THE WOLF WHO HATED THE MOON part 1: Devastated Love

 

[Piano keys tinkling as the curtains sweep apart]

 

[Baekhyun] This story takes place at the time of Emperor Gwangmu. The summer sun shines bright at the province of Gyeonggi, while the ray of love shine above Lee EunHae and Choi Hansol. They were childhood friends who used to play under the shade of the same trees. Now, they both stand above the ray of love together, leaving the shade that once bounded them as friends.

 

[Sweet music plays as Sei and Xiumin appears center stage; frolicking]

 

[Sei] I wish this would last forever,

[Xiumin]: I cannot guarantee, my love that this romance would last forever. But if that is your wish, I will gladly comply.

[Sei; smiling]: Thank you, Hansol.

[A distant marching can be heard and Chanyeol appears to the stage]

[Chanyeol] Are you Choi Hansol? [To Xiumin]

[Xiumin] Yes I am.

[Chanyeol] I am here to deliver a message from your father. [Takes out a scroll] He is in need of you.

[Xiumin; opens and reads the scroll] He’s involved in a war?! T-This is impossible! [Throws the scroll and turns around angrily]

[Chanyeol; picks up the scroll] I beg of you, Hansol. Your father needs your aid. If you won’t hurry, you might not be able to see him again.

[Xiumin; faces Chanyeol] But Captain Kang! Did he not know that I shall be wed soon?! Why does he have to engage himself in war?!

[Sei; pats Xiumin’s shoulder] Go.

[Xiumin; looks at her; clasps her hands] But my love..!

[Sei] Your father needs you now, my dear. Our wedding can wait for another full moon.

[Xiumin; puts on a determined look] I shall return in time for our wedding, my love. I shall bring him back so that he’ll give us the blessing for our tomorrow.

[Sei] I’ll wait until that time comes. I shall thank him upon your return.

[Xiumin lets go of Sei’s hands and faces Chanyeol]

[Xiumin] Allow me to join your squad, Captain Kang.

[Chanyeol] Granted. Let’s go.

[Xiumin follows Suho and his squad to march away. Sei disappears to the other side of the stage and the lights dims for a while]

*BLACK PEARL starts*

[The lights open again and Kai appears on the platform; dressed as a swashbuckler with D.O. just below him]

[D.O] She’s my Black Pearl~ She’s my Black Pearl~

[Kai and Kyungsoo got down on the platform as though they stopped and set foot on a new land]

[Sei appears on the background; Kai follows her with his eyes]

[Kai] Sinhwa soge sal geotman gateun oh, naui yeosina

[Sei disappears on the other side]

[Kai; tries to follow her] Siganeul hechigo neol chajaga

[D.O. ; stops Kai] Yeongwonhan geotdeureun mideobon jeogi eomneunde

[Kai shrugs D.O.’s hand and faces him]

[D.O.] Pokpungi morachineun ajjilhan sunganedo?

[Kai] Baetmeoril dollijima hanghaereul meomchujima

[The two walks towards the center stage]

[Both] Geochireojin sumyeonui yodongeul jaewo

[D.O.] She’s my beautiful black pearl~ Yeah~

[Kai; chants] She’s my black pearl~ She’s my black pearl~

[D.O.] She’s my beautiful beautiful black pearl~

*BLACK PEARL ends*

[D.O.] Do you not realize where you are, Sho Min Kyu?! This is a foreign land!

[Kai] It may be, first mate; but for a beautiful flower to bloom in such a place, [sighs; looks around] I am confident that this is not a land of marauders.

[D.O.; throws his hands in defeat] Heed my words, Captain. Be careful for this land is not known to us.

[Kai; looks at him; smirking] Heed my words, first mate Fa. Your Captain is much stronger than you think he is~

[Kai and D.O. climb up the stairs as the background changes and Sei appears center stage with Lay]

[Sei; to Lay] Be kind to me, my servant and tell me that that vessel solemnly sitting on the waves is Hansol’s vessel.

[Lay; bows] Deep regrets, my lady. But that vessel belongs to the foreigners trading silks and porcelains.

[Sei] Really? I would love to see their fine products. Do me a favor and please invite them here.

[Lay] As you wish, my lady.

[Lay climbs up the stairs and passes the platform where Kai and D.O. was. The light focuses on them as Kai stops Lay]

[Kai; holds Lay’s arm] Whoa! Slow down, my good man! Can we ask if you are from that grand palace on top of the hill?

[Lay; nods] Yes I am. I was going down to the port to ask the traders to come at my lady’s house so that she can see their finest silks and porcelains.

[D.O.] Then you are most lucky~! We are the owner of the very large vessel by the port. We can bring some of our silks to your lady so that we can earn a bit of fortune.

[Lay] You will? Oh I’m sure my lady will like it. I shall tell her immediately so that we can prepare for your arrival! [Bows down and leaves the scene]

[D.O.; looks at Kai] Are you happy now, my captain? I have used my skills so that you can get a closer look to the black pearl that you sought.

[Kai; grins and pats D.O.’s shoulder] I am grateful, first mate. Now let’s get those silks that we have under the deck.

[Kai and D.O. disappears on the platform and the light focuses again on the center stage with Lay returning and Suho accompanying Kai and D.O. to Sei]

*Door sliding*

[Suho] My lady, here are the traders of the sea that you wished to see.

[Sei] Let them in.

[Suho welcomes Kai and D.O. before leaving the stage with Lay. Kai bows down to Sei]

[Kai] It’s an honor for us to be here, my lady. I heard that you were looking for the finest silks from the sea. [Shows a bright red cloth] This one suits your beauty~

[Sei] Thank you for the compliment. If I may, can I see all of your most beautiful products?

