xxii. Midnight Stranger

Feeling a slight satisfaction, Jung Soojung attempts to flutter opened her heavy lids, and a comforting silence silently welcomes her. She still can hear how the train’s machine hisses though, but rather than that, from her seat the cabin seems empty. Finally she stretches her arms, although the short nap is satisfying, sleeping in sitting position isn’t really a smart decision. But her left arm struck at something—a person, beside her. Soojung doesn’t remember someone occupies the empty seat beside her, as she quickly pulls back her arm and straightens her pose. She checks every material disguise that helps her blended as normal citizen, not the trend Super-idol Krystal.

Her shawl is still intact so is her beanie, and the dorky glasses also still placed neatly at where it should be. She breathes in relieved.

“Running away from something?”

Soojung jolts in shock like once she got electrocuted at filming spot, and slowly turns her head to the right in horror.

A guy that looks like same aged as hers although she knows he must be older than her throws his handsome smile like a Cheshire cat. He wears a loose white t-shirt under his brown coat, his eyes crinkle in friendly manner as the smile never leaves his child-alike face.

Soojung curses inwardly. Who is he?! Does he recognize her?! He must be someone! Why did he choose to sit here when there are plenty vacant seats here! Wait, is he some creepy stalker? A psychotic killer? Oh my God, what should I do?!

“You looked peaceful when you slept, now you look so mad when you are awake.” He laughs at her embarrassment because he can read easily her expression. “A girl should not go alone in the midnight.”

Soojung lowers her head, doesn’t really know how to choose a right feeling toward him. He looks harmless, although many say looks can be deceiving.
