Not This Time

Shots!

I sat down on our couch after having done the gruelling task of moving things in to our new home. There were still a couple of boxes left but I was too tired and I didn’t want to go downstairs anymore. I rested my chin on my palm and looked straight ahead before releasing an exhausted sigh but it came out as a frustrated one.

I checked if I looked quite presentable before speaking. Wouldn’t want to be reminded of how terrible I would have looked like every time I see this. “You’re probably wondering what I’m doing here instead of just resting peacefully in our bedroom. I, Jessica Jung, is wondering, on the other hand, how I ended up in this position. Not that I’m complaining.”

“Well, it all started when I met Tiffany Hwang.” I sighed. “The girl that’s so superstitious, she needs to have a music player stitched onto her forehead that’ll play the Stevie Wonder’s song ‘Superstition’ every time she recites those ridiculous superstitious beliefs.”

---

I met Tiffany Hwang on my first year in college. She was a sophomore then but I soon found out that we’re born in the same year. She was just really studious so I wasn’t surprised any more that she skipped a year ahead of me. No big deal.

What really caught my attention though was her undeniable beauty. The intellectual part of her was just a bonus. I know that sounds so shallow but you don’t exactly go love at first sight and state “because of the person’s intellect” as a reason, do you? That’s total bull. It’s called “love at first sight” for a reason.

Tiffany Hwang, smart, beautiful and a body that’s to die for although mine’s not so bad as well. Ideal girl, right? Well, she’s my idea of a perfect girl so you can’t really blame me for giving her my full attention every time I see her.

Sooyoung, my tall best friend with an appetite similar to…wait, no. Scratch that. I’ve never actually seen any living thing eat like her. Well, she’s hit me dozens of time because according to her, I zone out every time Tiffany walks by and I smile like an idiot when she’s already out of sight. She’s also claiming that I don’t pay attention to her anymore and Tiffany’s all I think about.

I’m not going to deny that nor confirm it.

But enough about Choi Sooyoung and more on Tiffany Hwang. When I found out that she wasn’t dating anyone, it bothered me and I could only come up to the conclusion that she doesn’t want to date anyone because she’s too busy on her studies. But then I’ve heard she’s got tons of guys and girls asking her out on a date and she’s accepted a few but all of them could only stick around for one date.

At first I thought, she rejected them but then rumours started going around that they were all freaked out by her behaviour. What could possibly be so wrong about this angelic creature that everyone would not want to go on a second date with her?

I had to know so I spent months mustering up the courage to strike a whole minute of conversation with her but I still ended up embarrassing myself in front of Tiffany. It worked in my favour though plus I got to be at the receiving end of that smile that virtually no one would ever dare to dislike. Having a cut on my lip when I got hit by her locker was a small price to pay.

---

I leaned back as I reminisced our first date.

“It all went well really. I learned more about her. She had one younger sister and her name was Taeyeon but by now, you probably already know that. If you don’t, then she’s going to be pretty upset.”

I glanced at our room to see if both of them were still talking and Tiffany saw me. “Honey, can you make me a sandwich?”

She smiled at me and said, “Just a sec.”

I turned around and grinned triumphantly. She’s still guilty about what happened the other day which means I get to eat foods that I like all day. All I need to do was ask.

“She’s just so nice. What was I talking about again?”

I tilted to the side hoping that that gesture would remind me of it.

“Ah! Our first date. As I was saying everything went nice and smooth and so I was even more confused as to what happened to her previous dates but then again, maybe I was just too distracted by her face.”

---

I was too focused on watching every move she makes, how her lips moved every time she talked and how a person with hearing disability would probably be able to understand what she’s talking about just by looking at her face. Whatever feeling it is that she tried to convey, it’s all reflected by every inch of her face.

She started talking about other stuff but I wasn’t paying attention anymore right after she told me about her family and the things she do every day.

When I’ve finally gathered my thoughts to ask her about something, our meal arrived and for the first time on my life, I hated it. I hated the waiter that brought it to our table. Such great timing.

We started eating but I was momentarily halted when she held my hand and I couldn’t help but blush.

“Hey look, it’s a wishbone.”

I blinked. “A what?”

“A wishbone. Here,” she said as she handed me the other end of the Y-shaped bone. “Let’s break it and whoever gets the largest bit of bone, gets a wish.”

It wouldn’t hurt me if I did it so I nodded and she counted to three before we both pulled it.

