A Man at the Bridge
30 Days Marrying You
Hyoyeon awoke to the smell of roses. She sat up, almost hoping for all that happened yesterday was a dream. But no. A quick look around told her that she was not dreaming. For one thing, she was lying under soft blankets on a comfortable king-sized bed in a big, deluxe room whose walls were painted a light red. The curtains were already drew up the window so that the light was making her eyes could see clearly around the room.
There were rose petals on the floor, surrounding the bed and a large LCD TV on one corner. There was also a white sofa to the size of a bed. Hyoyeon sat up, the blankets falling away, and realized two things. One, she was still wearing the same wedding gown she’d been wearing for the wedding ceremony; and two, that the person on the sofa was dozing, his head propped on his hand while the pillow he used last night lying on his side and his short blonde hair looked messy.
“Kris?” She called.
His head popped up like a startled jack-in-the-box’s, his eyes flying open. “Oooh! You’re awake!” He sat up straight, sightly his hair. “It is almost afternoon. Do you want to eat something?”
“Afternoon?” Hyoyeon echoed. She glanced around the room, blinking. Then, she spotted the clock at the wall. Kris was right. It was almost 12 pm. Did she sleep that long? “Have you already eaten?” She asked, and realized the moment the words were out of that that, of course, was not the right question at the moment. ‘I mean, what kind of development is this?’
Before Hyoyeon could make any more comment, she saw Kris tugged nervously at the crochet trim that bordered the pillow’s upholstery. “I woke up this morning and tried to wake you up. But, you won’t budge. So, I called for some breakfast. When they came bringing the breakfast, I tried to wake you up again but you continued sleeping. So, I ate first because I was hungry. After I finished eating, I woke you up again but there was no sign that you would wake up,” Kris explained, speaking so rapidly that his words blurred together and Hyoyeon had to strain to catch them. “That’s why, I went to sleep again,” he finished.
“Oh.” That was her only reply. As a matter of fact, she couldn’t care less about food right now. For starter, she needed a change of clothes to replace the wedding gown on her body. “By the way, do you know how can I get a change of clothes?”
“Oh, your clothes are already in the closet!” Kris pointed to the walk-in closet on the wall.
Hyoyeon furrowed her brows. “My clothes? My own clothes?” Kris nodded. Hyoyeon walked closer to the closet and checked the clothes hanging in the closet. It was true. They were all her clothes. “So, what are my clothes already doing here?”
“Errr… someone brought it over?”
“This many?” Her eyebrows shot up.
Kris shrugged. Hyoyeon sighed. Her clothes. Her situation. This suite. Everything whirled through her head.
“And, what’s with this unnecessary big suite?”
“Well, I don't get it. You win the lottery and you're asking for explanations?”
“Actually, I'd just like to know who to send the thank you note to.” She replied sarcastically.
Hyoyeon picked the clothes she was going to change into and without waiting for Kris answer, she headed to the bathroom. She was stripping off the gown when the door was suddenly opened.
“There is something important that I want to tell you…” Kris popped but he stopped. His face appeared at the opening of the door. His eyebrows went up. Hyoyeon’s hand was on her bras, ready to pull it off. There was a slight pause.
Hyoyeon recoiled. “Kyaaa! What are you doing? And why are you still looking? I’m changing off my clothes now!”
“Why? I don’t see a problem with that?” Kris was still staring at her.
“Out! Get out now!” Hyoyeon grabbed one of the bottles on the sink and threw it into his direction. Kris quickly closed the door just in time for the bottle to strike the door.
