It had been months since Minho and Onew’s joint birthday celebration. Minho and Onew had gotten comfortable around each other, and while no romantic relationship had come to fruition yet, they were close friends now, and talked a lot. Jonghyun and Taemin were going strong, their 5th month of being together coming around the corner. Key had accepted their relationship and while there was still a little bit of sting, his days were filled with laughter as Mir spent more and more time with him. Key wasn’t sure what his feelings were, but he was so happy that he could keep his friendship with Jonghyun and Taemin. 

The members were backstage in a huddle, getting psyched for the concert they were about to put on. The lineup was great: classic songs, new songs, hilarious covers of songs, a great solo performance by each member, and cute videos to excite the audience with, not to mention, the classic SM tradition of pouring freezing cold water on each other. 

The concert began with a really awesome video sequence of how the boys progressed from their trainee days all the way to Dream Girl and Why So Serious?

The concert began with Ready or Not? The sea of shining pearlescent blue light-sticks illuminated the otherwise dark stadium as the members popped out from underneath the extremely large stage. 

A few songs passed and the crowd went insane for Aside, Beautiful, Sherlock, and Replay. 

Then came the solo performances. Taemin was the first of the five to go and after a backstage kiss from Jonghyun, he felt like he could do anything. Taemin mesmerized the audience with his fluid and sharp dance moves as well as his smooth, and vastly improved voice. The rest of SHINee watched Taemin, beaming at how insanely good he was and how much he had grown. Jonghyun could watch Taemin dance forever. 

Jonghyun was next. All his nerves melted away as he began to sing his favorite type of solo piece, a ballad. This probably had to be one of the more difficult ones, but it also had an R&B feel to it. Jonghyun put his heart and soul into it and not only captivated the Shawols, but Taemin as well, from the very first note to the last. The ballad was so heartbreakingly beautiful, as usual, Jonghyun couldn’t help but cry at the emotion. Although he sang for his fans, he was really pouring his heart out to Taemin. 

After Jonghyun, it was Minho’s turn. No one could deny the amazing stage presence Minho had. He literally owned the stage during his performance. While he was not Taemin, Minho’s dance moves were also fluid, strong, powerful, and yet he also looked so graceful. Onew could not stop watching, he didn’t think he even blinked during the whole performance. Minho was just so incredibly good looking and an incredible performer. Onew often couldn’t believe that that guy was once the quietest and shyest among the members. Onew found himself blusing during the whole performance and didn’t come out of the trance until Key had nudged him, smirking, while strutting onstage for his solo performance. Onew knew that the whole taking off the shirt thing and being the “y” one wasn’t something that Minho was completely comfortable with, but it was true. To Onew, there was nothing and no one more breathtaking. 

Key was a riot as usual. Hilarious, fearless, and the whole performance was in English to top it all off. Like the rest of SHINee, Key took over the stage and the audience loved every moment. Jonghyun and Minho both gave Key a huge hug after his performance, telling him how awesomely funny it was. Key was really proud of himself, and all of his nights crying, all of the moments feeling sad and heartbroken were washed away by his performance and a text he received from Mir wishing him good luck. Key couldn’t help but smile and hug every one of s in excitement. Taemin was overjoyed that he and Key were close again. 

Lastly, SHINee’s leader. Onew walked out on stage. The crowd went crazy and his face was pictured on the giant screen behind him. Onew took a deep breath as the lighting for his performance began. Onew was singing a sweet ballad, definitely not as terribly tragic or sad as Jonghyun’s, but sweet and feathery light. Minho thought Onew’s voice sounded like a cloud. That was the only way to explain it. Minho just looked at his poised hyung, so perfect and serene on stage. He looked at happy and peaceful, but also excited and full of wonder, as if it was their first performance ever. He looked young, and everything he did,  a soft run, a smile, when he closed his eyes, everything made Minho’s heart flutter. Onew was precious. 

Time passed and it was the end of the concert. The members were supplied with backpacks full of rubber bouncy balls with their faces on them, wads of SHINee dollar bills, and a lot of water bottles. They started singing Bodyguard which made the fans go crazy. Jonghyun started it all off by pouring a cold water bottle on Taemin’s head, soaking his shirt and hair with ice cold water. Taemin then turned to get back at Jonghyun but ended up tripping in the puddle underneath his feet. Luckily, Onew was there to help him up. Taemin took Onew’s hand, stood up, and then proceeded to pour water down Onew’s back. Taemin then ran away and headed towards the orange backpack at the other end of the stage which held orange bouncy balls with Minho’s face on them. Taemin offered them to the audience and was interacting with fans in the front when Minho came and poured water on him. Minho ran away soon after, only to have water thrown right in his face by a sheepish looking Jonghyun. 

Key was happily skipping all over the place, throwing the pink bouncy balls with his face on them, and making it rain with SHINee money until Minho decided to target the only SHINee member that had not been soaked. Minho was handed a super soaker by one of the background dancers and went trigger happy, completely soaking Key’s back and hair. While running away from Key, Minho saw in the corner of his eye, Onew throwing the green bouncy balls with his face into the audience. His eyes sparkled and he was laughing that laugh that Minho wished he could hear every minute. Minho went up behind Onew and back hugged him, surprising Onew. Onew looked back and an insane fangirl got a snapshot of the two looking into each other’s eyes. She got shots of Minho embracing Onew from the back, Minho walking away, but Onew wanting to hold his hand, Minho looking back and making a cute face at Onew...etc.

With the concert ending successfully, the crazy fangirl with the wicked fast camera reflexes edited, filtered, and posted the pictures of Minho and Onew that she got. Soon they were circulating and fans began to freak out.

Fan conversations like this turned into fan art which then turned into fan-fictions and discussion boards began, tumblrs were created, fan videos were put up on youtube. 

The fans, while just fans, were right. There was an undeniable connection and chemistry between Onew and Minho and fans needed more.

A few months later, SHINee’s tour for that round of promotions was ending. Their last concert was in Seoul. The manager sat them down and talked about what would be extra special about the last concert. Duets. The manager thought it would highlight the compatibility between the members and the fans would eat it up. Jonghyun and Taemin were to do a duet together, Key and Taemin had a performance together, Minho and Key had one together, Jonghyun and Onew had one together, and lastly, Minho and Onew would be doing a duet together. All the members looked surprised when the manager said that Minho and Onew were going to do one together. That never happened. They never did fanservice let alone a duet. 

“Why Onew and Minho all of a sudden?” Jonghyun asked boldly. 

“They look good together.” The manager answered. 

Minho and Onew blushed madly. 

“I...uh...mean on stage. They look good together on stage. Both are handsome and yeah...on stage.” The manager struggled to correct himself so the rest of the group didn’t think he was shipping Onho, but Jonghyun, Key, and Taemin all smiled, knowing it was downright impossible to not ship. 

Onew couldn’t process what was going on. He couldn’t believe that it was finally happening. 

Lee Jinki, you are one lucky bastard. A performance with Minho. Finally.