“You get a wish.”

I looked at her bone and mine. She was right. Mine was bigger and it made me grin like an idiot. I pursed my lips and thought of a wish.

I could feel the heat creeping up my face that eventually made me look like a tomato. I wished to get a kiss by the time our date ends.

“What did you wish for?”

I shook my head in embarrassment. “Nothing.”

---

“I know you might be thinking that I was like a love-sick puppy wishing to get a kiss on our first date and actually believing that it will come true but come on, look at her.”

I moved sideways and turned my head to stare at her again. She was only clad in a simple shirt and jeans. She was also sweaty from constantly moving around since morning and yet I still find her stunningly gorgeous.

I went back to my previous position. “How do you expect me to not believe what she says about wishes coming true?”

---

I paid for our meal even though she insisted on splitting it and I offered to walk her back to her apartment. It’s a good thing we live in the same building.

I was still hoping to get that kiss since technically, our date isn’t over. I asked her if it was all right to just walk partly because I have no more money with me and I didn’t want her to pay for the cab. The other reason is to, you know, stall and spend more time with her, making our date last longer.

She agreed and I liked her even more because of that. All the other girls I’ve dated never wanted to walk home. The girl I dated last year dumped me because I told her that my dad changed his mind about giving me a car. That shallow bi—

I offered to carry her bag being the gentlewoman that I am. She refused at first but ended up giving in when I insisted. I noticed a familiar charm dangling from it. “Rabbit’s foot?”

She nodded.

“My best friend has one. That idiot actually believes it’ll bring her good luck if she carries it around. So far it hasn’t work and it probably won’t…” My voice trailed off when I see a small frown forming.

“Well, it won’t hurt if she believes in it.”

“Ah…yeah.” I scratched the back of my head and I felt like an insensitive jerk. She has a point. It wouldn’t hurt if she believes in something like that. I mean, she’s not harming other people by doing so. “Forget what I said. Maybe I should carry one with me too,” I said in hopes of getting rid of the awkward moment that I solely created.

It worked and her smile was there again. “I have lots of it. In different colours, too. I could give you one.”

“That sounds nice. I’d like a pink one so our rabbit’s foot would match.”

We continued walking and I wondered if this was the odd behaviour that the people were talking about. Personally, I don’t think going out on a date with someone who was superstitious was a deal breaker. Like she said, it doesn’t hurt anyone if she believed in good luck, bad luck and any other stuff.

I wasn’t paying attention to where I was going and I bumped into her when she suddenly stopped to pick up a penny. “They said picking up a penny brings good luck.”

“Oh,” was all I could say.

And it all came pouring in…the superstitions.

“Don’t walk under that ladder,” she said when we passed by a random ladder that was leaning on a wall of a house.

“Don’t look at the broken mirror. It’s bad luck,” she stated firmly when I tried checking out if my hair was a mess through a car’s side mirror that was broken.

We finally arrived in our building and I walked her up to her place. I saw a horseshoe having over her door. “I’m guessing that’s for good luck as well?” I asked as I handed her bag to her.

She nodded in response and unlocked her door. “I had fun having dinner with you, Jessica.”

“The feeling’s mutual, Tiffany.” I did not dare to stop chewing on my lip fearing that it would betray me. It’s not really nice to ask her for a kiss on our first date. It would be great if she does though.

Just when I was about to bid her goodbye, she spoke again and said, “Thank you for this great evening.”

My hope of getting that kiss was up for a second but then I told myself that I probably wouldn’t be getting any. It was fine though, there’s still a next time. I’m not stupid enough like those other fellows who backed out just because she believed those things. What a bunch of wimps!

---

“I was supposed to take my leave and curse the goddamn wishbone for not making my wish come true but then I felt her lips on my cheek! My right cheek to be exact.” I pointed my finger on my right cheek, careful not to touch it because it still hurts.

“I’m not going to lie and say I never thought she was a bit of a cuckoo because I’ve always she thought is a little bit effed up in that pretty head of hers but I can look past that.”

I look around to see if she was close enough to hear what I was going to say next. When I was sure she was out of earshot, I leaned forward and spoke quickly. “Her caring nature and kind heart makes up for her craziness and obsession with superstitions,” I cleared my throat and added, “And of course, …long hours of it.” I giggled even though I know she’d kill me for saying it.

“But there was one instance that almost made me end our relationship.”

---

“Tiff, for the nth time, I’m not going to give Short III away.”

