Growing Up
Forever Young“It’s time to grow up, Yugyeom. High school is going to end soon. You’ll be stepping into the real world. You now need to think about your future and find a good career like your brothers did. You know that, right?”
Those words kept running through Yugyeom’s head over and over again as he laid down for bed. Tonight was the night his parents decided to have the talk to him about his future. They told him he had to start thinking like an adult, since his eighteenth birthday was coming up. It’s time to think about a job and college. Everyone had to grow up, even him.
Yugyeom didn’t like that. The thought of being an adult and all the responsibilities that with with it seriously scared him. He didn’t want to leave the comfort of his home ever. He wanted to be forever young. If only time could stop and he wouldn’t have to grow older.
“Yugyeom, are you okay?” a voice asked as his older brother, Sunggyu, walked in.
Yugyeom’s the youngest of three. His oldest brother, Sunggyu, is a doctor at their neighborhood hospital. Myungsoo, the middle child, is now an actor for SBS. His brothers still lived at home, wanting to watch over their little brother. Myungsoo’s twenty two and Sunggyu’s twenty five, so there’s quite a big age difference between them.
“Hyung,” Yugyeom said, sitting up and rubbing his eyes. “When did you get home?”
“Just now,” Sunggyu said with a smile, sitting down on the bed next to his brother. “So tell me, what’s up?”
“I’ve just been thinking alot,” Yugyeom said, letting out a deep sigh.
“Thinking about what?” Sunggyu asked, smiling softly at the younger boy.
“Just the future,” Yugyeom stated. “It’s scary to think about, growing up. I don’t even know what I want to do with my life after high school. It’s scary knowing I’m a senior.”
“There’s a whole world of possibilities out there for you, Gyeomie,” Sunggyu told him. “Just do what your heart tells you go do. Do what you’ve always wanted to do.”
“Have you always wanted to be a doctor, hyung?” Yugyeom asked, tilting his head to the side in curiosity at his older brother.
“I have always wanted to be a doctor, yes, because I love helping people,” Sunggyu replied. “And we both know Myunggie has always wanted be an actor. We both followed our dreams and achieved the goals that we had set.”
“But I don’t know what my dream is,” Yugyeom said, frowning.
“You’ll find it soon, buddy. I know you will,” Sunggyu said with a smile. “Now how about you get some sleep.”
...
“Do I have to take him to school this morning?” a voice whined as Yugyeom came down the stairs to eat breakfast. “I already have a very tight schedule.”
Yugyeom walked into the kitchen and found his brother, Myungsoo, on the phone. By the looks of it, everyone must have already left for work. This meant Myungsoo would have to take the younger boy to school. Like always. Of course this was the case.
“Morning, hyung,” Yugyeom greeted, opening the fridge to take out the milk.
“Umma! I have to be on set in an hour! I’ll be late!” Myungsoo cried, ignoring his brother’s greeting.
