The Parks Pt. 2 / Chaennie

Words are all I have (to take your heart away)

This is a short one but a couple of people asked for part two. So here you go.Happy Chaennie day!

------

Kids.

Some people like them, some people hate them, some people find them indifferent.

For the Parks they love kids, both Jennie and Chaeyoung knew they wanted kids at some point in their life and accident or not they have two of their own who they love immensely.

Of course having kids can be an adventure, sometimes is fun, sometimes is tiring, but most of all, and this was almost all of the time these days, it required patience. Especially now that their eldest kid was in that era where all they do is ask questions. ALL. THE. TIME.

“Why does the letter ‘W’ start with the letter ‘D’?”

“Also, what color are mirrors?”

“Can you cry under water?”

If real life could have sound effects she’s sure the X-files music would be playing after each question because just how does the kid come up with these things.

Other times the questions are just exhausting and they just keep coming. Like now, Jennie was in the kitchen getting some water when out of nowhere she hears little feet running to the kitchen.

“No running down the stairs, love.” She calls out, still keeping an ear out in case something happened.

“Mama, I have a question.”

Here we go. Jennie takes a deep breath as she knows one question leads to another five.

“When will I go to school?”

Finally a question Jennie can actually answer. “In september.”

“Is tomorrow September?”

“No, it won’t be september until after summer.”

“Is tomorrow summer?”

“No, it won’t be summer until after your birthday.”

“Is tomorrow my birthday?

Jennie leaves her glass on the counter and takes a deep breath. “No, baby, it won’t be your birthday until May.”

“Is…”

“And before you ask, tomorrow is NOT May.”

“Because tomorrow is summer?

Jennie sighs.

“If the devil punishes bad people does that make him good?”

“I… you know what? Why don’t you go ask mommy, I’m sure she’ll know.” Yes, when in doubt send her to her mommy, Chaeyoung always had a long discussion on these things, it was endearing to see a woman in her mid twenties and a five year old having a full on discussion like adults.

“Otay.”

And so to her mommy she goes, said mommy was in her office as she had been working from home for the past few months, she had just finished the background on her illustration when she hears little fun running through the hallways and mentally countdown. Three, two, one…

“Mommy?” She hears from behind the door, a knock following.

“Yes baby, come in.” Chaeyoung smiles, glad that her daughter has understood the concept of knocking. That moment with Olivia asking why her mommy was under the sheets while her mom was sitting up one morning was not one they wanted to repeat.

“Mama, said I could ask you a question.” Olivia said, while climbing on to her mother’s lap.

Chaeyoung, helps her kid and starts a brand new document so Olivia could doodle without ruining her current project. “What is it this time, baby?”

“Is cereal soup?”

Chaeyoung blinks.

“I… don’t think it is, baby.”

“Why not, soup has water in it and chewie things so why is it no soup?”

Huh. Chaeyoung thinks about it for a second… soup has some kind of broth in it right? And, like Olivia said, chewie things, though not always. So based on that logic, milk can be considered the broth right? And the chewie thing is the cereal in itself so maybe cereal is soup?

But then again, a broth has some sort of preparation and cereal is sweet whereas soups are not and you don’t prepare the milk so does that mean that cereal is not soup?

“Well.. because... um, cereal is sweet baby and soups are not. Also remember how mama always puts vegetables to make the soup water? You don’t do that with milk. So no, baby, cereal is not soup.” Chaeyoung concludes.

“But didn’t you say we don’t drink milk that comes out of the cow because it makes you sick and that’s why we buy the ones in bottles because it is cooked?”

Well .

Olivia has a point.

Milk is ‘cooked’ as she said, it's pasteurized. So… does that mean that milk is a broth?

Is it not a “stew” in its own right? The milk is infused with flavor and changes color depending on what cereal you decide to put into it. Therefore, by definition, cereal is soup.

“You know what, baby you are so smart.” Chaeyoung said, having concluded that cereal is in fact soup. “Cereal is soup.”

Jennie thinks the reason Chaeyoung is so good at handling this question is because the woman has also millions of strange questions running through her head as well. Now Jennie can humor them both every once in a while, not matter how dumb the question it seemed, like that one time Chaeyoung asked if Mike Wazouski closed his eye was he winking or blinking? It made for a good conversation starter.

Other times Jennie did not have the patience to indulge either of them, especially at night when it seemed Chaeyoung’s mind started running with ridiculous questions.

“Hey baby.”

“Yes, love?” Jennie asked as she got into bed next to her wife.

“Does Lightning Mcqueen have life insurance or car insurance?”

“Chaeyoung.”

“Yes, love?”

“Go to sleep.”

