Chapter 9

Dancing With Noodles - An Exo Fanfic

Sophies P.O.V

Sophie slapped her hand in the general direction of her phone on the bedside table, in a feeble attempt to turn off the alarm that had just shocked her awake. “Fantastic Baby.” By BigBang echoed through the room and pounded in her skull. She hated mornings. She gave up, rolling onto her side and reached for her phone. She had just turned it off when a bouncing ray of sunshine leapt through her door and landed on her bed.

“Good morning Sophie!” Sehun squealed and hugged her, “Come on we have to go to school.” He rolled off her bed and got to his feet staring pointedly at the sleepy teen, yet somehow looking extremely cute in the process.

“You really are the maknae aren’t you?” She sighed, wondering how he could be so energetic at 6:30 in the morning. Freak.

“Yep!” he said proudly hands on his hips. “Now come on lazy bones, get out of bed.” He tugged the blankets off her and jumped on her bed again.

“Get off, you will crinkle you uniform and D.O will yell at you, plus I don’t even have my bag or clothes here yet and I refuse go to school in sweats. I do have self respect.”

“Kai went and grabbed your stuff from the studio, he was up early.” Sehun stated with confused look on his face. She was a bit shocked at the smart-alec Kais niceness, but she was snapped back into reality. “Fi! Come on!” he said jumping up and down impatiently.

She lazily rolled out of bed and pulled the bubbly boy to a stand still flattening his now crinkled tie and shirt. “Fi? Your calling me Fi now?”

“Sophie is to long. Plus it’s cute, and I’m not calling you Mei-Mei, I’m not Chinese.” He beamed at her and walked out of the room, She glanced once more at her beautiful bed before trudging to the hallway where she was met with a pleasant sight. “Morning BaekHyun.” The boy, eyeliner free for once, spun on his heels and beamed at her toothbrush in his mouth. “Morning!” a worried look crossed his face and his brows scrunched, “You don’t look too good are you okay?”

She scoffed at this obvious fact, “I’m not a morning person,” She waved her hand in the air casually, “It’s okay I’m not dead.” Though she must admit she probably looked like a zombie.

“Good.” He chuckled relaxing and gestured to the bathroom, “You need to use it?”

“Is anybody in there?”

“Nah it’s empty, I just left.”

“Cool thanks.”

Hey eyes followed BaekHyun down the hall he and called over his shoulder, “Don’t take too long or Xiu Min will have stolen all the breakfast.” That made her hurry.

Once she was out of the bathroom and partially presentable she ran into Kai who was waiting outside her bedroom door with her duffel at his feet. At her entrance he turned and smiled, “Here, I was up early and I figured you would need clothes that weren’t LuHans tracks.” He handed her the large duffel and she beamed at him.

“Thanks Kai,” He stood before her eyes glistening and full of energy, she couldn’t help but growl at him, “Freaky morning person.” She swept a hand through her now brushed hair and tried to stay upright, not letting herself fall asleep standing up. He looked at her worriedly and she shook her head, “This is normal don’t worry. Just please, if I drift asleep don’t let me fall.”

“Gotcha.” He laughed and leaned against the wall again. “So I heard about what happened at the dance lesson yesterday. Add that to last nights,” he paused gripping for the right word, “events. You don’t seem to be a very lucky person.” He joked smirking. That damn smirk, why are all the guy so good at it!

“No! I am definitely unlucky. Nothing seems to be going right recently.” She rubbed her neck letting out a sigh. First being robbed, which she had chosen not to speak of to ANYONE. Then being put in the amateur group in the one class she had actually looked forward too and creating an enemy of the bullies at school, then being attacked at work. Plus she still wasn’t sure Mr Kim wouldn’t fire her for leaving early.

“Hey you got us, that has gotta be something good right?” He said beaming proudly, his perfectly straight teeth sparkling. Geeez, why did she have to live with such attractive guys. It was such a tease.

She cleared before answering, “Yeah you guys are about the only thing going right for me at the moment.”

He smiled once more before his face turned serious and sympathetic. “No but I really am sorry about your placement. LuHan told me how good you were and I did see a little bit for myself when you barged into our-

“Am I ever going to live that down!?” she groaned banging her head against the wall.

