Chapter 2

Backstage Dream

Seohyun heard the cheers and screaming of fans as she breathed heavily in her ending pose. SNSD had just finished their performance at Gayo Daejun, and she had almost forgotten why she loved what she did- the audience. The rush they gave her when she performed was like no other, and she wouldn't give it up for anything. When the lights went out, she hurried off stage with her unnies and down into the backstage area. It was very crowded behind the scenes, as many SM groups were performing at the program this year.

EXO was one of them.

As she walked between Tiffany, the unnie she was in a subunit with called TTS, and Taeyeon, the leader of SNSD and the other member of TTS, Seohyun couldn't help but crane her neck to try to spot Luhan. She had practiced with him after group practice for about a week now, and everyday she grew more and more fascinated with him. There was something about the way he danced, and Seohyun couldn't stop thinking about him. She thought about him when she practiced with her unnies, she thought about him while performing on stage, she thought about him as soon as she woke up every morning and before she fell asleep every night. Truth be told, Seohyun had never thought about a boy like this before. In fact, her unnies always used to about her "high standards" when it came to men.

But Luhan was different.

There was this magic about him, and Seohyun was already under his spell.

Suddenly, she heard Taeyeon clear . "Luhan-ssi, it's nice to see you again."

"Taeyeon sunbaenim," he replied respectfully, bowing at all of the girls in SNSD.

Seohyun locked eyes with him in an instant, and the most charming smile she had ever seen slowly began to spread on his face. It made his eyes sparkle and his face look even more handsome than usual.

Seohyun felt her heart flutter.

"Ah, Seohyun, this is Luhan oppa," Taeyeon introduced.

The smile vanished in an instant.

"Seohyun sunbaenim," Luhan bowed. Seohyun couldn't help but feel her heart sink in disappointment. He pretended they didn't know each other? But then what did the smile mean?

As she smiled back tightly, Seohyun could only feel confusion cloud her mind.

And then he was gone, off to perform on the stage she was just on.

"Want to take a break?" Luhan asked as he turned down the music in the practice studio. Seohyun nodded eagerly, exhausted from dancing the same steps over and over again. They sat down next to each other next to the air conditioner in an attempt to cool off, drinking water and taking deep breaths.

Luhan stole glances at Seohyun secretly. She was beautiful, he couldn't deny it. She was a great dancer, but he loved her voice more. She was shy singing around him at first, but she slowly warmed up to the idea, and Luhan couldn't believe she could ever be embarrassed about that voice. Her voice was usually soft and angelic, but every once in a while, she would sing a more emotional song, and her voice would have this grit to it that made her sound like she had already experienced love and loss, and life and death, despite her youth. Her voice had feeling, and Luhan was surprised at how good she was at conveying that.

He glanced at Seohyun again, and noticed an open notebook in her lap. His eyes drifted down to it, but before he could read it, Seohyun slammed it shut with her legs. He looked back at up her now embarrassed and red face.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to-"

"It's okay," she cut him off. "I- I'm just shy about my songwriting."

Luhan stared at her in shock. A maknae songwriter? He had never heard of such a thing. "You write?"

Seohyun nodded shyly in response. "You know, in Chinese we have a phrase, 多才多艺. It means talented in many different things. You really are 多才多艺."

Seohyun blushed, and Luhan grinned. "Come on, let's work on your other talents now."

Luhan couldn't wipe the grin off his face for the rest of practice.

***

A couple days later, Luhan and Seohyun were dancing together when Luhan stubbed his toe while landing in a complex move. He swore loudly in Chinese as he grabbed his foot in pain. Seohyun rushed over to make sure he was okay, and they sat down for an overdue break as Luhan nursed his toe. He noticed Seohyun staring at him strangely out of the corner of his eye, her captivating gaze half of concern and half of curiosity.

"Is something the matter?" he finally asked.

Seohyun quickly looked away, her cheeks tinged a slight pink. Luhan couldn't help but grin boyishly. "N-nothing, I was just wondering what you said earlier when you stubbed your toe."

Luhan laughed out loud. She was so innocent. "I swore in Chinese. It's just instinct."

Seohyun cracked a smile as well, turning back to face Luhan. "Could you teach me?" She suddenly she seemed to realize what she was asking, and began to stutter, "I-If you want to, I didn't-"

"I would love to, Juhyun," Luhan found himself saying reassuringly. How could he say no to her? Especially when it would make her closer to him. In fact, maybe she wanted to be closer to him as well. Otherwise why would she want Chinese lessons? "How about we finish practice first, then I'll teach you."

Seohyun smiled gratefully, still slightly flustered. "Thanks."

"First word I'll teach you," Luhan grinned. "谢谢。Thank you."

Seohyun seemed slightly uneasy, but repeated what he said to the best of her ability. "谢谢。“

Luhan grinned. Her pronunciation wasn't bad. "You're welcome is 不用客气。And your pronunciation is really good for a first-timer."

Seohyun couldn't help but blush bashfully. "谢谢。“

Luhan laughed at her cuteness. "不用客气。“
