Chapter Four

As the teacher was doing roll call, Yoona found herself constantly glancing over at Taecyeon’s seat. It had been several days now and he still had not shown up for school. Yoona couldn’t help but feel a little worried. She asked the teacher to be excused to the restroom to clear her mind. As Yoona was walking back from the restroom, she noticed a familiar figure at the lockers in the distance. It was Taecyeon. A sense of relief hit her. She then walked up and leaned against the lockers as he was rummaging through his belonging.

“You never told me why you stole from the ajumma,” Yoona stated.

“Since when do I have to do what you tell me?” Taec snidely replied.

“Well, we’re partners for the service project now. It’d be nice to know in advance if I need to buy a taser or pepper spray. Who knows, I might be your next victim.” Yoona’s statement had sarcasm written all over it.

“You’re a girl. You should definitely carry some type of defense weapon with you anyways.”

“Umm, okay? So where have you been?”

“What’s it to ya?” Taec responded with a smirk. “Do you like me or something?”

“Psht! No! Mainly curiosity. You’ve been gone for several days now. Just wondering what happened back at the alley. That’s all.”

“Well, it’s none of your business so you don’t need to meddle any further,” Taec stated as he shut his locker door and looked at Yoona.

Yoona felt like she was being lectured by an elder and just stared at the ground to avoid eye contact.

“I’m sorry” she managed to spit out. Upon looking up, she noticed that Taecyeon’s face looked a little rough. He had a little cut on his lip and another cut about ¾ of an inch long directly above his left eyebrow. Yoona let out a slight gasp, “What happened? Are you okay?”

He chuckled at Yoona’s sudden concern, “Shouldn’t you be getting back to class now? You’ve been gone for quite some time.”

“Oh, shoot! This is the longest bathroom break ever!” Yoona exclaimed as she hurried back to class.

Nickhun was waiting at the school gates when the students began to gush out of the building indicating the end of the school day. Among the students were Yoona and Seohyun. They were walking, talking, and laughing to themselves. It wasn’t until they actually reached the school gates that they realized that Nickhun was there.

“Nickhun-oppa! I haven’t seen you in forever! How are you?!” Seohyun said as she gave him a one armed hug.

“I’m good. Been busy with school and work.”

“ I heard. Still can’t believe it though,” Seohyun replied with a snicker.

“What’s that suppose to mean?” Nickhun asked somewhat offended.

“No, it’s just that you never worked throughout high school,”

“True, true.

“So what brings you to this side of town, oppa,” questioned Yoona.

“What? Can a guy not pick his girl up from school?” Nickhun smirk

“Stop playing,” Yoona said as she shoved his left shoulder.

Nick laughed, “Truth is, I didn’t have class and didn’t have to work today. I thought I’d surprise you with a visit.”

“Awww, how sweet,” Seohyun teased.

Yoona became flustered by Seohyun’s teasing. It really had been a while since Nick has been on that side of town. But that didn’t mean Yoona didn’t like this sudden surprise. She was so anxious to see what Nickhun had in store for her that she kept giving Seohyun the “look”; the one where Yoona widened her eyes and slightly tilted her head to the side to indicate that she wanted alone time with Nickhun. It took a moment for Seohyun to realize what Yoona was trying to do.

“Well, I should get going,” stated Seohyun. “I’ll leave you two lovebirds to yourselves.” She giggled as she walked off towards the bus stop.

“Oppa, did you forget that I work today?”

“Of course not. I already asked your mother to let you off for the day.”

“Oh really? Yay! So what did you have plan for today?”

“Nothing much. I figured we could just wander around and look at stuff.”

“Oh,” Yoona said with a somewhat disappointed tone.

“Is there something else you wanted to do?”

“No. . . it’s just that I thought we were going to do something more exciting.”

Nickhun chuckled at Yoona’s expression. “Don’t worry. I think you’ll like what I have in mind.”

His reassuring smile immediately brought a smile to Yoona’s face. How could anyone not smile after seeing his? He had a smile thought could brighten anyone’s day. Nickhun then took Yoona by the hand and led her to his car. They drove for about 20 minutes to a park on the outskirts of town. Nick then led Yoona onto the park’s path where they began to stroll.

“This park is so pretty,” Yoona stated as she was walking beside Nick with her right arm linked with his left. “I especially like the pond with the fountain.”

“I know, right?”

“This place might just knock the pier into second place,” Yoona said with a giggle.

“I don’t know about that. The pier will always be number one!” Nickhun defiantly stated. “But I have something else I want you to see.”

“Hmm?” Yoona questioned as he pulled her along the path at a much quicker pace. They arrived at a planetarium.

“Follow me,” Nick said as he guided Yoona through the front entrance. It was filled with images of different constellations and galaxies. Yoona couldn’t help but be amazed by its beauty as she followed Nick into a dome auditorium. They took a seat near the front.

“What are we doing here?”

“Just wait a few minutes. I want you to see this.”

After about 5 minutes, the auditorium was partially filled and the lights were dimmed. Before they knew it, it went completely black and the only light that could be seen was emitted from the projector at the center of the room. It began to play a video that extended around the whole dome ceiling featuring the constellations. Yoona just sat back in astonishment. She had never seen anything like this.

“Oppa, it’s so amazing,” whispered Yoona to Nickhun. “How come you’ve never shown me this before?”

“Because I just found out about this place from one of my professors a couple of days ago.”

“I see. I’m really glad you brought me here.”

“I’m glad you liked it,” he said as he took her hand in his.

After the show the two of them walked around the rest of the planetarium. Yoona then noticed a little gift shop and pulled Nick into it.

“Oppa, I want to get something to remember this trip.”

“Okay, let’s look around and see what we find.”

Yoona began to wander the gift shop. She looked at a variety of telescopes and thought about how awesome it would be to be an astronomer. She then examined charts with different coordinates and posters of different galaxies. She then came across several books. As she was skimming through them, Nickhun appeared from behind and placed a silver necklace in front of her.

“What’s this?”

“It’s a necklace with a pendant of two constellations on it. I picked it out for you.”

“Really?” Yoona questioned as she picked it up for closer examination. She rubbed her thumb over the engraved details.

“Yeah. It’s Andromeda and Perseus. According to mythology, Andromeda was a princess who was rescued by a brave champion named Perseus. It was said that the two went on to live a long and happy life together. I think of you as my princess, and no matter what, I’ll be your champion. I’ll be here to protect you from any danger or pain.”

“Aww, that’s so sweet. I love it.”

Nickhun took the necklace and placed it around Yoona's neck. She looked down at the pendant and caressed it with a couple of fingers.

“I’ll cherish it for the rest of my life.”

Nick smiled and teased, “Hope this day wasn’t too boring for you. I know how much you like “exciting”

Yoona laughed. “How was I supposed to know? You made it seem like we weren’t doing anything.”

“That’s how smooth I am. Not only can I trick you, I can do it well.”

“Not exactly the best trait to brag about, oppa.” Yoona laugh.

“Hey, I work with what I got.”

Yoona couldn’t stop smiling. Today was truly an amazing day. Not only did she get to spend the day with Nickhun, she got such a pretty memorabilia to go along with it.
