2. Say A Little Prayer
Guardian AngelIt had been two years since Jonghyun had been in that car accident. He had woken up in the hospital, his parents and sister on their knees, head bowed in prayer.
Jonghyun had never liked the thought of religion; felt that uniformed practice was unnecessary. That never stopped him from saying a silent prayer every now and then when he felt that he needed it.
As he walked through the doors of his homeroom Jonghyun was greeted by all of his classmates. He wasn’t popular, he didn’t even have that many friends, he was just the class president and that was the treatment you received. It wasn’t even like he had much choice, nobody else wanted it and he needed the extra credit.
He quickly took his seat and pulled out the previous night’s homework. “Hey Kim you finish last night’s homework?” Jonghyun turned to the voice of his annoying best-friend-but-not-really-best-friend Kibum and nodded.
“If you want to copy it though, you’ll have to buy me lunch Kibum.” Jonghyun smiled as the younger groaned and held his hand out. “Fine but nothing too expensive Kim, I spent most of my pocket money on that new Iron Man action figure.”
Jonghyun grinned at the thought of free lunch and handed over his homework.
Four hours later Jonghyun and Kibum were standing in the line for lunch. Kibum had his nose buried in one of his many comic books and Jonghyun started people watching.
As the line moved Jonghyun looked to the left and noticed a very out of place person not wearing the school uniform. Jonghyun cocked his head to the side and frowned as the person looked behind him and then back at Jonghyun, he waved and Jonghyun waved back.
The person quickly got up and left and Jonghyun followed after him, intrigued as to why someone so obviously not a student was in the student cafeteria. He followed after the long haired man as he went through several doors and hallways.
As Jonghyun followed around the corner he realized the man had disappeared. Confused he made his way back to Kibum and his free lunch.

“I’m serious; he looked right at me and waved when I waved back.” Jinki paced back and forth in front of his friend Minho. “Hyung maybe someone was waving to him.”
He shook his head, “No I checked. He even followed me out of there. How can he see me? They’re not supposed to see us!” Minho flinched at Jinki’s yelling and sighed rubbing his forehead.
“Well you’re not really a normal guardian angel you know? You’re-“ Jinki threw the closest object he could reach at Minho.
“We’re not supposed to talk about it Minho, you know the rules. One word and you’re.” Jinki makes a line across his throat and Minho shudders. “Yeah hyung I know.”
“It that it all ends today though.” Jinki feel sad knowing he’s about to end his time as a guardian angel. He kind of liked watching that punk Kim Jonghyun grow up.
Jinki sighs and sits next to Minho. “Let’s talk about something else. How’s your charge doing? What’s his name again Tae- something?” Minho smiled and sat up straighter. “It’s Taemin and he’s doing really well, he just won the regional science award and he’s thinking about going abroad when he graduates. Oh! Did I tell you? He’s graduating early. He’s such a smart kid hyung.”
Jinki smiles as Minho goes on and on about Taemin.

Jonghyun and Kibum had just barely entered the house when Jonghyun’s mother came rushing out of the kitchen and all but shoving a plate of food in each of their hands. “Aigoo you’re both growing up so fast. Kibum-ah you should eat more, you’re all skin and bones. Women like men with a little meat.”
After much more smothering, some cheek pinching with “Kibum-ah you’re so handsome.” and food being shoved into their mouths both boys finally make it into Jonghyun’s room and collapse on the floor. “Dude your mom is going to make us too fat to fit through doorframes.”
Jonghyun sits up and grabs Kibums cheeks and imitates his mother’s voice, “Aigoo Kibum-ah you’re so handsome. Oh what should I do with such a cute boy around my house?”
Laughing Kibum pries Jonghyun’s hands off his face. “It’s not my fault your mom has a crush on me, you should call me dad.”
“Ew dude, she’s married to my dad. Don’t think that just because my mom babies you earns you the right to be called dad.” Kibum rolls his eyes and pulls out his comic book already immersed.
Jonghyun gets up and opens his curtains. He turns to grab his backpack when he hears a meow. Looking out his window he sees a small gray cat on the ledge of the roof. He immediately opens the window and pulls himself up and onto the roof.
“Yah Kim Jonghyun what do you think you’re doing?” Kibum says grabbing his leg.
“There’s a cat out here.” He says and Kibum shakes his head. “Cats have nine lives, you have one, you are not risking your life for some stupid cat.”
Jonghyun shakes him off and crawls on his hands and knees towards the cat. He’s barely two feet away and the cat jumps onto a tree and scatters down the trunk to the ground. Jonghyun sighs and turns to crawl back in through the window when his foot slips and suddenly everything is wrong.
He quickly sends a little prayer to Heaven asking for a guardian angel to save him before he cracks his skull on the ground and then he’s falling.
