Chapter 6

The Perceptions of Beauty

I wasn't too thrilled to be going to school today. First off, it's a Monday. Second off, I have to see Oh Sehun again. Third off, Oh Sehun knows I'm Jongin's twin sister.  Great. I'm so excited to see how today goes. Yay.

Despite the Monday mood that brought many students to irritation, the school was quite excited. I furrowed my eyebrows at the students talking enthusiastically. I pulled one of my earphones out of my ear to listen in at the students conversation. The words "talent show" came to my ear as I walked down the hallways to my first class.

As usual it was empty, I was usually one of the first students in the classroom. I settled into my seat. I set my phone on my desk and went between apps to occupy myself before class started, my earphones were still plugged in, blocking out all surrounding sounds.

I did not realize someone had taken a seat in front of me until I saw a pencil tapping lightly at my desk. I looked up at the owner, slightly annoyed. It was Oh Sehun. I looked around the classroom for anyone else before setting my eyes on him. He had a mischievous grin on his face.

"How your weekend, Chaehyun?" The way he said my name sent shivers down my spine.

I rolled my eyes at him then continued to look down at my phone.

Before Sehun could say anything else, Baekhyun and Chanyeol walked in.

"There you are, we've been looking for you." Chanyeol said giving Sehun a slight hit on his back. He sent me a displeased look before looking back at Sehun.

"What is it?" Sehun said with a slightly annoyed tone.

"Are you going to enter the talent show?" Baekhyun asked.

I was quite bothered by the fact that they were around my desk.

"I don't know, I might do it with Kai. He's been wanting to enter it." Sehun said casually.

"I heard winner gets a $5000 scholarship." Chanyeol said.

"Really?" Sehun lifted up from the seat in front of me, "Where's Kai?" He took out his phone.

I plugged my earphones back in and went back to looking through apps on my phone. I had not realize that Sehun, Chanyeol and Baekhyun had left the classroom.

The day went by uneventful. There were a few chatters about the annual school talent show here and there but it was nothing of my concern.

I came home, however, both of my parents were home surprisingly. I saw my mother sitting comfortably on the couch watching TV. "Hello" I said to her.

"Ah Chaehyun, how was school?" My mother asked.

"It was fine." I replied and then walked up the stairs to my room. I unpacked my backpack. I set my school notebooks and textbooks on my desk. I then studied for the next three hours.

Soon it was 7 pm. I heard my mother's voice call me from down the stairs. As much as I missed spending time with my family. Yesterday's dinner made me dread whatever was going to come about during today's dinner.

I sighed.

I took my seat beside Jongin who did not acknowledge me. Not surprised whatsoever.

"Jongin, will you be joining the talent show?" My father asked as he took a bite of his food.

Jongin nodded politely, "Yes, I will be creating a choreograph with Sehun, the one from last night."

"Ah Sehun." My father said enthusiastically. A small smile appeared on his face, "I like that boy."

My fist clenched at the mention of Sehun. I did not like that my father had taken a liking in Sehun. If only he knew what he was like at school.

"Chaehyun, are you joining?" My father already knew the answer but decided to ask anyways. I hated whenever he did that.

"No."

My father scoffed, "What a shame. But you will be joining your mother and I in supporting you brother, understand."

"Yes, I understand." I took a small bite of my food. Of course, I did not want to attend the show, but my parents will be making me go either way.

A few weeks pass by that were uneventful. Sehun did not torment me too much along with his group. My guess was that they were too busy preparing for the upcoming talent show that was occurring next week.

Whenever Sehun or his group of friends saw me they would usually give the casual disgusted look and along with a few shoulder bumps here and there. It was nothing. However, tt felt nice, like I was finally able to breathe. But I knew the air will soon become harder to inhale.

Once school was over I decided to go the library. I found a nice study table and ended up studying for another two hours before my eyelids suddenly became heavy. The next thing I know, I'm fast asleep on top of my books.

"Chaehyun, you don't know how much you mean to me, you can't push me away like this!" The voice was from behind. I was facing a pond. It reflected the bright full moon.

I was sleeping peacefully until I felt a hand being placed on my shoulder.

A soft voice called my name. I opened my eyes slowly and saw the blurry view of my twin brother, Jongin.

"Jongin?" I called out.

"Let's go home, it's getting pretty late." Jongin said as he started putting my books into my backpack.

"What are you still doing here?" I asked as I grabbed my backpack from him.

"I was practicing for the talent show." Jongin replied. "Let's go home, now." He turned his back to me and started walking towards the exit.

I followed quietly behind him. This was the most that was said between us in a long time. I felt myself smile at our small conversation. We walked quietly to the parking lot where his car was parked. Jongin had his license while I still yet to acquire mine.

Our home wasn't far from school. At most it was a 10 minute drive. My eyes were fixed on the passing buildings. I felt the awkward air around us but the music playing seemed to lessen it. Not by much, though.

Jongin cleared his throat breaking the silence. "The talent show is on Friday, are you going?"

I did not think much about the talent show. It was just one of those many school events that I don't plan on attending. Before I could answer, Jongin spoke again.

"Mom and Dad will be there."

I nodded in realization. That's when I remembered, my father telling me I had to go to support my brother. I was hoping to make up some lie in the meantime to avoid going. I wanted to stay at home and be kept to myself. Away from school. Away from Sehun. Away from Elysians.

"I would like it, if you were able to go." Jongin said, but I almost did not catch what he said. His voice was barely above a whisper.

I was caught off guard by his statement. We haven't talked to each other in nearly two year. Avoiding every interaction we have. I was pleasantly surprised and I just nodded in response. I quietly smiled to myself for the rest of the ride home.

If Jongin wants me to go, then I'll go.

Chapter 12: I feel like the owner of the Oh My Ramen! was Sehun's parents. There might be a possibility that he came from a plastic family but he got chosen as Elysian.