Just to give you an idea of how important Short III is in my life, in my sister’s life, I’ll give you bits of information about this little fellow.

It was a rainy afternoon when my sister and I found this poor cat on the side of the street that we later on named Short I. The cat gave birth to three kittens but we only kept one and named her Short II. You see where I’m getting at, right? No? Short II gave birth to four cats and we decided to give away three of them. We kept Short III who, unlike itsgrandmother, had fur that’s as black as a skillet. How that happened, we have no idea. We don’t keep track of who our cats sleep with.

“Do you know why I can’t go to your house as often as you want me to? Because it’s b—“

“Bad luck if a black cat crosses your path. Yeah, yeah, you’ve told me that plenty of times. Look, you really need to stop it with the superstitions, Tiff. Or you could at least tone it down a little.”

Her furrowed eyebrows made me upset even more than I already am for some reason. I sighed. This was going to be the first of many times I was going to say this. “I don’t think this is going to work out, Tiff. We should just end this right now. I’m trying really hard to keep up with you and the things you want to believe in but I can’t.”

---

“I’ve lost count on how many times I’ve said that to her but I always end up crawling back to her. Pathetic, I know but what can I do? I love her. The superficial side of me would say I only get back with her because she’s hot as hell but…I don’t know, I guess a huge part of me knew that I’ll only be able to fall in love that hard if it was Tiffany Hwang. My Tiffany Hwang.”

I chuckled at how corny I sounded.

“So I asked my cousin, Sunny, to take care of Short III and according to her, we’re expecting little Short IV real soon so…yay!” I grinned but deep inside I was honestly praying to all the gods that she gives birth to kittens that don’t inherit her colour so I could take one home without any objections.

“The sixth time I tried breaking up with her using the same reason, she gave me the spare keys to her apartment so I wouldn’t disturb her sleep once I decided to beg for her to take me back.”

“Here’s your sandwich, baby,” she said, placing it on the coffee table before leaning in to give me a peck on the lips. Yeah, life’s good. “We only have two more boxes. Taengoo and I will take care of it so you just relax right here.”

“Are you sure? I could help if you want,” I asked trying to not sound so manipulative and abusive. I didn’t actually mean that last bit. I’m too tired to move but I know it’ll make her feel better if I asked. The benefit of being with another woman is you know what they want to hear from their partners.

She nodded and smiled at me sweetly, “Mm-hmm. That’s really sweet of you though.” Another kiss. See what I’m saying?

I took a bite of her delicious sandwich and placed my feet on the coffee table. I’ve wanted to do it since I sat here but I was afraid of getting caught. She dislikes it when I do this.

“You must be wondering why I have her palm imprinted on my right cheek. Well, it’s the story I’ve been itching to tell you but I had to make an introduction and explain why and how I got married to one heck of a crazy woman.” Then, I remembered how mad she gets when I call her crazy. “A crazy but an oh-so-caring, beautiful inside and out, woman.”

---

It was two weeks before Tiffany’s graduation and I was feeling down not only because I wouldn’t be able to see her that often anymore once she graduates but also because I was worried that we might drift apart. I don’t know what I’ll do with myself if that indeed happens.

So I went back home to my dad being the daddy’s girl that I am. I feel more comfortable saying my rants to my dad. With my mom, she just listens and I feel guilty on burdening her but with dad, it’s different.

“You could just ask her to live with you, no? That way, you’d still be able to see her often.”

“Dad, we live in the same building and that wasn’t what I meant. I’m worried that she might be too caught up at work or you know, she could be asked out by other people and she mi—“

“You don’t trust her? I’m telling you right now that if you don’t trust her, just end everything. Trust means a lot.”

“I do trust her. I’m just afraid that she’d end up changing her mind about me, about us and I’m well aware that that’s possible.”

He laughed and hit my shoulder a little too hard. I can’t say I’m not used to it though. I’m daddy’s little girl but he treats me like a son. “You can’t do anything about that then. It’s not like you could stop her from changing her mind, well, you can but if she really is determined that she doesn’t want you anymore, you pretty much can’t do anything about it. So why stress about something like that?”

“But, Dad,” I whined, “I really don’t want to lose her. I couldn’t even sleep because the mere thought of not having her in my life scares me.”

“Aigoo,” he sighed and pulled on my ear.

“Ouch!” I yelped in pain as I tried to get away from him. “Why would you even—who does that to their own daughter?”