He grinned and shook his head cutely, “No! But for what it’s worth, I think you deserve to be put in a higher group.” She smiled gratefully at the dancer and hugged him gently, which he returned rather surprised but not at all disappointed.

When they pulled away Kai was smirking which Sophie responded with a light punch to his shoulder. He rubbed his arm pretending to be injured. “Ow that hurt.” His lips tilting into a small grin before turning on his heels.

“Sure Sure.” He began walking down the hall, she called after him, “Hey save me some food would ya’?”

“Sure, if Chanyeol hasn’t devoured it all.” He called back giving her the thumbs up and she smiled fondly.

“Hey, I’m not even up yet!” a voice echoed from one of the rooms, she assumed it was Chanyeol. Kai turned around and walked up to the door that lead to the red haired boys room.

“Well hurry up, we gotta go see the manager man!” Kai yelled back before banging his fist on the door. “Well come on before the hurricane wakes up and devours everything in its path.”

“It’s okay, I was more worried about Xiu Min!”

“Hey!” Xiu Min said as he pushed passed her after exiting his room. An expression of mock offence on his face. “That was mean mei-mei why would you say such a thing.”

“Because I don’t lie.” She shot back grinning innocently.

He raised a hand to his heart and pretended to recoil from the blow, “Ouch Sophie, you really know how to cut a guy deep.” He glared playfully at her and she returned the expression.

“Oh Shut up.” She chuckled entering her room.

She tipped the contents of her duffel on the unmade bed and searched for something clean, and decent to wear to school until she got a uniform.

She dorned some black skinny jeans and a baggy white singlet layered over a tight pink one, paired with some pink converses. If she wasn’t going in uniform, she planned to at least wear something she liked. Sophie glanced at her curvy reflection in the wardrobe mirror. She didn’t appreciate the love handles she had and she was a little to chubby for her taste but she did look pretty good in skinny jeans.

Someone coughed at the door and she turned ready to pounce if it was LuHan, she had three insults locked and loaded. She almost slipped when she saw the massively tall Kris standing in the doorframe grinning at her. “You look lovely, just come and have breakfast. I’m driving you and Sehun to school this morning.”

She felt blush creep up her cheeks and she looked at the floor, causing a rare chuckled to rise from Kris throat. She shot him a glare and he stepped back with his hands in the air. “I surrender. Just hurry up, you take longer than SuHo.” He paused, puzzled look on his face before looking further down the hall. “Correction, you ALMOST take longer than SuHo, he is still asleep. But still,” he gestured to the hall, “Come on.”

“Okay, I’m coming.” She skipped out the door causing a grin to spread across Kris’s usually indifferent face, which she promptly returned before disappearing into the kitchen, where she beheld a wondrous sight. Kai was holding a plate of food above his head away from Xiu Min who was attempting (and failing) to leap for it. The desperate look on the shorters face was priceless, “Yo taco boy, calm yourself.” She called as she walked in.

At her entrance Kai face palmed the black hole of a boy and handed her the meal gesturing her to escape and escape quickly. She ran out of the kitchen and waved at the boys already awake. They returned her greeting with a chorus of, “Morning Mei-Mei.” And “Hey Sophie.” She sat down and began eating her meal with Sehun sitting next to her, rummaging through his massive school bag. The guys were right, it was really REALLY big.

She heard 3 doors slam simultaneously from the hall signalling zombies were on the move. LuHan had finally emerged and was looking very dead, with Chanyeol and SuHo following close behind looking even worse. Break out the baseball bats and shotguns, we got a zombie apocalypse going on here. The three walking dead fumbled around into the kitchen and emerged holding plates of food and rubbing their faces. She did however notice a sparkle in Chanyeol’s eyes as he stared lovingly at the meal.

Man, this kids was worse that Xiu Min.

Actually, no. Nobody was worse than Xiu Min.

“Mei-Mei, help!” she heard a muffled voice call and she ran into the lounge room spotting the source of the mayday. Tao and Chen were wrestling on the lounge over the TV remote. She grabbed it from Taos hands and turned off the idiot box, causing both boys to stare up at her pouting. “Please put it back on Mei-Mei.” They whined in unison.

