Chapter 7

The Perceptions of Beauty

The day has come, the day of the Talent Show. Since the day Jongin asked me to go. I thought we would be having more conversations and more interactions. But I was wrong.  Everything was still the same.

I filled myself with false hope once again.

I arrived at school early as usual to roam around the halls before the morning rush of students came in. However, I wasn't the only one who came by early. I felt the pounding vibration at my feet coming the a classroom ahead of me. I take one if the earbuds out. I could hear muffled beats.

I would usually walk to the other direction, unconcerned. But curiosity got the best of me. I wanted to know who was up this early blasting music.

I walked to the classroom and peeped inside through the slim window of the door. Inside I saw a boy dancing powerfully in front of he mirror. I recognized him right away. Jongin.

I don't know how long I was standing there watching him. He did not seem to notice and continued to dance passionately.

"Boo." The hot breath whisper touch my ear causing me to flinch and move as far away as I can from the owner of such whisper.

I heart beat accelerated as I saw the owner. Oh Sehun.

A smirk played on his face, "It's been a while since we talked."

I wanted to slap the smirk right off his face. Instead I gave him a stare before turning in the opposite direction. I plugged my other earbud in and walked away.

Yet, being the annoying person, Sehun was. His long legs caught up to and took my earbuds out and snatched my phone away from my hands.

"You ignored me again." Sehun said, His voice was firm and hard.

"Can I have my phone back, please?" I said in an annoyed tone.

Sehun looked down at my phone. The smirk on his face instantly disappeared. His face returned to his usual stoic and cold expression. He let my phone slip out of his hands and land on the floor. He did not say another word to me and walked back to the classroom Jongin was at.

I frowned at his unusual behavior. I picked up my phone and plugged in my earbuds back in, listening to Destiny of Love by Yiruma.

I returned home and to my surprise was greeted by my parents.

"We got off work early so we could see Jongin. Get ready, Chaehyun." She brushed my hair using her fingers and gave me a loving smile.

I couldn't help but smile back.

"I put the dress I bought you on your bed. Wear that one."

I nodded. I gave my mother one last smile before I headed to my room. I originally wanted to wear my school uniform since I was pretty lazy to change into anything else. My mother must have plans to take photos later.

On my bed laid a pastel pink halter skater dress. I let out a sigh as I took the dress and brought it with me to my bathroom.

I freshened up in my bathroom and put on the dress. It hugged my body perfectly making it easy for me to breathe in. My mom always loved to go shopping for my clothes but sometimes the clothes she buys for me are at times suffocating. However, this time, I liked the dress my mother picked out for me. The light pastel pink color complemented my skin well.

I brushed my long dark hair and decided to keep it in it's usual style which was parted down the middle. I took a seat at the edge of my bed to put on a pair of strapped tan heels. My mom must have placed them here while I was in the bathroom.

I grabbed my phone off my nightstand before walking out of my room and into the living roo to meet my parents.

As I entered, my mother smiled fondly at me, and to my surprise, my father was also smiling at me.

"I knew I picked the right dress, this fits you perfectly," My mother said as she ran her hands through my hair.

"Let's get going," My father led us to the front of the house, where our designated driver was waiting.

Upon arriving at school, my mother was fiddling around in her purse.

"What are you looking for?" I asked.

"I thought I brought my camera," She fiddled around more until her eyes lit up, "I found it!" She pulled it out and smiled happily at me. She was so beautiful.

I couldn't help but to smile back at her.

My father put a hand on our shoulders and led us to the auditorium.

The auditorium was filled with talkative students and chatty parents. We took a seat in the middle section. I sat in the aisle wwhile my mother and father seated next to me. We were lucky to find these seats since the auditorium was filling up pretty quickly.

In the section next to me, a couple of freshman girls sat and chatted quite loudly, enough for me to hear.

"I'm excited to see Kai and Sehun sunbae perform." One girl chirped.

"Yeah, I heard that they're performance will be amazing!" another chimed in.

To be honest I was anticipating Jongin's performance. I never actually saw him perform before. I know that it will be amazing because Jongin is a hard worker and is passionate about dancing.

