Chapter 16
It's Okay, It's LoveTo say that I was totally surprised by what happened for the past 48 hours was a total understatement.
Yes, Kim Jongin did say that he liked me but (yes, there’s a but) he had been avoiding me ever since I said I might be liking him back. Don’t ask me why.
To say the very least, our friendship went downhill and things turned a little uncomfortable between us. If I remembered correctly, we didn’t even bother to eat lunch anymore. I saw him walked away (to his room probably) while I decided to clear my mind off by busying myself with some Student Council stuffs.
But if there was one thing that made me a little happy was the scene where Jongin ignored Krystal during the whole bus ride. Okay, we’re on the same boat, Krystal.
Unlike the last bus ride, I didn’t sit with Sehun. The guy actually offered me but my mood was too sour I didn’t want him to be infected by it. So I sat with my female teacher. Great choice, because she was such a heavy sleeper that she almost drooled on my shoulder. Argh! Way to brighten my day.
Okay, enough of me ranting. It was a typical Monday afternoon, a couple of days since we were back from Suncheon. It would have been better if I didn’t spot Jongin who deliberately took a detour once he saw me exited the classroom he was heading for. To make the matter worse, we kinda bumped into each other in the hallway but he pretended as if I wasn’t there.
“You look unhappy.”
“Oh, goodness. You scared me.” I stated dramatically as I clutched the textbooks I just took out form my locker over my chest.
“Sorry about that. I didn’t mean to.” Sehun shrugged as he casually leaned on a locker a little further from mine.
I scoffed and closed my locker before walking away from him. It was my lunch break but I didn’t feel like eating. Blame Jongin and his weird behaviour.
“Hey! Not so fast.” Sehun said as he grabbed my left arm.
I feigned a glare but he didn’t budge.
“Let’s grab something first. My treat.” He smiled and dragged me to the cafeteria.
— ✿ —
Jongin was eating as per usual together with his friends when two students he was too familiar with entered the cafeteria.
A big goofy smile was plastered on Sehun’s face while Haneul, the girl he was dragging by her arm, was scowling – clearly unhappy at what was being done to her.
Jongin was a little too far to hear what they were talking about but the expressions on Sehun’s face didn’t make him happy. He stopped whatever he was doing and put his eagle’s eyes to good use.
Haneul’s scowl was so deep but it didn’t stop Sehun from buying drinks for her. Just what are you up to, Oh Sehun? She obviously didn’t want you to buy those things for her. Now go away, you! Those were some of the thoughts which crossed Jongin’s head but nothing happened in reality. The said guy was still sitting on his chair, eyes fixed on the pair at the drink stall while his head was probably giving off hot steam – if only that was possible.
— ✿ —
“Which part of ‘I’m not hungry’ did you not understand?” I asked Sehun, not bothering to hide the annoyance in me.
“Oh, I understand every single part of it. Very well, actually.” He shrugged.
“Then what am I even doing here!?” I glared at him and stood up from the green grass we were currently sitting on.
“I need a company. You can’t possibly leave a handsome guy like me alone. I’ll be dead once the girls find out.” He said dramatically and pulled me down, preventing me from escaping.
“You’re impossible.” I rolled my eyes and accepted my defeat.
And just like that my friendship with Sehun started to unfold. Who would even think a girl like me would befriend a guy like him? But here we were: accompanying each other during lunch breaks, shoulder-bumping each other at the hallways or simply blurting nonsensical yet honest opinions until the other one couldn’t help but to erupt in laughter.
Things were going pretty great, considering it was exams preparation period yet I hadn’t gone all stressed up and everything. Sehun and I spent so much time together that my presence was no longer intruding his special group of friends’ privacy. I could even name Sehun’s friends (all eleven of them) just by their cough/laughter/footsteps–yes, including Jongin.
“Oh, come on. I’ve repeated myself for like five times and you still don’t get it. Is your head made of stone?” I asked before knocking Sehun’s forehead.
“Ouch! That hurts! You’re so mean! No more bubble tea for you.” He whined and snatched my bubble tea away from me.
We were at the school’s backyard, studying for our upcoming exams. There were unused benches behind the school’s lab and it was pretty deserted so Sehun suggested for us to study together there. And that was exactly what we had been doing every day after school had ended for the past one week.
“Okay, fine. I’ll explain to you again.” I sighed and grabbed his notebook.
The sun was about to set when we decided to pack and call it a day. Once everything was neatly stuffed into our bags, we headed for the gate. Not many people were around but I could spot a few students who stayed back to study just like Sehun and I.
“Are you sure you don’t want me to drop you off at your place?”
“Nah, that’s alright. Besides, Maserati isn’t really my type.” I smirked.
Sehun just laughed at me.
“If we weren’t friends, I would have pushed you off a building.”
“Well, I’m honoured.” I said and bowed at my royal highness friend who again only laughed at me.
“You’re impossible.” He rolled his eyes.
“Hey! That’s my line!” I blurted out and punched his shoulder lightly.
“Whatever. Okay then, I’ll get going first. See you tomorrow!”
I waved goodbye at Sehun and went to put some of my books in my locker. Now that I had no companion, everything felt a little creepy. I should’ve asked Sehun to wait for me. Argh!
I quickly dumped a couple of thick books into my locker and zipped my bag. I was about to close my locker and zoom off but somebody else did just that for me. No, the person actually slammed my locker I almost had a heart attack.
“You.” She spoke very calmly yet sternly.
The hairs on my back stood. What’s happening?
I remained silent. Krystal searched for my eyes. She looked very very determined and it didn’t help that she gave off the cold aura to begin with. She looked ten times more intimidating now.
“I want you to stay away from Kai.” She started.
Wait, what?
“Don’t make yourself look stupid by thinking to go after him. You should know where you stand.” She told me as she examined her pretty nails.
I didn’t even get to say anything and Krystal was already out of my sight. My chest tightened and I was so angry. At Krystal. At myself. How could I let her look down on me like that? And how could I actually remain silent when I knew I should’ve stood up for myself? And what Jongin had to do with all this? Wait, no, what I had to do with everything?
Hello! Sorry that I've been MIA. Here's an update for y'all. I hope you'll like it. Stay tuned for duoble updates tomorrow!
Btw, give this a try. I cracked up just by listening to Sehun's nonsense. Enjoy!
Prince Sehun at your service.
