“Imo!” Keia screamed as she ran toward Jihyo’s sister. Keia was giggling, feeling good. Jihyo stayed inside the house, but peeked to the doorway to see the two. She resumed sorting the grocery they had just got. Her sister entered, carrying Keia in her arms.
“Eonni, what happened?” She asked, shocking Jihyo. Jihyo looked up, surprised that something might be up. She then saw that her sister meant the cuts and bruises on Keia’s knees.
“Oh, she went cycling with Gary oppa and fell.” Jihyo said, laughing. Keia reached out for her mom and Jihyo took her, but put her down. Keia tugged on her shirt. Jihyo looked at her and patted her head. “You were waiting for imo. She’s here now, go and play with her.” Jihyo said. Jihyo’s sister scooped Keia up and carried Keia to the living room.
“You were waiting for me?” She asked Keia. The two were left to play in Keia’s room while Jihyo went to do their laundry before joining them. “I heard you slept over at Kwangsoo samchon’s place.” She said and Keia nodded, a shy grin on her face. “Why do you never sleepover with imo, samchon, and halmi and habi?” She asked again. Keia’s grin grew wider. Jihyo came in and joined them, oblivious to the conversation that was going on.
“Eomma…” Keia said, acting shy and crawling onto Jihyo’s lap. Jihyo was still confused and just held Keia’s legs.
“Do you only hangout with celebrities now? Do you not have time for your favorite imo?” Jihyo’s sister asked, and Jihyo finally caught up with the conversation. She laughed at the conversation they were having.
“She doesn’t even know what we do for a living.” Jihyo said, laughing. “Do you know?” She turned to look at her daughter. Keia nodded.
“Appa makes songs and sings a lot really fast. Eomma reads longs sentences and stand in front of bright lights and take pictures. Eomma and appa also play a lot of running games.” Keia said, making Jihyo and her sister laugh. “But appa and eomma work a lot, so I miss them a lot sometimes.” She said, breaking Jihyo’s heart.
“Eonni must feel really bad right now.” Jihyo’s sister said, teasing her. She was chuckling while looking at Jihyo, receiving a soft kick from Jihyo. The two laughed, because they knew each other’s feelings quite well. “But eomma’s here now with you. She cleared her schedule for you a lot too, you know. Appa as well.” Jihyo’s sister tried to change how Keia saw the whole situation. Keia nodded.
“But appa is not.” Keia responded, and Jihyo took a deep breath.
“Eonni and hyungbo should arrange a week off together.” Jihyo’s sister said, and Jihyo didn’t respond, but she was thinking about clearing her schedule when Gary has his cleared too for a while. Her sister then thought it was a good time to change the topic. “Jja. Who’s hungry? Let’s go and make dinner.” She said and Keia nodded, climbing down Jihyo’s lap.
Jihyo took out the ingredients for their lunch and set them out on their countertop. Keia washed her hands and her imo helped her wear her apron and tying her hair back.
“Can we trust eomma’s cooking, Keia?” Jihyo’s sister asked. Jihyo rolled her eyes while letting out a small laugh. Keia nodded seriously, having eaten Jihyo’s cooking a lot of times before. “You poor child.” She said, joking.
“Ya! What are you teaching my child!” Jihyo laughed, lightly hitting her sister. Her sister just laughed in response. She handed Keia a pile of green onions and Keia washed them diligently. Her aunt was behind, making sure that she washed them clean. Once they were clean, Jihyo cut them along with the other ingredients and set the stove.
“Eomma, I wanna have white kimchi.” Keia said, looking at Jihyo who was conversing with her sister. Jihyo nodded.
“Take it out of the fridge.” She said, trying to teach Keia. Keia walked to the fridge and reached for the handle. She looked at the different containers of side dishes and looked for the white kimchi. “Igeoji?” She said, pointing at one of the containers.
“Wa.” Jihyo said, her eyes grew wider. Exaggerated expressions made Keia grin with pride. “Jalhae.” She added, holding her two thumbs up with a proud, motherly smile. Jihyo’s sister laughed at Keia’s words. Keia then looked back at the container, then at her mom. Jihyo laughed, knowing that Keia couldn’t take the container out. “Eo, eo. Eomma dowajulkke.” Jihyo said, taking the container out. She told Keia to ask for her imo’s help to take some out.
“Give me a hug first.” Jihyo’s sister said, making Jihyo laugh. Keia gave her a hug as Jihyo continued to watch their interaction. Jihyo’s sister then took a little amount of kimchi out. So little that she knew it wouldn’t be enough. Keia whined, looking at her. She enjoyed teasing her niece. “Arasseo, imo will give you more.” She said in between laughter. “Imo ppoppo.” She said. Keia whined and looked at Jihyo. Jihyo smiled and bobbed her head up and down, signaling her to do it.
“Eomma… Imo nappa.” Keia said, clinging onto her mom. Jihyo chuckled, shaking her leg so that Keia moved. Keia smiled at her mom and reached upwards, asking her mom to lift her up. Jihyo held Keia’s hands and laughed, shaking Keia more. “Eomma.” She said, giggling.
“Ya…” Jihyo’s sister said. “Why is it so hard to get your kiss?” Jihyo laughed at how hard Keia made it.
“Baek kimchi mogeullae?” Jihyo asked Keia. Keia nodded. “Gerom imo ppoppo jwo.” Jihyo said, looking at Keia who was still attached to her. Keia shook her head.
“Eommahae.” Keia said quietly, giggling. Jihyo laughed at her and tried to let go of Keia. “Aniya… Aniya… Shirheo.” Keia said. So instead, Jihyo lifted her and got her closer to her sister. Keia looked away, giggling. “Shirheo…” She said again
