Chapter 21

Don't Deserve You

Jisoo stood nervously in her place, waiting for the doors of the venue to open and reveal Jennie. Chaeyoung was standing behind her, giving Jisoo the support she needed.

After their conversation, the 3 girls had parted ways, with Jisoo and Chaeyoung heading towards the altar and Lisa rushing off to find Jennie. Jisoo scanned the crowd and spotted Changmin's face. He smiled at her encouragingly and gave her a thumbs up, slightly calming her nervous state.

Jisoo's eyes continued to scan the crowd, reporters and journalists who were seated at the back were trying to capture every single moment of the wedding with their cameras. Jisoo's eyes landed on Jennie's mother.

The older woman gave a slight nod, giving Jisoo her approval and gratitude.

Just then, the doors to the venue opened, revealing Lisa, who elegantly makes her way down the aisle. The younger came up to stand in her place on the altar. She looks towards Jisoo and Chaeyoung and smiled at them, trusting that Jennie was in good hands.

Jisoo returns the gesture. Her smile brightens when she spots Jaehyun in the front row. The little boy smiled brightly at Jisoo and waved at her. Jisoo chuckles at his gesture and slightly waves back.

Jaehyun had received his heart transplant about a week ago, just a day after Jisoo's phone call with Suho. Technically, Jaehyun was supposed to remain in the hospital for at least 2 more weeks to monitor his condition, but since nothing seemed to be wrong with his health and it was Jisoo's big day, Changmin had made an exception and allowed the younger to leave the hospital for one day.

Finally, the doors to the venue opened, revealing Jennie, her arms tightly linked to her father's. The lights dimmed as the 2 began to make their way down the aisle.

Jisoo gazes lovingly at Jennie as the younger girl gracefully walks down the aisle in her dress. When Jennie and her father approached the altar, Mr. Kim carefully places his daughter's hand inside Jisoo's.

Mr. Kim: I'm putting my trust in you to take care of my daughter Jisoo.

Jisoo: Don't worry Abeonim, Jennie is in good hands.

Mr. Kim gave Jisoo a slight smile before giving Jennie a kiss on her cheek.

Mr. Kim: I love you Jennie-ah.

Jennie: I love you too appa.

Mr. Kim smiles at his daughter once more before heading towards his seat. Once he was seated, Jisoo and Jennie turn to face the priest.

After the 2 girls had finished exchanging their vows and wedding rings, they stood still as they listened to the priest say his next words, announcing that they were finally wedded.

Priest: You may now kiss.

Jisoo looks into Jennie's eyes and she could see the dread and hesitation in them. Despite feeling nervous, she slowly leans forward and connected their lips. At first, Jennie didn't respond to the kiss, but after a few moments, Jisoo felt the younger's lips move against hers in perfect synchronization.

The crowd cheered and clapped for the newly wedded couple while the reporters were eagerly capturing photos.

The taste of Jennie's lips were just as she had remembered.

The younger's lips were soft and gentle against Jisoo's. She could taste the familiar flavor of banana lip bomb that Jennie would always wear. She wanted this moment to last forever.

However, Jennie had quickly pulled away from the kiss much to Jisoo's disappointment.

Jisoo stares at Jennie's face and saw the disgust reflected in her eyes.

'That's right, she hates me.'

It was constant reminder that Jisoo has to tell herself everyday, that none of this is real and that Jennie will always hate her.

Jennie on the other hand was filled with disgust, but not for the reasons that Jisoo had thought. Jennie was disgusted by herself, because she had actually enjoyed the kiss. She hated the emptiness and disappointment she felt as she had forced herself away from Jisoo's lips.

She was disgusted by the fact that she wanted to smash her lips into Jisoo's at that very moment. Because despite everything, the taste of Jisoo's lips on her's was something that Jennie had missed. Jisoo gave a strained smile, trying to pretend that everything was okay, but Jennie could see the pained look in her eyes.

