Minwoo’s point of view:

 

“Ya , don’t tell me you’re still mad about that …” I said quietly

 

“Mad ?!  Oh no Ha Minwoo , I’m not mad !  I’M FURIOUS !!!” she screamed and walked away in tears

 

“YURI-AH !!!” Sooyoung called after her but she didn’t turn around

 

I don’t know what happened but all of the sudden I found myself running after her .

 

She stopped and sat down at the fountain and started to cry .

 

“Yuri-ah …” I said as I sat down to wipe her tears and hugged her taking in all her beatings

 

“Nappun namja !!!” she whispered as she continued to hit my chest

 

“I’m sorry Yuri-ah … I was young and foolish back then … I’m really sorry …” I whispered as she calmed down a bit

 

“We have to get to class now …” I said as I helped her up but she pushed me away

 

“I can go by myself !” she said in a cold harsh tone and left

 

I sighed and followed her but she headed towards the girls bathroom .  I saw the others and they all came up to me asking me if she was okay .  Sooyoung glared at me , I guess the others already told her my story …

 

-Flashback-

 

I was about 14 years old back then when I first met Yuri during my summer stay in Incheon with my cousins .  I went there every summer to visit them and attend dance class at the same time .  One day our teacher said that she had something to announce .

 

“Alright kids !  A new dancer will be joining our class , I want you to treat her nicely and welcome her warmly okay ?” our dance instructor said

 

“Neh sonsaengnim !” we all responded

 

“Kids , I want you to meet Kwon Yuri !  She will be joining or classes from now on so I hope you can be friends with her .” our teacher said with a smile

 

“Annyeonghaseyo , Kwon Yuri-imnida !  I hope to be friends with all of you .” a girl with braces said

 

“Ya , I bet she can’t even dance !  Look at how ugly she is !” Kyunhwan whispered to me and the others who all agreed and snickered .

“Looks like we’ll have fun from now on .” Kyuhwan said with a smirk

 

Weeks went on and my friends and all the other kids started bullying Yuri behind the teacher’s back .  They all threatened her that if she told the teacher , they would beat her up .  Most of the time I would just sit there and do nothing , sometimes I’d laugh at her along with my friends , sometimes during break I would throw papers at her that said mean things .  Girls would tell her mean things , pull her hair , and trip her .  They all bullied her , especially Kyunhwan-hyung and this witch named Yoonji .

 

 One day I after dance class , I realized that I had left my phone in the studio .

 

“Kyuhwan-hyung , you guys go ahead … I left my phone in the studio .”

 

“Arasseo , we’ll go ahead then , bye maknae !” he said

 

“See you tomorrow maknae !” the others said and left

 

I made my way back to the studio but stopped as soon as I heard music coming from the room .  I peeked and I saw Yuri dancing .

 

*Wow !  She’s really good !*

 

I just stayed there watching her and when she ended her dance routine , I unconsciously started to clap .

 

“Wow , you’re really good !” I said as I approached her

 

“W-what are you doing here ?” she asked me with fear visible in her eyes as she took a step back

 

“I forgot my handphone , I came back to get it but then I saw you dancing and I didn’t want to interrupt .” I replied taking a step closer to her

 

“S-stay a-away from me !” she said now her back was against the mirrors

 

“Why are you acting like I’ll hurt you ?  I’m not going to hurt you …” I assured her

 

“I- I don’t trust you …” she said looking away with tears in her eyes

 

“Look , I’m sorry about all the harsh things my friends do to you …  You see , I’m their maknae … and sometimes they tell me to throw those papers at you , trip you , and all the other things … But I never meant to do that … I’m really sorry …” I said to her with sincerity in my eyes

 

“That’s no excuse to bully people !  So if they tell you to jump off a building , you would do it ?  Just because you’re the maknae , doesn’t mean you have to do what they tell you to do !” she said to me in a harsh sad tone

 

“I know … I’m sorry … Can we start over ?  My name is Ha Minwoo , the dancing machine .” I said to her as I held out my hand to her .  She stared at it for a few seconds and smiled , my heart skipped a beat all of the sudden .

 

“Kwon Yuri … Black Pearl Kwon Yuri .” she said with a smile

 

“You … when did you have your braces taken out … You have a pretty smile !” I said noticing for the first time

 

“Ah .. My dentist took it out 2 days ago …” she said as she blushed

 

“You should smile more often now then .” I said smiling back at her

 

Weeks had passed , I have been secretly hanging out with Yuri after dance class every weekend .  As the dance battle was fast approaching , we needed to work on our group routine and have 3 solo routines ready to be presented .  So 2 weeks before the said battle , me and Yuri hung out in the studio to practice our routines a bit .