[Kai; smiles] Certainly; my lady. It’s in our vessel that rests behind the rocks. [Stands up and helps Sei.]

[The three disappears to the other side as the background changes again. Suho and Xiumin appears]

*FOREST SOUNDS*

[Chanyeol; panting] We managed to lose them… [Gasps] But they’ll be here in time advance if we don’t hurry!

[Xiumin] It’s Fine… [Huffs]…as long as I knew that my father shall go home safely.

[Chanyeol; purses his lips] Let’s move now…

[Xiumin] Alright

[The two runs and disappears on the other side while Sei, Kai and D.O. appears on the platform]

[Sei] Oh! What beautiful patterns!

[D.O.] We are very pleased that you took a liking on them.

[A piece of paper falls from Sei’s sleeve. Kai picks it up]

[Kai; opens the paper] Who is this?

[Sei; takes the paper from Kai] T—this is my future husband. I’m picking some silks for my upcoming wedding in the next full moon.

[Kai] Is your partner around, if I may ask? We can call him so that he can pick some silks as well.

[Sei; shakes her head] He’s not here. Hansol is currently defending his father’s army at south.

[The scene ends and a new one started, showing Suho and Xiumin on a raft]

*THUNDER CLAPS AND RUMBLING SOUNDS plays*

[Chanyeol; clinging on the raft’s single post] This is the end for us, Hansol! With this storm, it’s impossi---

[Xiumin] D—don’t lose hope, Captain..! We have to survive this storm! There are many people waiting for us..!

*BLACK PEARL plays again*

[Kai and D.O. appears on the platform]

[D.O.] She’s my beautiful beautiful black pearl

*BLACK PEARL ends*

[Kai] I don’t want him to return, first mate. [Looks at D.O.] I propose that this flower be uprooted from her own land; place it in a pot and be carried to the sea with us.

[D.O.] But if Hansol returns safe from the war, he will chase us to the sea! It’s not right to covet one’s wife, Captain! Everybody knows that!

[Kai; smirks] I wouldn’t commit the sin…If Hansol is dead before their wedding.

[D.O.] What are you planning, Captain?

[The light fades and focuses on the center stage, where Xiumin and Chanyeol appears, surviving the storm]

[Chanyeol] You were right, Hansol. There are many people waiting for our return. That alone gives me the courage to move on and live.

[Xiumin] It is. Anyways, we need to move. EunHae is waiting for me.

*RUSTLING sounds*

[Chanyeol screams]

[Xiumin] Captain!

[Chanyeol] Run, Hansol..!!

[Xiumin; draws his sword] Who’s there?! Show yourself!

*RUSHING WIND sounds* [Xiumin falls to the ground as the unknown enemy strikes]

[Kai; steps forward] Are you Choi Hansol that participated in the war on the south?! How weak!

[Xiumin; in pain; looks up] W—who are you..?!

[Kai] I am your wife’s future husband~

[Xiumin] WHAT?!

[D.O.; steps on his head] Be quiet! You are talking with the Captain!

[Kai; chuckles low] I’m so sorry but EunHae will be spending eternity with me.

[Xiumin; mumbles] EunHae…

[Kai; raises his sword] I’ll never leave her like you did~ [Drops the sword to Xiumin’s back]

[Xiumin] AAAAHHHH!!!!

*SILENCE*

[Kai; draws his sword out of Xiumin’s back] Let’s go

[D.O.] But what about their bodies, captain?!

[Kai] Let them be. The tide shall take them away.

[Kai and D.O. left the stage and Chanyeol stands up and leaves as well. Xiumin stands up and wanders in the stage]

[Xiumin; looking at the sky] How cruel for the night to cover our deaths… Moon… why are you hiding underneath the clouds? Why are you afraid to witness our deaths? Doesn’t anybody else… witness our cruel kismet?

*RUSTLING sounds*

[Xiumin; looks around] Who? So it’s you… wolf. You are brave enough to peek behind the bushes and witness our deaths. I wish to be like you. I wish to witness everything beyond the darkness where you live. But alas! I cannot love the moon like all of you did! Please… gods! I beg of you! Let me live within the shadows! Let me live like the wolves…

*EL DORADO plays*

[Xiumin collapses as EL DORADO plays. Above the platform, Sei was shown crying in grief as Kai tells her the news about Xiumin’s fate. The curtains close and the music faints]

“Okay,” Grell rang in the microphone. “We’ll be having a short break~! Please come back after thirty minutes~~”

The people start leaving the auditorium while whining. It looks like they were captivated by the performance of our dear Gardeners and their friends. Back at the stage, everybody is fixing themselves, having a quick treat, and some are memorizing their lines. With the first part a true success, Cream began feeling uneasy and nervous. She knew what her lines are and the actions that she’s going to do. But still, she’s having butterflies in her stomach. Xiumin notices this and talks to her.

“What’s wrong, Cream?” he asks.

“I feel like my tummy’s going to blow,” Cream replies with an uneasy expression. “I’m nervous,”

Xiumin smiles and pats her shoulder.

“You’ll do just fine. Just be yourself, Cream.” He says.

Cream’s uneasiness suddenly disappears and she wears a smile herself.

“Let’s do our best, Minseok.” Cream tells him.

“Just Xiumin will do,” Xiumin says with a chuckle.

Thirty minutes then passed. The people start filling the auditorium once again; all of them are eager to what will happen next.