Jennie's face softens upon seeing Jisoo's pained expression, but she had to remind herself that Jisoo was the reason that she was even here at this moment. The reason that she had to break up with Hanbin. Hardening her expression, Jennie leans over to Jisoo's ear and whispered.

Jennie: I hope you'll keep your promise Jisoo. It's the least you could do after everything you've done to me.

Jennie pulls away from Jisoo and plasters on a fake smile as she turns to the crowd. Everyone joined their hands together for the newly wedded couple.

After everyone was settled, Jisoo and Jennie led them outside to the wedding reception.

Everyone was in a good mood. CEOs introduced themselves to each other and made new contacts.

Family and friends on both sides got together to chat and find out more about each other. Even the reporters and journalists have put down their cameras and journals in order to join in on the festivities.

As Jisoo was making her rounds to greet and thank everyone for coming, she spots Jaehyun in the crowd playing with some other kids. She smiles and called out to him.

Jisoo: Jaehyun-ah!

The little boy's eyes sparkled as he saw Jisoo. Rushing over to her, he jumped into her arms and gave her a big hug.

Jaehyun: Noona, congratulations!

Jisoo chuckles as she puts him down and ruffles his hair.

Jisoo: Thanks kiddo.

Looking around a bit and not seeing his mother, Jisoo turns back to Jaehyun.

Jisoo: Where are your parents Jae?

Jaehyun: My dad is at work, and my mom went to get us drinks.

Jisoo nodded.

Jisoo: How are you feeling by the way. Tired? In pain?

Jaehyun shook his head and smiled at Jisoo.

Jaehyun: I feel great noona, you don't have to worry about me.

Jisoo: That's great Jaehyun. But remember, if you start to feel tired, alert me, your mother, or Dr. Changmin right away okay? You can't let yourself get sick again, alright?

Jaehyun nodded.

Jaehyun: I understand noona, don't worry.

Jisoo smiled at him and played with his hair.

Jaehyun: Noona.

Jisoo: Hmm?

Jaehyun: Your wife is very pretty. I can see why you like her.

At his words, Jisoo searches for Jennie amongst the crowd and sees her talking with some of her friends. Giving a proud smile, she turns back to face Jaehyun.

Jisoo: I know.

Jaehyun: But to me, I think that you are prettier noona.

Jisoo scoffs at the younger boy.

Jisoo: Aish this kid. What are you talking about, Jennie is way more prettier.

Jaehyun shook his head.

Jaehyun: You're wrong this time Noona, you are definitely prettier.

Jisoo: Jennie is.

Jaehyun: No she's not.

Jisoo: Ahh~ I already told you that I'm not prettier you little rice ball. Jennie is prettier, got it?

Jaehyun shook his head and giggled at the older girl's childish behavior.

Jaehyun: Alright, I give up. Jennie noona is much more prettier than you.

Jisoo smiled proudly that she had won the argument. But after seeing how Jaehyun had laughed at her, she had realized how embarrassingly she had acted by getting in an argument with a 9 year old.

Jisoo's face started to turn red out of embarrassment. However, after seeing how happy Jaehyun looks, she brushes it aside and smiles at the younger boy.

Jaehyun: So did you tell her the truth?

Jisoo shook her head.

Jisoo: Not yet.

Jaehyun stares at her confused.

Jaehyun: So she forgave you anyway?

Not wanting to complicate everything, Jisoo simply nodded to him.

Jisoo: Yeah... she forgave me.

Jaehyun beams a smile at her.

Jaehyun: That's great noona!

Jisoo's eyes start to tears up and she quickly tries to blink them away. Jaehyun pulls at Jisoo's dress and she looks back down at him.

Jaehyun: Why are you crying noona? Are you sad?

Jisoo: Of-of course not Jae.

Jaehyun: You're crying though. I saw water in your eyes. And my mom told me that when someone has water in there eyes then it means that they're crying because they're sad.

Jisoo: I'm not crying because I'm sad Jaehyun-ah. I'm crying... because I'm happy...

Jaehyun scratches his head.

Jaehyun: You can cry when you're happy?