“What are you waiting for?” he asked.

“Huh?”

He shook his head and I honestly had no idea where our conversation was leading to. “When you told us that you wanted to date girls, do you remember what I said?”

I nodded and repeated what he told me, trying hard to imitate his voice, “Goodbye to my dreams of having a son. Your sister’s probably gay too. Don’t think I don’t know what you’ve been up to, Krystal.”

“Besides that.”

I tried to think about it but that’s all I could remember.

“What was I trying to achieve from expecting you’d remember the things I told you?” he asked rhetorically. “I told you that if you’ve found the girl that you want to spend the rest of your life with, you should just go for it. Let’s face it, you’re both girls. She’s probably expecting to get a proposal and I bet you’re thinking about the same thing. If that happens, then where would your relationship go?”

“I don’t get it.” I honestly had no idea what he was talking about.

“How did I end up having such a dim-witted child? I remember raising you well.”

I would like to be mad at him every time he throws an insult about me being stupid but I know my dad well enough to know that speaking like that is a way of showing affection. I should probably tell Tiffany that I inherited that from him.

“If you can’t really live without her and you know she’s the one then go ahead and propose to her.”

“Dad, we’re not ready to get married yet.”

“You idiot, who said anything about getting married right away? I see people being engaged for a year or two before tying the knot. I’m just saying that if it’ll give you a sense of security then, you should go ahead and do it.”

“What if she says no? I mean, she might think it’s too early for that. We’ve been dating for two years but that might not be enough for her.”

He ruffled my hair and smiled. “Then you could just come back here and your mom, Krystal and I would help your sorry little get over it.”

I stood up and dialled her number, telling her to meet me up at my parent’s house. I was going to do what my dad said and take the risk of getting rejected.

---

“It was nothing fancy really. I just asked her to marry me right outside our house. Krystal, my mom and my dad were all on the other side of the door eavesdropping. I didn’t even have a ring with me.”

I played with the ring that’s hanging around my neck. It now serves as a pendant after wearing it on my left hand for three years.

“But as it turned out, Tiff was also planning on proposing to me after her graduation ceremony. She picked up the ring before going to my house.”

I scratched the back of my head as my face flushed in remembering how embarrassing it was on my part.

---

She stared at me for quite a long time and I swear it felt like an eternity. She looked down and opened her bag, bringing out a small velvet box.

She opened it and held it up, revealing a silver ring with an ‘I-don’t-know-nor-do-I-care-how-many’ carat diamond on the centre making my jaw drop on the floor.

“Oh my god, Tiff…I feel so emasculated right now.”

“Aww, please don’t,” she immediately hugged me and kisses my ear. “I honestly was planning to do it for quite some time now.” She kissed my nose and pulled away.

“Okay, fair enough. I just decided on doing it an hour ago when my dad told me to.”

“So…I’m guessing you proposing to me means yes?”

“What? No way. I asked you first.”

“But I have a ring and you don’t,” she retaliated.

“Unnie, she has a point.” I heard Krystal said.

“What can I do when even my own family member takes your side?”

“Jessica, you idiot. Just say yes and stop blabbering.” That was my dad.

Tiffany grinned triumphantly and all I could do was nod. She slid the ring on my finger and pulled me in for another hug. Every detail of that moment was engraved in my mind and I don’t think anything could ever make me forget about it…except of course when I get old and suffer Alzheimer’s or bump my head and end up having amnesia. I’m just being realistic.

---

“You’d think that three years of being engaged with her would mean that planning our wedding and the wedding itself would be a walk in the park but it was the total opposite. There was a lot of disagreeing on her part because of all these wedding superstitions. It’s like she compiled all of it, memorized it and wrote it down just so she won’t miss anything and our wedding won’t be ‘doomed’ or whatever.”

I drank the juice she prepared along with my sandwich before continuing.

“But that was fine. I told her that I was going to leave it to her to decide although we did agree to have a beach wedding just so we and our guests could relax before and after the big day.”

---

“Jess, I’m gonna need you to move to another room,” she said a day before our wedding day.

“WHAT?”

“It’s bad luck,” she nonchalantly said.

This was so not happening right now. Is she kidding me? I want to be with her tonight, why the heck do I have to move to another room? WHY?

“Tiff, please stop it with the superstitions just for tonight. Please,” I plead desperately.

“No, Jessica Jung. Move your . I also want to get a good night sleep and I know you and your needs.”

