“So, explain this to me.”
Chanyeol looks over from where he’s putting in never-ending vital signs and answering calls that his best friend is clearly not answering in favor of talking to him. “Yes?” he questions back before looking back to his computer. He hears Baekhyun huff behind him, no doubt turning to face him completely and mess with the cup of paperclips situated next to him on his desk.
“You came in at exactly 6:34 AM this morning.”
A small smile makes its way onto Chanyeol’s face at the memory. “Yes.”
“You noticed everybody was practically half-dead, especially Lu Han because the poor man is sick, and decided to go up to Jongdae first because you’re already falling in love with him and he was the one who seemed the most alert at the time.”
Chanyeol blushes at the very accurate recap, considering when he falls for someone, he falls hard. Baekhyun was no exception either at the time. “I guess,” he tries to say nonchalantly.
“And then he asked you out in a rapid manner to which your sluggish morning brain could not comprehend until he literally almost had to spell it out for you.”
“What are you trying to say?” Chanyeol suddenly whines, slouching more in his chair to avoid his best friend’s insistent stare to the back of his head.
“And you obviously said yes.”
“Baekhyun,” he whines some more, “What?”
“He had to ask you out,” Baekhyun emphasizes, “We need to plan your date accordingly to where you impress but don’t stress.” He hums in thought. “Obviously they talked about it last night for Jongdae to gather up that courage though. Or something happened last night.”
Chanyeol frowns, turning to stare at his friend. “What are you talking about?”
Baekhyun shrugs. “Lu Hannie and Kris or Kevin or whatever he wants to be called. I think Tao mentioned it too. He said they would all kick your if you ruin your date and make Jongdae cry… or something like that.”
“I wouldn’t make Jongdae cry,” Chanyeol says resolutely, giving his friend a disapproving look. “Have I ever made you cry?”
“I would hope not,” Minseok suddenly says, showing up in casual clothes that consisted of skinny jeans slightly ripped, a comfy sweater, and a thick fashionable overcoat on top of all that with sunglasses and earrings in place. Or as casual as Kim Minseok can get on his good days. “I’d be disappointed if you made another cry.”
“Whoa.” Baekhyun and Chanyeol comment at the same time eyeing the man up and down as he walks towards them and completely ignoring his comment.
Minseok ignores their comment to look around, both men finally seeing the younger girl standing behind him wearing a facemask. “Who are the doctors today?” he asks, looking to see both doctors out of the station at this time, probably checking up on their patients. The girl is looking around curiously.
“You,” Baekhyun manages to get out, swallowing the lump in his throat before shifting his gaze back to the EMT who’s supposed to be off today. “You’re… Uh… S’up?”
Minseok laughs at his lack of actual complete sentences, turning back to him and taking his sunglasses off his face. There are sparkles in his eyes and Chanyeol thinks that’s probably why Minseok and Lu Han are best friends. “My younger sister is sick. We’ve basically tried everything over the counter, so I’m seeing if I could just get a prescription for something from one of the doctors.”
“And you dress like that?”
Chanyeol’s curious too.
“Huh?” Minseok questions, now looking self-conscious as he looks down to his outfit, “Does it not look good? I thought I looked fine when I left the apartment.”
“You look–” Baekhyun starts off before his gaze darts to the younger sister behind the EMT and he cuts himself off from saying something inappropriate. “You look good,” he ends up settling on, making Minseok laugh again.
“Thanks.”
One of the doctors comes back into the station, looking at Minseok curiously before he trails after them, gesturing for his sister to come follow him to get a quick checkup. Baekhyun and Chanyeol follow them with their eyes, still surprised at seeing the man outside of his work uniform looking – “He looks so–”
“Don’t even finish that sentence out loud,” Chanyeol suddenly says, glaring at his best friend. “This is supposed to be a wonderful, semi-kid-friendly environment.”
Baekhyun rolls his eyes, settling back in his chair. “Yeah. ‘Kid-friendly,’ where we get patients who get s and vegetables and whatever nasty stuck up their asses and phone calls.”
“Baek,” Chanyeol hisses, even though he knows what Baekhyun said was all true, “At least keep your voice down.”
Baekhyun shrugs, staring at his friend. “So, what grand plan do you have now? This whole first date thing could lead to you getting married to my wonderfully new close friend just like how Yifan and Lu Han are disgustingly committed to each other for the rest of their lives.”
“Hey, I think they’re cute.”
“They are cute,” Baekhyun agrees, “But it doesn’t make it any less disgusting. They’re grossly cute.”
“You are so weird,” Chanyeol deadpans, turning back to his computer, “I have no plan as of yet. We need to figure out when we’re both free.”
“How about when he gets off of this stretch?”
“Well, yeah,” Chanyeol answers back, heaving a big sigh, “But he might have things or errands to do when he does get off.”
“So after you get him off, have an official date afterwards,” Baekhyun simply says, intentionally mishearing that whole statement, before he turns his attention back to Minseok when he lets his sister go through a quick routinely checkup from the doctor, “So, Minseok.”
“Baek!” Chanyeol squawks, looking back at his friend wide-eyed as his face flushes red. “That’s not what I meant!”
Baekhyun laughs, giving him a wink. “But it’s what you were thinking.”
“No, it wasn’t!”
“You look amazing,” Baekhyun suddenly says, instantly changing the conversation because Minseok looks great. He eyes him up and down again. “So. If this is how you dress outside of work, how does Jongin dress?”
Minseok raises a brow, the corners of his lips twisting upwards in amusement. “You’re more curious to how Jongin dresses than how I’m standing right here offering my services to you?”
Chanyeol sputters nonsense at the response, eyes practically popping out of his head.
“What services are you offering?” Baekhyun asks curiously. “Seriously, we didn’t even recognize you when you walked in.”
“That’s the whole point,” Minseok laughs, freeing up the tense atmosphere around Chanyeol, “When you come to the place where you normally work and have uniforms, you basically have to dress to impress when you visit.”
“Well, you’ve certainly impressed me,” Baekhyun agrees, reaching out to grab Minseok’s lapel on his jacket then gently trail it down the length. His gaze follows after his hand, stopping right at Minseok’s stomach. “Such nice material too.”
“Hm,” Minseok hums, watching the fascination swirl in Baekhyun’s eyes.
Chanyeol silently groans at the fact his best friend and his crush are progressing even faster than his and Jongdae’s possible future relationship. He hurriedly clicks and types in all the necessary information for the remaining patients in the computer before pulling up the Internet to start researching on how to woo Jongdae to him. “Okay,” he mumbles to himself, staring at the search engine page deciding on what to look up first. “Impress, don’t stress,” he says, figuring that looking up possible restaurants isn