Soon the lights in the large auditorium went dark and stage lit up. A slim figure appeared on stage. The lights focused on her. It was the senior class president, Taeyeon.

"Welcome everyone! I'm glad so many of you were able to come out today and watch all of our talented students perform!"

A roar of cheers filled the room.

Taeyeon gave a smile to the audience, "Well, I'm glad that our first performance will be from a fellow senior, Kim Jumnyeon!"

My face fell flat. I watched as the only friend I lost walked onto the stage. A piano was in the center and Suho placed himself on the chair. He adjusted the mic and spoke into it, "Hello everyone, I will be performing a song I composed myself."

I watched his performance half heartedly. I stared but I wasn't listening. A few words like 'don't go' and 'butterfly' was all that went through my ear. I wasn't paying attention to the lyrics. As each word he sang went through my ear, came flowing out the other.

When he was finished, he gave a warm smile to the audience before bowing. I scoffed at that smile.

That smile. A smile that would have sent a thousand bolts down my body and made me ecstatic. Yet, that effect is gone and replaced with indifference.

There were many performances that I watched half heartedly. Some were good, but some weren't. I felt my eyelids dropping to some of them.

Then, Taeyeon appeared on stage, "Everyone the night is close to an end... However, we still we have one more performance before we announce the winner!"

I straightened up in my seat. It was Jongin's turn. I felt my heartbeat pound as I saw a male silhouette stand in the center of the stage, his back facing the audience.

An all to familiar tune sounded through the speakers. Destiny of Love by Yiruma. One of my all time favorite piano pieces.

The male silhouette begin to move smoothly with the music. I found myself holding my breath as I saw him dance with the music.

A part of me wanted him to be Jongin. However, when the male turned around. It was not Jongin but Sehun. His movements were smooth and elegant yet prominent as he followed the moving notes. I was mesmerized by his dancing that I forgot my hatred for him.

I never thought that Destiny of Love would be a song that could be danced to. However, I was proved wrong.

Sehun ended with gracefully with his knees and his back facing us. The lights on the stage cut off and turned back on with another male kneeling, but this time, facing the audience. It was Jongin's turn. Jongin danced to Don't let me down, which was a more stronger upbeat song. He displayed his ballet talents as well as adding modern, contemporary moves. Even though I was watching Jongin's performance, I couldn't help but replay the images of Sehun dance.

The music cut off again, this time two males stood on the stage.

Upbeat techno sounds were playing off the speaker. The two danced in synchronization. The both matched each others power, causing the audience to be enticed with their every movement. My eyes shifted from Sehun to Jongin, then from Jongin to Sehun.

The boys ended their performance with a bow before running backstage. The crowd was wild. I heard the girls next me, screaming both Sehun's and Jongin's names. It was obvious who the winner of this competition was.

My parents and I waited for Jongin backstage. The halls were filled with much "congratulations" and "I'm proud of you" along with the occasional cheers and claps.

Jongin came out with a gold medal around his neck, along with a small trophy that said "1st place." My mother went up first to hug him and gave him a round of face kisses before Jongin was able to pull away.

My father gave him a pat on the back, "You did good, son. I'm proud of you." Jongin smiled and met eyes with me.

I gave him a small smile and a thumb ups. Jongin returned the smile and gave me a nod.

My mother brushed a strand of hair away from his face. "Let's have a party this weekend to celebrate your winning. Invite all of your friends."

Jongin smiled, pleased with the offer. On the other hand, I was going to dread the day of the party. Just another day of me locked up in my room.

My parents continued to talk to Jongin, as well as the other parents backstage.

I felt out of place and made my way to the school's outdoor courtyard, the place where I would usually eat my lunch. I took a seat on the bench and closed my eyes to enjoy the night breeze. It was still freezing cold outside, but I didn't care. It felt better to be out here than to be in the building with them.

Suddenly I felt a weight on the bench I was sitting on. My eyes bolted open and looked at the person.

My heart stopped, "Suho."

Chapter 12: I feel like the owner of the Oh My Ramen! was Sehun's parents. There might be a possibility that he came from a plastic family but he got chosen as Elysian.
