Stop.

I needed to stop.

“You’re working so much Amber…I think you should take a break. I mean you’ve been spending your nights here at the hospital for the past two weeks.”

I rubbed my eyes and shook my head vigorously.

“I’m fine, really. I just need to regularly check up on this patient. You know how serious her case is, I can’t just leave.”

“If it makes you feel better I’ll take over this one for you. Just give me all the charts for her and I’ll take it from there.”

I gripped the clipboard in my hand. He stuck out his hand asking for it. I handed it over reluctantly.

“You’re making a good choice Amber. I’ve seen you break down several times down here and you just need a few weeks break and you can come back,” He said, “Plus I’ve heard that your girlfriend misses you a lot.”

“You just know that since you’re friends with her,” I said.

“But she really does Amber,” He said, “Spend time with her on this break and don’t think of work. You won’t have to worry since I’ll be taking care of her for the time being. Once you get back you can take full control again.”

I let out a heavy sigh.

“Fine, fine if you want me out so much,” I said standing up from the chair, “I’ll just set up the medication for her one last time to make myself feel better.”

“Whatever you need to do.”

I know that I should feel a bit relieved that I’m getting a break from working almost non-stop for a few months now but I just don’t feel complete yet.

I moved around the small bottles of medication around on the table.

Maybe I’ll feel better after sleeping in my own bed…

I set the medications down onto a tray and wrote a small note. I grabbed my jacket and left for my break.
