Qualified Without Qualifications“So… Lu Han, it’s great to finally meet you”
“You too, Kris.”
He scratches his nape. “Can we dance?”
The violins in the restaurant are playing beside us.
I find it hard to decline his offer so I just take his hand.
He can’t even look into my eyes. How can he attract me?
He’s really charming. But he’s awkward.
“What’s your favorite Korean group?” He asks out of the blue.
“SNSD. You?”
“You wouldn’t believe it, I love SNSD too!”
I remember myself in him…
“So what do you think about poop?”
What do you mean?”
“Poop is a great fertilizer, you know that?”
“I know. But poop… isn’t my thing”
…But the difference is he’s true.
“Anyway, poop isn’t my thing too. I was kidding”
He smiles. “You’re silly”
“You’re honest”
“You’re cute”
“You’re charming”
I cover my mouth all of a sudden.
I bite the insides of my cheeks
“I-I-I—“
“You attract me like a magnet”
“You made me say something that I wasn’t supposed to say”
Wow. I spoke that sentence without stuttering.
The awkwardness dies down and we find ourselves laughing over simple things.
Like how big are the holes of the bartender’s nose when he yawns. How the manager’s suit is about to explode because of his chubbiness. How careless he is to bite his tongue all the time. How clumsy I am to spill the wine on the waiter.
He’s not boring.
The date isn’t boring.
Full of laughter. And this time, I’m sure that I listened carefully.
I can even write a list of facts about him.

“The champagne’s great,” he compliments his glass of champagne.
“I agree. Can you drive after drinking?”
“Of course I won’t drink a lot. Your safety is important”
“For your safety.” He lifts his glass for a toast.
“Cheers”
Does that even make sense?
Whatever. Just drink.
I don’t know how many glasses of champagne am I drinking. But I’m still fine. Not even drowsy or dizzy. I have a high tolerance for these drinks, I think.

The date’s over and he drives me back to my apartment.
He opens the door of his car for me.
That’s the real gentleman!
He gets my hand and leads me to the door.
“I really enjoyed our date.” He smiles.
“Me too”
“So tomorrow again?”
I slap his arm lightly. “Silly”
He kisses my cheek. “Good night”
He just kissed my cheek…

I feel numb.
How do I react with that?
I can’t even move.
And wait.
Did I just see BIBS’ car going the other way?