She couldn’t help but smile at their cutness. “As long as you promise not to fight.” They nod vigorously. “Okay.” She flicked the TV back on and placed the remote on the coffee table. She saw both boys lunge for it, “Uh-Ah!” they looked at her guiltily before settling back into their seats. Satisfied with her actions she left the room so she wouldn’t see them fight if they started up again. She could only do so much.

She sat down across from the 3 sleepy boys and glanced down at her now empty plate. She could hear Kai and Xiu Min fighting in the kitchen so by deduction the culprit had to be, “Chanyeol!” she scolded at the boy sitting across from her. He briefly raised his head from the table giving her an evil grin. “Sorry Fi, I was just so hungry.” He whined.

“It’s okay, I wasn’t that hungry anyway, I ate most of it.” She checked the time on the wall clock and nudged Sehun. It was time to go. She quickly jogged around the room giving all the zombies sympathetic hugs, knowing what it was like to not be energetic in the morning.

SuHo clung to her like a baby koala and attempted to go back to sleep on her shoulder but she gently shook him awake before planting a light kiss on his cheek “You babo.”. LuHan for once didn’t have a snappy remark or smirk for her that morning, he just accepted the hug gratefully before going back to his food. Chanyeol was now partially awake thanks to the food and gave her a quick hug before heading to the bathroom.

She popped her head in to say goodbye to Chen and Tao before heading to the kitchen.

“Bye Guys, Me and Sehun are about to leave.” Xiu Min ran over and hugged her with Kai closely behind. “Bye bye Mei-Mei, give that teacher hell!” she looked pointedly at Kai. The dancer collapse under her gaze, “Okay okay so I told about your dance teacher.” He scratched the back of his head nervously, “Sorry.”

“It’s okay, it’s not that big of a deal anyway. It’s just school.” She walked over also giving him a hug. When they pulled away she realised something was missing from the kitchen. “Hey wheres D.O?”

“He went to pay the rent for this week.” Xiu Min piped up with his head in the fridge.

“But I needed to give him my share.” She said puzzled.

“You have only been here for one night, if you insist on paying rent, then you should pay when you have actually lived here for a week.” SuHo said trudging into the kitchen placing his plate of the bench before exiting. He looked like he hadn’t had a goodnights sleep in his life.

“Okay, well I need to go. I will see you guys later for practise yeah?”

“Yeah.”

“Uh-Huh.”

She waved before walking back to the dining room. Sehun looked at her with a worried look on his face, “Wheres Kris?” She shrugged her shoulders and sat down at the table.

Sehun was about to go and get him when low and behold his large stature was being chased down the hall by BaekHyun, who was flicking him with a wet towel. He howled in pain as he got him right on the and the 5 in the room broke out in laughter while Kris stood there holding his tortured behind.

“Sorry Duizang.” Baekhyun said sweetly, batting his eyelashes in an innocent manor before high jacking it back down the hall, seeking refuge in his bedroom. “Fricken BaekHyun.” Kris muttered grabbing his keys off the hook and headed for the door, Sophie and Sehun trailing behind.

“And they thought me and Tao were bad.” Sehun judged next to her, shaking his head in amusement at his Hyungs.

In the car the two students lounged in the back, legs entangled in the middle section of the seat. “So how’s, school. I think everybody heard about your run in with the school bullies. But have you found anyone to hang out with. Cause if not you know you can always hang out with me.” He grinned cheekily and tapped her calf with his foot.

“I met a guy who stood up for me in dance class.” She said perking up, remembering James and his diva-ness.

“Is he your friend?” the maknaes asked, head curiously tilted to the side.

“I like to think he is, he invited me to hang with him and a few others at lunch.” She remembered the colourful boy from yesterday and his invitation, after the drama at the bar and last nights introductions. It all seemed so long ago.

“Where does he sit?”

“Studio 2? I think he said?” Sehuns eyes almost popped out of his skull.

“Oh my god you’re the one James was talking about!” The boy said sitting up straight in the car and hitting his head on the roof, “Ow.” He said rubbing the crown of his head. Wait what, okay this was getting confusing. Sehun clapped his hands and Sophie looked at him questioningly.

“You know James?”

“Know him?! He is my best friend!” the boy chortled nearly falling onto the floor of the car.