Dammit.

“Honey, please,” I said, adding tons of aegyo but it didn’t work. She just gently pushed me towards the door and even opened it for me.

“I’ve talked to Soo and she said she’s fine sharing a room with you tonight. See you tomorrow, baby.”

She pecked my lips before shoving me outside and slamming the door.

“Dammit.”

---

“But being the sneaky and persistent person that I am, I decided to do something about it.”

“Hey, why aren’t you helping us, lazyass?” I looked over my shoulder and saw Taeyeon fixing her messed up bangs. “Heeey, I still look awesome even though I’m sweating like there’s no tomorrow.”

“Come sit with me, lovely sister-in-law.” She hopped over the couch instead of going around and sitting on it like a normal person would.

“What’s this?”

“Story telling.”

“Oh, about what?”

“About you,” I answered sarcastically. “It’s about Tiffany and me, of course.”

“Did I miss the fun part?”

“No, you’re just in time.”

“You’re going to tell the story about that slap? Oh god, I love that story. This will never get old,” she exclaimed, a little too much for my liking. It’s like everyone thinks I deserve getting this palm-shaped print on my cheek.

“So as I was saying…”

---

I went down at the lobby to ask the receptionist for a spare key, giving them the excuse that I forgot mine and that I wouldn’t want to wake up my fiancé by knocking. Of course, that worked perfectly well.

I thanked the manager and made my way towards our bed stealthily. I looked at the clock and smiled. 2 am. Today was going to be one of the most memorable days in both of our lives.

What better way to start the day than to show her just how much I love her, right? I went to the bed side table and snatched key before going outside again, not forgetting to lock the door.

I know Tiffany’s a er for anything that’s cheesy and romantic. I also know that if there’s anything that she likes getting from me the most, it’d be a rose.

After she graduated, she was immediately hired by a company which meant lesser time with me so I made an effort to remind her every single day that she was always on my mind.

For a whole year, I woke up earlier than I usually would to buy a single rose and go straight to her office. I’ve also made an effort to befriend an employee who goes there and asked him to put the rose on Tiffany’s desk.

I did that ‘til I graduated and realized that waking up early to do that was worth it every time I receive a voice message or a simple text from her. There were times when she would come over after work and hang out with me at my apartment. We’d both fall asleep on the couch and I’d wake up early, side effect from doing it plenty of times is that my body eventually got used to it. I’d struggle to carry her to my bed and let her sleep for a few more hours and I’d go about my daily routine before waking her up.

I returned to our room with a rose that I bought from the 24/ flower shop down at the lobby. I carefully lay down beside her, propping myself up with the use of my elbow. “Honey, wake up.”

No response. “Tiff, honey, wake up.” I heard her groan and I can’t really blame her, I wanted to sleep too but I’ve already put too much effort in spending a few hours with her to just back out and sleep.

“Baby, come on. Please wake up.”

“Jess, what are you doing here? Didn’t I tell you to sleep in Soo’s room?” she said groggily, eyes were still closed.

“But I don’t want to share a room with Soo. I want to share a room with you. I want to be in the same bed with you and right now I just really, really…REALLY want to start this day right and make love to the woman that I’m going to spend the rest of my life with,” I stated sweetly.

“Aww, honey.” She turned around and faced me while she rubbed the sleepiness out of her eyes.

Success!

---

“Why are you such a horn dog, Jessica?” Taeyeon asked.

“I am not. I did not do all of that just so I could have with her.”

“Bull.”

I gasped at her reaction. Why do people keep thinking that I did it out of lust?

“I’m telling the truth.”

“Whatever.”

---

Just when I thought she’s finally agreed, she spoke again.

“Honey, you know we can’t. We need to rest and you’re not even supposed to be here.”

I continued whining while she showered my face with kisses convincing me to leave and to sleep at my best friend’s room.

“But you’ve been so busy these past few weeks and I miss you so much. I even bought you this,” I said as I help up the rose.

I can see her defences crumbling down.

“Jess…it’s bad luck.”

I gently pushed her on her back and hover on top of her. “Not this time, baby. I won’t let you use that thing with me right now.”

I leaned in to kiss her lips and it didn’t take too long for her to kiss back. “I love you, Tiff,” I said as I pulled away and began ing her shirt revealing her—

---

“Whoa, whoa, whoa! Hold the fµck up! You’re talking about my sister here,” Taeyeon yelled.