----------------------------------

You know what both Chaeyoung and Jennie find ridiculous? PIck up lines. They are dumb and unecessary. And they both have been the victims of several ones. After one night where Jennie again let out her ‘passion’ on a bartender this had become kind of a running joke between the two. It was almost like an unspoken competition. Who can come up with the most pick up lines for the other.

“Uuughhhhh.”

Jennie looks up from the TV as her wife walks into the living room, looking stressed and confused.

“What?” She asked worriedly, putting down her tea on the coffee table.

“I’m so confused…” Chaeyoung begins standing in front of Jennie, the brunette looking up at her. “

“What?”

“I’m so confused.” Chaeyoung repeats.

“Why?”

“I thought happiness started with ‘H.”

Jennie looks up at her frowning, Chaeyoung could see Jennie’s mind running on all the possible things Chaeyuong could mean with that.

“But it starts with ‘U’.” Chaeyoung finishes with a cheeky smile.

The brunette looks up at her and sighs, clearly unimpressed. She then looks to the side while shaking her head as Chaeyoung giggles at her annoyance.

“Every kiss begins with ‘K’.”

“Oh, yay!”

*****

“Yo.”

“Hey, love.”

This time it was Chaeyoung who was sitting in the living room late at night, blanket on her lap as she watched The Conjuring for the nth time, when her wife came in and sat beside her.

“Roses are red.” Jennie began and Chaeyoung muted the TV and looked at her. “Violets are fine. You be the ‘6’ and I’ll be the ‘9’.” She finished with a seductive smirk and a wink.

Chaeyoung’s eyes widened in surprise. “You dirty bish.” She says with a smirk and then chuckles mischievously.

“What?” Jennie asked, chuckling as well.

“Let’s go!” Chaeyoung said, throwing away the blanket and standing up.

“What are you doing?” Jennie asked, laughing watching as her wife turned off the TV and the rest of the lights.

“Let’s go, baby.” Chaeyoung repeats this time approaching Jennie and carrying her over the shoulder.

“Oh my god.” Jennie quietly yelped as she laughed “Baby!”

“I’m ready to be the ‘9’ babe!”

*****

Other times the pick up lines were sweet and wholesome and it never failed to make each other smile. Because, well, not all pick up lines are dirty but they do all end with a smile.

“Hey, babe.”

Chaeyoung and Jennie were out on a morning stroll as their kids were staying at their grandma’s, they’d be picking them up in a couple of hours so they were just enjoying their last reminders of their alone time.

“Yeah?”

“Can I read your palm?”

“Uh, sure.” Jennie said, confused as she opened up her hand.

The blonde woman lovingly started tracing out the lines on her wife’s hand. ‘So this is your head line… that is your heart line….”

“Aha.” Jennie said as she paid attention to her wife, tingles running her arm from her touch.

“And this…” Chaeyoung then intertwined her hand with her wifes with a sweet smile. “And this is the pick up line.”

Jennie chuckled as butterflies erupted in her stomach, she doesn’t think she’ll ever get tired of this feeling. “That was sweet.”

Chaeyoung only smiled wider and puffed out her chest proudly.

And Jennie, well Jennie could only kiss her as a thanks.

----------------------------------------

There are a few things they each love the most about each other, like how Chaeyoung can never finish a cup of tea or coffee unless Jennie makes it because apparently it just tastes better when she makes it. The brunette feels incredibly happy every time she’s see’s an empty cup.

Chaeyoung always goes to bed later than Jennie and one things she loves is how her wife is heavy sleeper but even then once she feels a body next to her, Jennie will commence what Chaeyoung calls the reach, she’ll start swatting around to find her and once a body part is located she will attempt to crawl into Chaeyoung’s skin, all while asleep. Most night Chaeyoung will just lay there and kinda chuckle.

And Jennie, Jennie will always get up earlier than Chaeyoung due to her job, and every single time she will fix up the blankets and tuck her in.

Also Jennie loves Chaeyoung’s little smiles, she just loves that every time she looks at her there will be a smile on her face. The blonde seemed to have a special kind of smile when it comes to Jennie. Like when they go shopping and get separated, they will find each other again and Chaeyoung always smiles when she sees the brunette. Sometimes Jennie will wander off just so they can bump into each other and Jennie gets to see that smile. She has never told her this for fear that Chaeyoung will become aware of it and stop.

6 years of knowing each other and she still smiles when she sees Jennie. The brunette gets misty if she thinks too hard about it.

Chaeyoung just loves how affectionate Jennie is, how she just needs to be close to her or touching her in one way or another. Like when they sit down at a restaurant Jennie will scoot her chais as close to her as possible, giving her the biggest, cutest and sweetest smile she’s even seen in a person, then she’ll lay her head on her shoulder for a minute. She’ll then hold her hand, or Chaeyoung will put her arm around her and every single time Jennie will smile.

All those things are some of the many small, adorable things they do, but most of all the just love when they exist.