 

“You know it’s weird that we might be going against each other in the solo battle but we’re practicing together …” she said laughing a bit

 

“Don’t worry ,  this will be a fair battle .” I assured her and she smiled and held out a pinky

 

“Pinky promise ?”

 

“Pinky promise .” I said as I linked pinkies with her

 

“Kaja , let’s go eat first before we practice again , I brought some snacks !” she said cutely making my heart skip beats

 

On the day of the dance battle , I wished Yuri good luck and she did the same with her warm smile .

 

First round was the group battle where we won first place .  Second round was the start of the solo dance battle .  From there the judges would choose only out of the 30 dancers , Yuri and I made it along with Kyunhwan-hyung , Yoonji , and some girl from another dance school .  The third round was the semi-finals where only 3 would be left for the showdown which is the fourth round .  As the third round ended , there was only me , Yuri , and Yoonji left .  We were given an hour and a half to rest in the dressing room lounge area .  Finally the fourth round has began ,  Yoonji was up first and she showed the judges a disgusting ty dance .  After she danced it was now my turn , while walking back she pulled me close to her and seductively wished me luck which made my skin crawl .  I gently pushed her away and thanked her with a cold expression .  After my performance , I bowed and quickly walked towards the backstage to wish Yuri good luck .  I saw her and I saw how nervous she was so I gave her a little hug and wished her the best of luck .  I didn’t know Yoonji was watching all this time , so she went to tell her unnis what she saw but I didn’t care .  If that would get her off my back then it would be awesome .  I quickly went to grab a seat in the audience’s area to watch her perform .  She was amazing !  Her moves were so flawless , she did a y dance but it didn’t come out ty like Yoonji .  When she finished I went back to the dressing room to congratulate her but she was talking on the phone with her “oppa” …  Who was this “oppa” ?  Did she have a boyfriend already ?  At that thought my heart shattered …

 

“Yeoboseyo ?  Oppa !  How is Seoul ?  I miss you !  Guess what ,  I made it to the finals !  Yes I just performed !  Oppa I wish you came … You’ll be here in a few minutes ?  Really ?!  Yayy !  It’s okay oppa !  At least you’re going to be watching me when the judges announce the winner … I’m not sure yet oppa , the others were awesome … I think I’m just going to get 3^rd place … But it’s okay , being 3^rd out of 30 people isn’t bad right oppa ?   ㅋㅋㅋ  Arasseoyo oppa , I’ll see you in a few minutes !  Saranghae !  Byeee .”

 

“Aww Minwoo oppa , don’t be disappointed , I’m always here for you .” Yoonji suddenly said hugging my arm .

 

“Let go of my arm .” I said in a cold voice

 

“Oppa , you’re so mean !  You give that ugly girl hugs but you don’t even want me to hold on to your arm ?!  I’m better than that over there !  At least I didn’t flirt with you even though I had a boyfriend already …” she said as she hugged my arm tighter

 

“Aishhh !  Stay away from me !” I hissed at her as I shook her off my arm and walked away .  Finally after 15 minutes of waiting , they called us to the stage .

 

“Ladies and gentlemen , after a 15 minute debate among the judges , they have finally come up with the decision on who deserved to be the winner .  But before I announce the results , I want to tell you that all of you are winners and you all did an outstanding job .  Congratulations !  Third place goes to … y Dancer Park Yoonji ! –applause- Second place was a difficult decision for the judges but in the end they all decided that second place would go to … Ha Minwoo !  -applause- and finally first place goes to Black Pearl Kwon Yuri !!! –applause-  Congratulations to all !” the host said

 

Yuri came up to me , hugged me and congratulated me , my heart hurt knowing that she already had a boyfriend .  I slowly pushed her off and said congratulations with an indifferent expression and went back stage leaving her confused .

 

As I entered the dressing room , I saw all the girls comforting their ty maknae Yoonji .  I heard them cursing out Yuri under their breaths but I just ignored it . 

*Such sore losers !  Take that as a blow to your egos , now you can’t say you’re the best of the best .* I smugly thought to myself .

 

As I was packing up my stuff , Yuri came in and the other girls immediately blocked her path .

“Yuri-ah !  Congratulations !  You really wowed us by your awesome performance back there …  Uhm … we would also like to apologize to you for the mean thing we’ve done to you …  Me and my unnis and oppas are going to celebrate because the top 4 came from our class .  Would you care to join us ?” Yoonji asked with her fake smile .

