to him, pretended to be concerned.
Sehun kept his head down and played with his waffle. He was smiling to himself like a giddy boy.
The thing about Sehun was that he befriended none of the people in the school. Well, obviously, except for those eleven boys who were currently sitting with him.
“Woah, I didn’t know this day would come!” Chanyeol exclaimed.
“Behold, all you people, the Ice Prince is finally melting!” Baekhyun dramatically announced to which everybody laughed at.
They all had a good laugh, except for one boy who had witnessed the whole exchange between Sehun and Haneul.
Kim Jongin didn’t like it one bit. He saw Haneul first. He had eyes on the girl first.
“I don’t know what you’re up to, Sehun, but this is gonna be interesting.”Jongdae innocently voiced out his opinion.
Oh, if only Jongdae knew how true his thought was.
Happy Valentine's Day, people! ♡
Who misses this guy here?