Jisoo nodded.

Jisoo: Of course.

Jaehyun: Wow!

Jisoo laughs at his innocence.

Jisoo: Why don't you head back and play with your friends Jaehyun-ah. Oh and tell your mother I said hello.

Jaehyun: Okay, bye noona!

Jaehyun rushes back to his friends and continued playing from where they had left off.

Jisoo spots Chaeyoung and Lisa in the crowd and decides to approach them.

Jisoo: Chipmunk! Jolisa!

The couple turns to Jisoo and smiled at her.

Chaeyoung: Unnie!

Lisa: Wassup wassup man!

Jisoo laughs.

Jennie: You guys know each other?

The 3 girls turn to face Jennie as she makes her way towards them.

She came to a stop and looks at them confused.

Lisa clears before wrapping her arms around Chaeyoung's waist.

Lisa: Actually Chaeyoung here is my girlfriend Unnie.

Jennie: What?!

A few guests turned around at Jennie's outburst, but had then quickly returned to their conversations.

Jennie: Y-you and Rosé, Jisoo's secretary... are dating?

Lisa nods her head and Jennie whips her head around to face Jisoo.

Jennie: And you knew about this?

Jisoo: I just found out last week.

Jennie releases a sigh, baffled by the news and hurt that Lisa didn't tell her about it.

Jennie: Wow.

Lisa: I'm sorry for not telling you sooner Jennie Unnie. I just didn't know how.

Jennie: I-it's fine. You guys continue on, I-I'm gonna go.

Jennie quickly turns around and pushes her way through the crowd. Lisa gives Jisoo and Chaeyoung an apologizing look and gestures towards the direction Jennie had left.

Lisa: Sorry guys, I'm gonna go after her.

Chaeyoung smiles at her.

Chaeyoung: Go ahead Lisa, I'll wait for you here.

Jisoo nods in agreement.

Jisoo: Yeah, I'll keep Chae company while you're gone.

Lisa smiled at her in gratitude before rushing off to find Jennie.

Chaeyoung: How are you doing Unnie?

Jisoo shrugs her shoulders.

Jisoo: Not too bad.

Chaeyoung nods her head, seeming to believe her. Chaeyoung was about to say something to Jisoo, but was already beaten to it by a new voice amongst the crowd.

"Jisoo!"

The 2 girls turn towards the direction of the voice and spotted Seung-Gi.

Jisoo: Uncle Seung-Gi!

Chaeyoung: Mr. Lee.

The elder laughs and raises his glass of wine towards them.

Seung-Gi: Congratulations on your marriage Jisoo-ah!

Jisoo smiled back in gratitude.

Jisoo: Thanks Uncle, I appreciate it.

Seung-Gi nods in reply before turning to face Chaeyoung.

Seung-Gi: If you don't mind Rosé-shi, I would like to take a moment to talk to my niece in private?

Chaeyoung: Of course Mr. Lee, I'll leave you 2 alone.

Chaeyoung gives Jisoo a small smile and walks off to look for Lisa.

Jisoo turns back to Seung-Gi.

Jisoo: What do you want to talk to me about uncle?

Seung-Gi: It's nothing really. I just want to make sure if you're completely okay with this marriage.

Jisoo looks at him questioningly.

Jisoo: What do you mean?

Seung-Gi: Well... I just... You know... Do you know this girl well Jisoo? I mean 3 months isn't that long of a period of time. Did you get to know enough about her before deciding to marry her?

Jisoo: Of course Uncle. But why do you ask? Is there something wrong?

Seung-Gi: Nothing's wrong. Just be careful okay?

Jisoo looks at him weirdly and nodded slowly.

Jisoo: Okay?

Seung-Gi smiles and patted Jisoo's shoulder.

Seung-Gi: Okay Good. I'm gonna get going now. Take care Jisoo!

Jisoo: Bye Uncle.

Jisoo watches as Seung-Gi walked away. She was confused as to why the elder was behaving and talking so weirdly. Scratching the nape of her neck, she wondered about what Seung-Gi was talking about.

