Rumours Among Teammates

You're Mine

I don't know what I'm gonna do after I graduate. Running barefooted on a green field is all I've done since I was a child. I’ve never wondered what I would become other then a football player. Through your life, the future spontaneously visits your mind but it isn't until the end is near that you open the door and let it walk in. I've only let one dream pass by. I haven't bothered with post-secondary applications or finding a summer job since I'm financially stable.

Diplomas are seven days away and I still have three art projects to finish and write an English letter. It also seems that the school district can't do anything to help translate my diplomas from Korean to Japanese so I can understand and pass my exams. My homeroom teacher, Miss Katherine wrote to the school board and they have granted me an extra hour to write the diplomas as long as I keep it a secret from other students.

It's not just the school's atmosphere that has changed, S.M football club has too. Each match is a battlefield, everyone is your enemy and you can't take sides. We can't risk getting injured because any small mistake can cost you to be a bench warmer. Even Amber jokes about stealing some girl's position and although she laughs I can tell there is double meaning behind her moon shaped eyes. She is deadly serious and I'm clueless as to why girls have turned their backs on each other. Lately, most of the recent practices have ended on the coaches rushing to split the two teams apart. It turns out that it's the time of the season where girls start getting ranked and the possibility of a newbie joining the pro players rises significantly and sometimes it's not only one person but almost a whole team. The roles can also be reversed since some must come down in order for others to move up. It's hectic and those who have a spot aren't sure if they are secure or on the tipping edge to falling numbers.

"It's crazy. You know these two girls were best friends, they shared lockers and held hands and they would attend each other's games but today one tackled the other. Are you hearing me, she got tackled! The poor girl can't walk and fortunately, it's just a sprained ankle." I guess I made a commotion since some of the maids have stopped by the table and are waiting for me to explain in depth.

One of the younger maids hands me a cup of water then three pills. I swallow the pills and hand the empty cup to her.  I've grown used to the chemical aftertaste that lingers in my mouth but my nose has yet to adjust. Not wanting to struggle with the odour I stand up and walk to the bathroom to brush my teeth.

The phone rings and I can't get it so Minho does. I hear him use his stern voice to ask who is on the other line and after two seconds his voice takes a three sixty turn as he replies back with a soft tone. The other person on the other is either mum or Hana.

I walk back to the kitchen while facing Minho who hisses at me to leave his presence. When I return some of the maids are cleaning the kitchen and Sehun is still concentrated on his homework.

He reads his economics textbook while holding a highlighter, ready to outline any keywords.

"What are you doing?" I ask Sehun.

Sehun ignores me so I try to pass time by rearranging the spoons. Minho is still using the phone so he gestures for me to quiet down. I'm putting spoons that are heavy on one side, Sehun is focusing on his studies and Minho is awkwardly flirting through the phone.

I lift my gaze to see Sehun placing his textbook on his backpack and as fast as possible I try to place all the spoons on their previous arrangement. Sehun leaves the table and I drop the spoons and push my chair in order to catch up with him. The stairs are hard to manoeuvre without tripping.

"I haven't told you all of the stories." I throw myself on his bed.

"No more stories. I need you to help me pick an outfit." Sehun says as he reaches into his wardrobe and starts pulling out random clothing. After countless of changes, we settle for simple pair of blue jeans and a white shirt with an embroidered heart.

"Why are we doing this in the middle of the night?" I ask as I help fold his clothing.

"Kai and I are studying after school." He says it as if it isn't a big deal. It is a big deal otherwise we would not be trying to look pretty for Kai. Sehun is so smitten by him and I know this because he never fails to make a reference towards him, clothing, food, weather. He knows allot about Kai, more than he would like to admit.

"Does this Kai like you back? Wait, who asked who to 'study'?" I lift my eyebrows at him.

Sehun laughs. " I did."

I laugh along with him but my insides are warning me that his feelings are too deep that if he were to drown there might not be a possibility to pull him out. When Sehun talks about Kai it's like he is experiencing first love all over again. Kai sounds like a gentleman and seems to be equally interested in Sehun but it could just be friendship. He sounds too good to be true and it’s like he’s  from a fairytale with the sole purpose to invade Sehun's mind. I worry because when things are too good to be true they usually aren't.

"Is he gay, I mean is he ok with you being gay?" There I have said it. It's a risky topic to bring up without sounding rude or a pessimist.

"I don't know. I haven't told him." For a second I see his eyes shift as if he wants to cry but the gleam in his eyes return before I can say anything.

"I can't." Sehun sits and the bed dips. I hug him.

"Why?" I'm sure Kai will understand and this can either result in Kai gaining interest on Sehun or strengthening their friendship. Being honest with each other is the beginning of a strong relationship.

"I can tell he is straight but that's because he hasn't dated me. I just need time." Sehun assures himself.

I'm so happy to see my friend all giddy and flamboyant but the negative thoughts are not leaving my mind. "And what if he doesn't feel the same way," I state.

"Why can't you be happy for me?" Sehun pushes himself from me and I stare at his sad face.

"No Sehun you know I love you. It's just I don't wanna give you false hope, I don't wanna see you get hurt. I can tell you like him allot and it worries me." I pout and stretch my arms out for a hug.

"Well, you don't have to worry about me." Sehun snuggles to me as a way to tell me that we are fine. We sit in silence and eventually fall asleep. I dream of a crowd cheering and Sehun is probably dreaming of Kai and him dating.

I wake up in the middle of the night. My phone has been vibrating like crazy. I press the on button and watch as messages fill the home screen. There is three missed calls from Amber and 10 messages from her. I dial her number and press the phone to my ear.

“Why where you calling so late?” My voice is raspy and I’m struggling to not fall asleep. This better not be her talking about another K-drama she has invested her life on. She usually calls me when it’s the last episode and begs me watch it with her. So there in the middle of the night I retrieve my laptop and let her shout, “the main lead deserves the handsome man”. When she is extremely emotional I put her on silence.

“Oh. My. Llama. We made it. It’s on their official website we are on the pro team. Mina you there?”

What is she talking about? SM only has their players background on the website and the games.  My heart drops and I hold my breath because I can’t trust my ears. My brain is still waking up or I’m still dreaming, this feels real.

“I’m here. Amber don’t joke this is a serious matter.”  I lazily reply back.

“I’m not joking. I’m serious.” I can tell that she isn’t playing a trick on me. Her voice is cheerful and feminine and I can hear her screaming. She’s screaming, I’m screaming, Sehun’s screaming.

“What happened?” Sehun touches my shoulder and slowly pushes me to rest my head on his chest.

“Thank you Amber for calling me. I’ll see you next practice.” Do I even Korean.

“What happe-“ I stop Sehun and plant a kiss on his forehead.

“I’ve taken a pro players position. Sehun I’m officially a player for S.M.”  Sehun hugs me.

“That’s wonderful but I really need to sleep. You don’t have school tomorrow but I still have to attend classes so sleep. Please. We can tell Minho tomorrow. Sleep.” Sehun falls asleep while I stay awake. I can internally scream for the rest of night and until morning comes. It’s happening, It won’t be long till I reach Minho’s level of popularity.

Chapter 21: Umm...truthfully.. I really like the story..somehow i kinda got a grasp about the storyline.. But still, i hope that you could work out your writing structure, grammar n etc..yeahh its kinda heavy to do all that...but still, working on for the best would get u the best isn't it? Maybe you could start off by putting who's who person pov or something.. Or maybe u could decide whether u wanna make it as third party narrator or the person narration...pardon me if i'm wrong... N chaiyokk!!!!