 

“Oh … ah thank you … and it’s okay I forgive you guys … I’ll ask my mom and dad I could go …” she replied with a smile .

 

Later she came back saying she would join them .  Yoonji came up to me and asked me to join them as well .  I reluctantly agreed since I wasn’t doing anything afterwards …

 

We all made our way to a noraebang-restaurant that Kyunhwan-hyung’s father rented out for us .  On our way there , we passed by the Han River and decided to stay there for a few minutes .

 

“Omo , your bracelet looks so pretty Yuri-ah !” Yoonji suddenly stated

 

“Ah this ?  Thanks …  This is my lucky charm … It was my halmeoni’s , she used to be a dancer when she was younger .” Yuri said

 

“Really ?  Wow can I see it ?”  Saeyoung asked her

 

“Sure , here you go …” Yuri said as she gave it to Saeyoung who smiled evilly

 

“Yoonji !  Catch !” she said as she passed it to Yoonji .

 

“Unni !  Stop throwing it around please !  It might fall into the river !” Yuri said now panicking trying to take it from Yoonji .

 

“Hahaha !  You’re not only ugly Yuri , you’re really gullible and stupid as well !  Kyunhwan oppa , catch !”  Yoonjin said with an evil grin as she passed it to Kyunhwan-hyung .

 

They all passed it to one another and finally Yoonji had it again .  She was now standing by the railings smirking .  Yuri’s eyes widened she looked at Yoonji pleadingly which made Yoonji smirk even more .

 

“You know b*tch , I never really lost a dance battle before .  This year was supposed to be my year to win !  The other unnis and oppas made their routines as simple as it can be so I can win !” she said obviously pissed off

 

“Yoonji-ah … please … don’t …” Yuri said slowly approaching her

 

“Yoonji-ah ?!  Don’t call me that !  We’re not even friends !  I don’t befriend ugly people like you !  You stole my spotlight !” Yoonji hissed

 

“Yoonji … please I’m begging you … I-I didn’t mean to …” Yuri pleadingly said

 

“Shut up !” Yoonji screamed at her

 

“Yoonji , just give it back to her …” I said still with an indifferent tone

 

“Oppa !  Why are you taking her side ?!” she questioned and glared at Yuri

 

“Just give it back to her .” I said now getting annoyed

 

“YOU !  FIRST YOU STEAL MY SPOTLIGHT NOW YOU’RE TRYING TO STEAL MY MAN ?!” she yelled at Yuri now in tears .

 

“This little b*tch needs to be slapped !” Saeyoung said as she stepped towards Yuri who cowered in fear .

 

“You dare try to steal our maknae’s oppa ?!” Hyesoo hissed

 

“N-n-no …  I’m not trying to steal Minwoo oppa –..”

 

*SLAP*

 

“Oppa ?!  How dare you call him that ?!” Saeyoung shrieked

 

“Ya !  Jeon Saeyoung !” I said pushing her aside to check on Yuri who was now bawling her eyes out

 

“OPPA !  HOW COULD YOU TAKE HER SIDE ?!” Yoonji screamed and I stopped and just glared at her

 

“Minwoo oppa please tell her that we’re just friends …” Yuri said quietly that really broke my heart .  I wasn’t able to say it .

 

“Yoonji , don’t do anything stupid !  We’re not just friends we’re – ” I said as she cut me off

 

“OPPA !  What’s that supposed to mean ?!” she yelled at me in shock

 

“Yoonji please … I-I-‘m sorry to make you misunderstand … We’re just friends I assure you … I’m sorry !” Yuri pleaded once more

 

“APOLOGY NOT ACCEPTED !” Yoonji said as she threw the bracelet into the water .

 

“NO !!!” Yuri yelled as she ran towards the railings

 

“That’s what you get for messing with us !” Yoonji said now smirking happily

 

“You b*tch !  That was given to me by my halmeoni who passed away a year ago !” Yuri said as she went after Yoonji and kicked her in the face

 

A fight broke out between the girls , and it was 5 against 1 .  Yuri took them down one by one easily . 

 

*Wow , this girl can fight !*

 

After that , I tried talking to Yuri but she just ignored me .  A few days later our teacher told us that she would no longer be attending our dance classes because she moved to Seoul to live with her older brother .

 

The thought then struck me .  

 

*Brother ?!  Maybe she didn’t have a boyfriend after all … BABO …*

 

After that year I never went back to that dance school … I found others here in Busan that had nicer people , but I never really loved anyone else but Yuri … I was such a fool … I'm sorry Yuri-ah and ... Saranghaeyo ... I wish I could tell you that someday ...