“So?”

“You can’t do that while I’m here.”

“Why not?”

“Would you like it if I told you about me and Krystal that way?”

I was taken aback and I swear my vision was going black. “What the hell do you mean by that?”

I was glaring at her and she literally just sat still, avoided my gaze and tried to change the topic. “Just continue what you were saying and skip to the part where she slapped you. Geez!”

I decided to let it go for now.

---

I woke up a few hours after having made love to her. I was still sleepy but I got up and put my clothes on to check if everything was going well and to make sure we’d avoid as much hiccup as possible today. She was supposed to do all these but I don’t have the heart to wake her up after tiring her out so I just let her sleep.

I was already dialling the wedding planner’s number but then her alarm went off. So much for that plan.

I straddled her and waited for her to fully wake up. “Good morning, Tiff,” I greeted.

I wasn’t expecting the reaction that I got though.

“YAH!” she screamed at the top of her lungs before sitting up and slapping me right across the face. It felt like I got hit with an iron. Not the ones that you plug in but those ones that you have to put coal inside it. The heavier ones that were used by people before the electric iron got invented.

“WHAT THE FU—“

“You’re not supposed to be here!”

“That’s not what you said a few hours ago while you were screaming my name and telling me to go fa—“

“YAH! Get out!”

I could only pout as I got off her and clutch my stinging cheek. “You didn’t have to slap me so hard and don’t start acting like you didn’t like it.”

She looked down to hide her blush and I wish she didn’t not only because I would’ve loved to see her pink-tainted cheeks but also because I know how she’d react if she sees the red marks just below her collarbone.

“Oh my god, JESS!”

I quickly ran for my life before she could land another slap on my face.

---

“You deserved that slap.”

I reached for her and tried to strangle the life out of her but the shorty was just so agile.

“Go away and help Tiffany.”

“What kind of spouse are you?” she spat out. “How Krystal survived with a sister like you boggles my mind and how she didn’t end up like you makes me want to thank all the stars above.”

She left the room and it left me wondering what’s really happening between her and my sister.

---

“You know better than to defy her and her superstitions,” said Sooyoung as we both stand there, waiting for the ceremony to start. I asked her to be my ‘best man’ which was probably a mistake.

“That’s going to form a bruise you know. Remind me to never go on her bad side,” she added.

“I’m so going to get a divorce after this.”

“You know you could just back out now.”

“We’ve already paid for everything.”

“But getting a divorce would cost you tons of money too.”

I huffed and glared at her. “I’m still going to file a divorce.”

My sister walked towards us holding a concealer. “Unnie, stop smudging the concealer with your hand. God! I’m tired of retouching every five seconds and no, you’re not going to file a divorce just because she slapped you. If you’re going to do something like that then all of us wouldn’t even be her in the first place. I doubt that years of being with her would be thrown out of the window just because of a simple slap.”

“SHE SLAPPED ME REAL HARD!”

“Yeah, we all noticed that when we walked into Sooyoung-unnie’s room so we could get you prepped up. It was your fault. You also should’ve known better than to leave hickeys there. You know very well what kind of dress she was wearing today.”

I did. She was going to wear a beautiful strapless dress that would also reveal her back and her shoulder blades.

“Hyoyeon-unnie, the make-up artist, was also ticked off because you just doubled her work. It’s not easy covering those marks, you know.”

“She still slapped me. Ouch!” I screamed in pain when she pressed her hand a little too hard on the stinging part.

“You deserved it.”

---

“That’s the last one,” Tiffany said as she plopped herself next to me and rested her head on my shoulder.

I kissed the top of her head and her arms. “Where’s Taeyeon?”

“She already left. She said she was meeting up with someone.”

“Hmm.”

She held my hand and kissed it. It one of the many things that she does that still makes butterflies appear on my tummy no matter how many times she’s done it. “Does your cheek still hurt?”

“Yes.”

She sat up and stared at me with that cute expression of hers that never fails to make me smile. It was a cross between a worried expression, her eyebrows creased upwards making lines appear on her forehead and a cute one where she pouts her lips and puff her cheeks.

She gently my cheek and kissed it.

I grinned and said, “I think when you slapped me the other day, your finger also grazed my lip a little bit, see here,” I pointed at the corner of my lower lip, “there’s a small cut right there that’s almost unnoticeable.”

“Stop making me feel guilty and just ask for a kiss.”