'Weird.'

•••

That night, Jennie officially moved into Jisoo's home. The 2 had decided to skip the honeymoon phase due to the load of work that has to be done due to the joining of the 2 companies.

Both Jisoo and Jennie had resided into their own rooms as soon as they had arrived at Jisoo's house. Although it had been a long day, neither girl was tired. Jisoo knowing that she wouldn't be able to sleep for the night, decided to head outside and take a walk around the park.

Little did she know, Jennie had the same idea. The 2 girls each stepped out of their room and came face to face with each other, both shocked that the other was still awake.

Jisoo: You're still awake?

Jennie: I can't sleep.

Jisoo: Me too.

Their conversation ended at that, both girls staring into each other's eyes in silence. Jennie, wanting to escape from the awkward atmosphere, decided to walk away first.

Jisoo: Where are you going?

Jennie turns back to face Jisoo before answering.

Jennie: To the park. I want to walk around a little.

Jisoo: I was about to do the same thing. Let's go together.

Jennie hesitated a little before nodding in agreement.

Jisoo felt the way her heart did a mini somersault as she saw Jennie's nod of approval. Smiling to herself, she grabs her jacket and followed Jennie down the stairs.

•••

The 2 girls only walked in silence, neither one making a move to start a conversation.

As they arrived at the park, Jisoo came to sit down on one of the swings. Jennie follows suit and sits down on the swing next to her.

They both swung around for a while in silence before Jisoo decided to speak up.

Jisoo: I'm sorry for getting you into this mess Jennie-ah.

Jennie stops swinging, but stayed quiet as she waited for Jisoo to continue.

Jisoo: I-I know that you despise me for what I did to you... and I'm sorry... I'm so sorry for everything that's happened. But I swear Jennie, that I would never do anything to hurt you... What you saw was a misunderstanding, and I wish that I could explain to you everything... but I can't. I just need you to trust me.

Jisoo turns to face Jennie, but the latter's expression was unreadable. Jennie hasn't responded, and Jisoo didn't know what else to say but stare at her.

Jennie: How can you expect me to believe you Jisoo? You've broken my trust long ago... I-I saw everything myself, not once but twice. There's nothing to explain because that's just it, there is no explanation because what I saw was true.

Jisoo: No Jennie it's not, you have to believe me.

Jennie sighed.

Jennie: Fine, let's say I do believe you, and everything that I saw that day was really just a misunderstanding, or it was just all a part of my imagination. You still can't change the fact that you hurt me nonetheless.

Turning to face Jisoo, Jennie continues.

Jennie: It... took me forever, to finally get over you. And when I've finally done it and found happiness of my own, I'm forced to break up with my boyfriend and into this complicated marriage with you. There's no explanation for this Jisoo. We've both gone way too far for there to even be an us anymore. The only reason I had agreed to this marriage was because of my parents. So please, please respect me and our contract... I-I don't want to be hurt anymore.

Jisoo: Jennie I—

Jisoo looks down to her feet. If she told Jennie everything now, there was no doubt that the younger will be hurt. Jisoo didn't want that.

If Jennie wanted to happy then so be it. Jisoo turns back to face Jennie and put on a strained smile.

Jisoo: I promise. I'll respect you in whatever you want Jennie.

Jennie: Thank you.

And that was the end of their conversation. They both continued to swing around until dawn in each other's presence.

The atmosphere was stiff and awkward, but Jisoo didn't care. She was there with Jennie, and that was all that mattered.

Chapter 62: just realized...Memories by Maroon5 i a somewhat classical but fitting song for the last chapter. i just realized i had only commented on the middle section of this story. I have to say that overall, even though this is not a new concept, it was still entertaining to read and surely brought me lots of pleasure. the ending was pretty bittersweet and the overall story was nicely written. thank you again for bringing us this story.

Chapter 62: IMHO, this was probably one of the stories that didn't have much of a thick plot, but it was still a good "skim&scan" story to me. Thx author!
