Let's start!!

~*~ Game 1 ~*~

“His father is a boss. He himself is handsome and clever, always winning the favor among girls.”

This is the way people around think of me. To be honest, I have no question with their comments. But in these 10 years, never have I savored the taste of victory in any single match with this girl.

“Ji-eun.” I stood outside, watching the city lights. She turned and looked at me with a staid facial expression. “… Let’s bid for the final victory.”

Then here comes the final game.

Ten Years Ago }

“Wooyoung! Annyeong!!”

“Annyeong Wooyoung!”

“Annyeong Wooyoung-ah!”

Wooyoung smiled to all of his primary school friends who greeted him, as he walked by.

“We’ll have a football match against the guys from the classroom next door. Will you come?” One boy eagerly ran up to Wooyoung. “Winning will be a sure thing if you join us.”

“Emm~” Another boy tried to use his aegyo. “Come with us~”

“Mian, I have to attend cram school today.” Before Wooyoung headed inside the classroom, he turned back to the two of them, “You guys better spend some time studying.”

Once Wooyoung placed his bag at his desk, two girls approached him.

“Anneyong Wooyoung-ah~ I saw your father on TV yesterday,” one of the girls squealed.

Another chimed in, “He is called the King of Hotel. Daebak~ I hope I can have a stay in such a beautiful hotel.”

Wooyoung haughtily stated, “That was the promotion for the newly opened hotel in Singapore.”

“Singapore?!” the two girls exclaimed in unison.

“Class, be seated,” the teacher announced. Once the students settled down, she began the class. “I’ll now return your test papers. Come get your paper when your name is called.”

The whole class complained as they failed or barely passed once they got their paper back.

When Wooyoung's name was called, he walked up to the teacher and she smiled brightly. “Here you are, Jang Wooyoung. Nice job again.”

“Gomawoyo,” he replied complacently, as he retrieved his 'as usual' perfect-scored paper.

“Daebak! Once again, you are the only one who got full marks,” one of the kids exclaimed in envy.

Taking his seat, Wooyoung scoffed, “Of course. Who do you think I am?”

The kid clasped his hands, as he looked off into the distance. “Wow~ I feel it’s a matter of course when he speaks such offending words~!”

Now that I think of it, primary school was in fact the prime of my life. My appa is the president of large resort hotels. I’m always on the top of my class, and champion in all sport meetings. Not to mention, countless times, I’ve been invited by talent scouts.

Flashback~

“Any interest in becoming a star, cool boy?” a man in a black suit asked, as he handed Wooyoung a paper.

Shooing him away, Wooyoung walked away. “I have no intention to sell myself for a cheap price.”

~End Flashback

I was just like the king! Then… that girl appeared.

A small girl with straight bangs and double braids stood in front of the class.

“This is the transfer student, Lee Ji-eun,” the teacher announced. “Let’s welcome our new classmate.”

With an expressionless face, she looked at the class. “Nice to meet you all.”

Wooyoung rested his chin on the palm of his hand. Nothing special. She looks gloomy, very poor, and like she grew up in the lower-class.

This was my first impression of her.

However…

One day, the teacher smiled to the class. “Well, here are the results of the test you did a few days ago. This test seemed a little bit difficult, and only one student got full marks.”

As Wooyoung stood up from his seat to accept his perfect test, he smirked as he heard the class mutter, “It’s Wooyoung. It should be Wooyoung.”

“Here you are Wooyoung.” Once he walked to the front of the class, the teacher handed him his paper. “You were so close~”

His eyes widened when he saw the 98% written in red ink at the top corner of his paper. Bwo?! Not me this time? Then, who-

“Wha~ Ji-eun-ssi got a perfect score!!” one of the kids exclaimed.

Shocked, Wooyoung turned to face the crowd of kids that began to surround the girl.

“Jinjja?!” a kid asked, astounded. “Daebak!”

Ji-eun looked at her classmates with a straight face. “No big deal.”

“The 50 meter sprint test will now begin. Everybody line up,” the PE teacher announced.

I should calm down. That must’ve been a coincidence. Stretching, Wooyoung tried to calm his nerves. Ne, how could I fall behind that not eye-catching girl?

“Ready~” The teacher placed his whistle in his mouth.

With determination flowing through Wooyoung's whole body, he stood behind the line. Focus. Number one is definitely me!! Go!!!

The teacher began to read off the times. “Wooyoung-ssi, 7.8 seconds. ***-ssi, 8.9 seconds.”
Mianhe, I couldn’t think of a name keke

“Daebak! Wooyoung-ah ran faster than before,” one girl squealed.

Straightening up his posture, Wooyoung haughtily laughed, “Ha ha ha, of course.”

Surprised, the teacher continued to read, “Wha~! Ji-eun, 7.4 seconds.”

Wooyoung's eyes shot towards the crowd of kids surrounded that girl once again. B- Bwo?