“I want a kiss. N.O.W.”

She nodded and it got me excited but as expected, she left me high and dry by giving a small peck on the lips.

“No fair.”

“That’s for almost dropping the ring when I told you so many times to be careful not to.”

“It’s your fault for telling me that. It made me nervous and my hands got clammy. I didn’t drop it though.”

“I was just reminding you that it’s bad luck.”

“I really don’t care if I’m the first one to die if I drop the ring, you know.”

She hit my shoulder and frowned. “Yah, don’t say something like that.”

I tried to reach for the coffee table and knocked on it. “Happy?” It was one of those ridiculous superstitions again. As if knocking on wood would prevent things from happening but I did it anyways just for her.

She hit my head this time.

“The heck was that for?”

“For your weird vow that almost made my dad shoot you with his gun. It was a good thing I convinced him not to bring it.”

I chuckled when I remembered Mr. Hwang abruptly standing up when I included in my vow that I was going to file a divorce after the ceremony.

---

“I, Jessica Jung, will promise to love you and only you for as long as I live. I’ll probably get a divorce after this if you don’t make up for this hand print that you gave me and by making up, I mean staying in the bed all day doing you-know-what.”

I heard my dad cursing under his breath and saw Mr. Hwang being held back by her daughter, Taeyeon.

---

“He knows I’m just kidding.”

“Whatever,” she paused and tilted her head to the side, “I didn’t notice that camera right there earlier, what were you doing?”

“Making a video journal. You know how people write journals, right? I was too lazy to write or even to type it so I decided to record myself. I thought it’d be nice if our future kid could watch it so he or she would know how helplessly in love I am with you.”

“That is so corny. It’s making me cringe. I guess that slap really shook your brain, huh?”

I frowned. “I’ve always been corny.”

She chuckled and situated herself on my lap. “You say that like it’s a good thing.”

“It isn’t?”

She didn’t answer and started kissing my neck instead. “I’m not going to let our kid watch that ‘til he or she becomes fifteen.”

“Why not?”

“Jess, I know you. Most of the things that come out of your mouth is rated PG-15 and up.”

“That’s not entirely true.”

“Yeah, right.” I playfully pat her behind and placed my other hand on her waist.

“We should totally take a shower.”

“We should,” she answered and stood up, pulling me with her. I completely forgot to turn the camera off and it pretty much recorded all the sounds we made which were somehow drowned out by the sound coming from the shower. That was mostly my voice though. Tiff’s voice was still loud enough to be heard all throughout.

---

“OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD! Please turn it off. I beg of you,” said a fourteen year old girl who was sitting between Tiffany and Jessica, eyes shut and both hands covering her ears.

Tiffany reached for the remote control but struggled to find the right button to push while Jessica was just laughing her head off.

“Oh my god, mom, how could you marry such a sick woman?” their daughter named Yoona asked Tiffany as she clung to her mother like a koala.

Tiffany glared at her wife who now had tears on her eyes from laughing too hard. “Jess, it’s not funny.”

“Oh come on, it’s kind of funny. Plus, it’s not my fault. You pulled me before I could even turn it off.”

Yoona glared at her and it reminded her of her younger sister. “Aunt Taeyeon and Aunt Krystal are going to hear about this.”

“As if those two could even be bothered,” she said bitterly. Krystal and Taeyeon have been married for two years but she still couldn’t get over the fact that Taeyeon went behind her back to date her younger sister. “They’re too busy planning their honeymoon, AGAIN! Just how many times do they have to go on a honeymoon, seriously?”

“I knew I shouldn’t have trusted you and let Yoona watch this.”

“Oh come on, honey. You know you loved it and you felt like a teenager having her first crush when you heard what I said about me being a love-sick puppy,” Jessica taunted.

“Mom, make her stop,” Yoona pleaded.

“I’m going to take that as a cue to start the video journal about our first honeymoon.”

She snatched the remote control from Tiffany and her wife and daughter stood up.

“Come on, Yoong. Let’s go to the mall and leave that erted mother of yours.”

“Oh, you two are no fun.”

Later that day, Jessica received a phone call from her dad telling her to get her ready for a serious beating.

Yoona could only smile widely for getting her sweet revenge after having her mind corrupted by her own mother.

The End.

Chapter 17: haha, Taeyeon deserves it. I get what she means but that whole mindset leads you to the chance of cheating. So I love that Krystal is teaching her a lesson. lol. Fun.
