Fiction and Fact

Because Fiction and Fact was such a high profile drama, the press buzz around it was huge. TTV was going to air an episode a week on Sunday night at 10:00PM, ending at 11:30PM. It was the best time slot for Taiwanese dramas and definitely the most competitive.

The trailer for the drama was released about a week in advance. The production team was carefully monitoring the feedback through social media and so far, the response had been positive. Although it was just a short three minute teaser, people seemed excited to see more of the adaptation and cinematography.

The others channels also appeared to have given up on competing in this time slot, and had filled their Sunday nights with low budget dramas in order to maximize profits instead of viewership.

“Preemptive damage control,” Produce Hu said, looking please with himself.

The first week was a double feature. The first two episodes were being released back as a special event before returning to one a week. It was a premier screening, the kind usually designated for movie releases. There was going to be a press conference right before the airing, after which press and many prominent names in the entertainment industry were invited to watch the first two episodes. Almost everyone who had worked on the show in any way was going to be there.

I couldn’t go as Lin Ye, the writer, of course, but I had been given access as Lin Yejing, one of the screen writers. I also was able to invite Andi.

“Tell me your friend’s dress size,” Terry said immediately. “I’m going to make sure that you two are the best dressed girls at that screening. Oh and tell your agent that I’ll be your coordinator. Nana has her own coordinators to dress her, but no one will be as good as me.”

I had seen only Lu Han twice since we got back from Thailand. He had been acting a little weird still. More distant than usual, but not enough for me to call him out on it. He would hover around me, as if wanting to be close by, but he would be less talkative than before. That was fine with me, because I was also trying to figure out how I should act around him, now that I had accepted that I did have romantic feelings for him.

I talked to Terry about it, and he told me that I should just tell Lu Han how I felt. I was going to have to work with him again in the future for a season two of the show, most likely. If I kept my feelings bottled inside, it would just get weird. At least if I told him, I could get closure. If he didn’t feel the same way, then we could just be friends. I just had to at least let him know how I felt.

“That would be the brave thing to do,” I agreed.

But was I brave enough?

Andi flew into Taiwan two days before the event. I got to take another short break from writing to show her around a bit. My editors certainly didn’t mind, since I had written more in the past week than I had for months. It was better material too, just overall a step up in quality.

The dresses that Andi and I were fitted for were both worth a lot more than anything else we owned. However, we did not have to pay for them because they were sponsored. We were just told to return the dresses in perfect condition, or else Kevin would murder us. Terry helped pick out the dresses and the accessories, and one of his friends did our makeup and hair for free.

“What future lawyer can say that they got this experience?” Andi asked, b with excitement. “I feel like a royalty or something.”

“I’ll invite you as my quest to the premier of the second season too,” I promised. It had been months since I had gotten to see my best friend in person so her visit put me in a great mood.

“I’m holding you to that,” extending her hand for a pinky promise.

The dress that I was wearing was a truly red carpet worthy piece, a creamy white color that was slimming around the waist. I wore black heels, and golden accessorie
