Baekhyun watches pathetically as Chanyeol repeatedly bangs his head on the counter desk in front of him, being mindful not to smash his head onto the keyboard of his computer. The secretary is sitting back with his thick jacket still on, arms crossed, and feet planted on the floor so he doesn’t accidentally slide out of his chair. He hates to admit it’s happened one too many times before, especially in the cold of winter.   The phone suddenly rings and he quickly turns to pick up the phone and push the button where the light is blinking. “Samsung Medical Center ER. How may I help you?”   “Oh. This isn’t Seoul ER?”   Baekhyun sighs. “No, sir. This is Samsung Medical Center Emergency Room.”   It takes another minute to explain the differences between the facilities before he hangs up, spinning back around to see his best friend still slamming his head onto the desk. He winces at a particularly loud smack! Chanyeol stops moving. “Uh,” Baekhyun mutters out, looking over to see Yunho looking just as concerned as he was, “It’s going to be okay, Chanyeol.”   “I don’t want to feel the need to scan your head,” Yunho comments next, watching as Chanyeol relaxes completely even as Jongin and Minseok come back into the ER with a new patient. He raises his brows at them. “Again?”   “We never leave,” Jongin groans out, thankful that this patient is quiet.   “I can’t believe I asked him when the wedding is,” Chanyeol mumbles in despair, refusing to lift his head when he has work to do, “Baekhyun. Why did I do that?”   “Honestly, you’re kind of an idiot in the mornings.”   “But Baekhyun!” Chanyeol whines, lifting his head up to give him sad, puppy dog eyes, “I ruined my chances of ever asking him out!”   “Huh?” Minseok asks as he fills out an EMS form of their patient’s information for them, “Asking who out?”   “Jongdae the new night nurse,” Baekhyun helpfully supplies, shifting his gaze to the handsome EMT and just admiring the man’s work beanie in combination with his immaculate eyebrows and gorgeous ear piercings. “I didn’t know my best friend finally fell into the trap that is Kim Jongdae.”   “You’re the one who kept pestering me to ask him out!”   “Because you need to get a life. I’m worried for your health.”   “Excuse you, I’m a nurse. I know when I’m healthy and when I’m not.”   “I never knew you could be so caring,” Minseok jokes, lifting his eyes up and turning to look at the secretary with a playful smile on his face, “You usually make fun of this giant lug whenever you can.”   “There’s only so much you can see from me at work,” Baekhyun jests back, and it has Chanyeol groaning in disapproval.   “Are you guys seriously trying to flirt when I’m in a mid-life crisis because I ‘accidentally assumed’ Jongdae and I are getting married in the near future!”   “What?” Baekhyun and Minseok question at the same time, looking away from each other to look down at the man between them, “We’re not flirting.”   Chanyeol frowns at them, hardly believing their statement. “Right.”   “You know,” Baekhyun comments after a few minutes of watching Minseok cutely wave the piece of paper back and forth on Chanyeol’s head to get his attention, “With your wording previously, I’d assume you’re still planning on marrying Jongdae in the future.”   Chanyeol whips his head around, hands immediately leaving the keyboard to face his friend and pout at him completely. “Not if I ruined my chances of ever dating him!” And then he goes back to hitting his head on his desk. “Baekhyun!” he whines again, causing the other to look at a bored Yunho just staring at their daily soap opera episode.   “Can you scan his head?”   Yunho quirks his lips to the side. “That’s a slight abuse of power and a lot of radiation.” He winces at a particularly loud smack! “Maybe I can call in a favor.”       “Are you sure about this?” Boa questions genuinely, looking to the four men in front of her, “When we hire new nurses, they’re going to start on the night shift like Jongdae here. If you want, I can schedule all of you off for about two weeks to a month to get yourselves used to the day shift.”   “Yeah, I think we’re sure,” Lu Han answers for all of them, looking to each of his coworkers before looking back to her, “But why the sudden change?”   Boa shrugs nonchalantly as she gives Yifan a brief look and a secretive smile. “A little birdy told me one of you might want to go back to get your master’s degree and possibly go further for nurse practitioner or even medical school. It’ll simply be easier to switch to days and cut down your shifts so you won’t need to be awake twenty-four hours
