Didn't Stand a Chance

    Kris woke up to an empty bed, and he rolled over, eyeing the clock on the bedside table with bleary eyes. It was 11AM on a Sunday, and his wife was nowhere in sight. He threw on a pair of loose-fitting sweatpants and a tshirt before padding barefoot into the living room. The sight in front of him immediately brought a lazy smile to his face.   Jae-in was sitting on the plush carpet, back against the leather couch, absentmindedly petting the dog sleeping near her feet. As Kris watched, she leaned down and picked up a yellow crayon, before handing it to the little boy lying on his stomach in front of her.
