Chapter 1
Melting A Vampire's HeartNew York, US
You wake up to the sound of pouring rain and lightly rub both of your eyes.
Checking the time on your digital alarm clock beside your bed, you see that it is
already 9 in the morning, so you make your way to the bathroom to clean up
and take a shower. Then, you head to the kitchen, hungry and hunting for
ingredients to make your breakfast.
For almost 2 months now, you have been living alone in your small but
comfortable apartment after your parents went overseas to expand their
business. Your older brother, Changmin is studying abroad and only visits you
once a year. Thankfully, your family did not just abandon you to fend for
yourself though, like some businessmen you know and their children. Your
parents send money back to you every month to buy your daily necessities.
*Oh well,* you sigh as you tiredly stir some pancake batter, *looks like I’ll be
studying in a new school soon*
#Flashback: Last Night#
Before you went to bed, your phone started ringing. You picked it up and
glanced at the screen.
You smiled immediately, seeing that it was your Umma calling.
You really miss her alot, and even though you would never admit it to her, you
especially miss all the embarrassing times when she called you her ‘Baby Girl’...
“Yoon Mi-ah~” your mother’s familiar voice buzzed through the speakers.
“How are you? Have you been doing well?”
“Ne umma, I have been doing well,” you replied firmly, noting the
concern in her voice. You felt a little sad because you hadn’t been hearing it
lately. “What about you and appa?” you asked.
“Ahh Don’t worry about us, we are doing fine here in
Paris.” your mother paused, then continued on excitedly, “Oh we have
good news for you! Big news! Big -- but good!” You could
imagine her smiling so wide that her jaw would hurt the next morning. “it
seems that you have been accepted into SM Academy in
Korea! It’s a full paid scholarship -- Yoon Mi-ah,
congratulations!”
“Uh, thanks...?” You didn’t remember applying for a scholarship, but
you guess it was your parents who did it for you.
“They sent a letter to umma this afternoon saying that
they will assign someone to pick you up at the airport.
He will take you over to the school too. His name is,
uh.. what was his name again?” Over the phone, your mother
racked her brain as you stayed silent. “Su... Su-sshi?” *SUSHI?!* “No
no no... Uh... SUHO! That’s right! His name is Suho!”
“Ahh~ Suho. Okay.” You said out loud, trying to lock the name in your
head, so that you wouldn’t forget it when you reached Korea.
“Your flight is booked for the day after tomorrow, okay
Baby Girl?”
“UMMA~!” You whined when she called you that, but secretly, your smile grew
wider.
“Arraso, arraso.” Your mom laughed. “Pack well and have a
safe flight, okay?”
“Alright.”
“I love you! Appa also!”
You chimed in reply, “Love you guys too, umma!”
After agreeing to call your mother when you reach SM Academy, you both
ended the call with a ‘good night.’
#Present#
You fry your pancakes, at the same time wondering how schooling in South
Korea is like.
Language won’t be a problem, you’re sure. Because even though your family
moved to the US when you were a baby, your parents had made you speak only
your mother-tongue whenever you were at home.
You know quite a lot about the culture, but still, you are worried. You hope your
new schoolmates will be kind and understanding...