“Cool!” The girl that was admiring Wooyoung, now ran with the crowd. "How did you do it?”

Another kid exclaimed, “Someone can run faster than Wooyoung… Unbelievable!”

Again, Ji-eun looked at the class with a straight face. “No big deal.”

Wooyoung's blood began to boil. How… How could this happen?!!

“Yah~ That girl!” Wooyoung stomped towards Ji-eun.

She looked up at him, as she stopped packing her bag.

“You’re just a transfer student. Don’t be so arrogant!” He pointed at her. “You just got several good marks by accident. Don’t get carried away.”

After a moment of looking at him, she put on her bag and began to walk away.

“Pabo…” He officially snapped. “How can you treat me like this?! I’m the successor of Jang’s resort, and the son of the president.”

“I don’t care if you’re the son of the president or what.” She stopped walking, and faced him. “That just shows the success of your appa. It doesn’t mean you’re excellent too. Jalgayo (Goodbye).”

She left the class feeling stunned.

One of the students muttered, “She’s talented, but… scary.”

B- Bwo?!

Wooyoung was at home, having dinner with his family. “Umma, I want to have more classes by tutor and cram school.”

His mom looked at him surprised. “No problem, hajiman what happened? Ang Ang, don’t you have good grades at school?”

The house maid also looked at him surprised as well. “Exactly, young master.”

He remained quiet, as he gritted his teeth.

Junhwa, Wooyoung's older sister, whispered to her mom, “He was beaten by a transfer student in an exam.”

“Omo!” The mom covered in shock.

Wooyoung stabbed his steak.

Looking at all the textbooks open on his desk, Wooyoung began to go through all of them. That arrogant girl. I won’t lose to her again!

The next morning, Wooyoung began to drag his feet to school. Umm… My head feels dizzy. Hajiman, I have to go to cram school… cram school… Ah! Damn… All he saw was darkness.

This is… the sound of a pencil…?

“Omo, you’re awake,” the expressionless Ji-eun said in her typical monotone voice.

“Ehh?!” Wooyoung quickly sat up from a bed. “Bwo? Where am I?”

“I saw you sleeping on the road, so I brought you home. This is my place. It’s 6 now.”

Why is it her of all people… “I’d better go home.” His face turned bright pink once his stomach began to growl.

“As for supper, I can only cook simple dishes like friend rice.”

“Bwo?” He watched her, as she put her apron on.

She began to walk out of the room. “And you’d better call your family to pick you up. The telephone is on top of the cabinet.”

“Telephone…” he mumbled. “I have my own cellphone.”

He began to look around, and spotted a few pictures with Ji-eun sitting on her mom’s lap. Her mom was smiling brightly. What a small place. “You cook by yourself? Where are your parents?” he asked, as he stayed seated in the bedroom.

“Umma has to work and comes back very late,” she replied from the kitchen.

“What about your appa?”

“I live in a single-parent family. Appa died in an accident when I was very little.”

“Mian…” He began to feel sorry for her. When he looked at the table, he stared at the notebook she was scribbling on while he was passed out. He tilted his head in confusion. “Don’t you… Don’t you attend cram school or something?”

Placing the two plates of food down onto the table, she looked at him plainly. “Aniyo. I don’t have extra money.”

His eyes widened. “So you must love studying a lot?”

“Not really.”

“Then why do you work so hard?”

“Well…” She looked at the picture of her sitting on her mom’s lap. “Umma works late every day to raise me, no matter how tired she is, even through harsh times, so I want to grow up and be independent as soon as possible; to let umma live a better life.”

The fried rice Ji-eun cooked was delicious. For the first time ever, I felt like being defeated by someone. Later, umma and the maid drove to pick me up, but I was feeling disgraceful. I dismissed all tutors and cram school classes the moment I got home. Umma and appa were confused, but I was determined to win her with my own strength.

“You want to get into yumyeonghan middle school?” the teacher asked Wooyoung, as he sat in her office. She giggled, “Well, it should be easy for you.”
The literal interpretation is the famous middle school... Neomu mianhe for the lack of creativity ;~;

“Bwo? Of course, but that’s not my point,” Wooyoung stated. “If I can’t gain higher marks than Ji-eun, everything would be meaningless.”

“Is it? But I remember that Ji-eun isn’t in the exam group…”

His eyes widened. He quickly exited the office, and ran to the front of the school, hoping to catch her.

How was it? Was it better than what you expected it to be?? I hope so! keke I apologize once again for the lack of creativity I have shown in naming things... I was really stumped as to what to name everything ahaha It's one of the main reasons why I didn't post the first chapter earlier! xp Also, do you want to know what I've been up to? Chapter 15: Ooh this story seems really interesting. I've only recently gotten to know about the Milky Couple, and I am absolutely in love with this pair. You write really well, and this story vaguely reminds me of Special A (it's a manga/anime). If you choose to continue this story, I'd eagerly read it through.
Keep up the great work! :)