“Be careful Sehun.” Kris called from the front.

“Sorry.” He replied meekly before turning back to Sophie, “We have been best friends since I was in year 9. We kind of ended up friends by chance. I ended up getting bullied a lot for hanging out with him but he is a great guy.”

“What did you get bullied for?” Sehun shrugged and waved a casual hand trying to push off the subject but Sophie bore holes into his forehead and didn’t let him escape.

“They said that I was gay and called me ‘’ and stuff. Nothing to dramatic. I felt bad for James though because he does actually like guys. He puts on this whole Diva visage and tries to blow it all off but I know it still hurts him when he gets insulted for being who he is.” The expression on James’s face yesterday when he recalled his bag getting set of fire just backed up these claims, this kid had it bad. Sophie immediately felt sorry for him and wished she could make it all stop. Nobody should be hated for who they are.

“Then other people took the opposite route and tried to act sympathetic, saying I should get away from him because I was a potential ‘victim’ since I was a guy.” He sighed and lightly hit his head against the window clicking his jaw. “But James and I talk about this all the time, I’m not his type.” He laughed the sound filling the car and Sophie smiled, laughing along with him.

As the car pulled into the parking lot, Sehun leapt out but Sophie quickly popped her head into the front. “Thanks for the ride Kris.” And with a half hug she got out of the car. The elder boy rolled down his window. “No worries Sophie. Bye you two.” He said with a wave and a small smile before driving off.

Sehun smirked knowingly at Sophie before leading her into the gates, what did he know she didn’t. She considered tickling the secret out of him, she knew the maknae was ticklish and she bet she could make him give in in about 30 seconds.

“You need to tell us the secret eventually you know?” He said lanky limbs plodding along next to her as they approached the office. She looked up at him inquisitively and he elbowed her lightly. “How to make Kris smile.”

She felt her cheeks flame and knew she must be blushing, she looked to the ground in a feeble attempt to hide her embarrassment. What did he mean by that?

“I have known him for a few years now and I have seen him smile more in the last 2 days, than in the entire time I knew him.” He stated scientifically and she looked at him doubting this was true. Kris probably smiled as much as anybody else, Sehun was just being dramatic.

“Legit! He was just so indifferent about everything, he never showed his emotions. It’ only been in the last few days that he has been giving us glimpses of what he feels.”

“And you think that has something to do with me?” she shook her head not convinced of his argument.

“I’m not saying he likes you it’s just a fact. Plus he isn’t the only one you have had an effect on.”

She looked at him again attempting to read his face, and finding nothing. He caught her staring and shrugged his shoulders again. “What? It’s true. Kai hasn’t gotten up early without us dragging him kicking and screaming in two months. LuHan hasn’t used that fricken smirk in just as long, he has been all mopey since the first choreographer left and now his back to his normal sarcastic self.” He paused looking at her pointedly, “Thank you for that by the way, mopey LuHan may have been annoying but arrogant LuHan is excruciating!”

“Pffft I don’t need any convincing for that!” he gave her a high five before continuing.

“Heck even Lay, he hasn’t spoken a single word in 3 weeks until he introduced himself to you last night, like it or not you have an affect on people.”

Sophie ran a hand through her hair as they entered the office. “I don’t know why though, I’m nothing special.” Sehun shook his head, “Fine then you can’t disagree with this; James has been surfing under the radar for as long as possible to avoid the bullies? Yes?”

“Yes but-“

“Then why would he attract lots of attention to himself by standing up for you, someone who is on the bullies hit list?” He stared blankly at her as if this was obvious, Sophie didn’t understand what he was saying. How could she make all these changes in these people, she was just, normal. But it was true. James put himself at risk by backing her up yesterday, and if what she heard was true the boys she told off in English had it in for her.

“But how? Why am I the one to make them change?” She groaned stamping her foot immaturely and a smile crossed the maknaes face. He ruffled her hair causing her to pout. “That dear Sophie, is the secret.”

The bell rang and he began jogging backwards to his next class, she poked her tongue out at the boy and he waved with an evil grin on his face. Yep, definitely spending too much time with Kai and LuHan. She sighed and blew her bangs out of her face before heading off to class. Just another day in hell.
