Roses are Red and So are You
Coffee BreakEleven o’clock in the evening and Youngjae wasn’t even able to move from his spot ever since he grabbed his pen and sat there right after he got back from Daehyun’s office.
Three solid knocks on the door made him flinch.
“Did I disturb you?” Yongguk, Zelo’s project leader and three years Youngjae’s senior was holding the knob and peering at him with a gentle smile on his face. The kind of smile that a dad would offer to his son who’s working on his homework until late at night. “I’m going home now. Do you need help with anything before I go?”
“Thank you hyung but I’m also almost done here so it’s okay,” Youngjae tried not to grimace as he looked over the mess on top of his working table.
“Well if you say so. Just don’t overwork yourself and be sure to go home before twelve. Bye.”
“Nae hyung. Good work for today.” Youngjae smiled back but as soon as the door closed, he slumped himself on his chair and slapped his face hard with both hands. “Ouch. That hurt,” he scolded himself right away though.
Bang Yongguk is the kindest soul Youngjae have ever met. He's hardworking, patient and virtuous. Everyone respects him and the only mystery Youngjae could not solve ever is--Himchan detests the guy. He had asked his friend a couple of times but he just shrugs it off as just a minor annoyance.
Youngjae's mind stopped wandering when another pain resurfaced. “Oh that’s right. My back hurts since morning. Damn it. This is all Himchan’s fault. That ,” he fumed.
Three knocks on his door again.
“Did you forget something hyung?” Youngjae asked as he straightened his posture. It’s not very good for his image to be seen while on the act of being an old man with a backache.
But when the door opened, it revealed the nerd accountant instead. Youngjae froze for a second but he relaxed when he realized that the oozing appeal Daehyun had earlier was gone.
“I’m sorry. Were you expecting someone else?” Daehyun asked, holding a steaming cup. From the aroma it gives off, Youngjae suspects a lemonated coffee and it made his mouth water.
“Not really,” he shrugged but his eyes were glued on the cup. “Is that for me?”
Daehyun smiled, “If you let me in then this is yours.”
“Come in. You are the coffee’s guardian after all.”
The older let out a low chuckle at the remark. His eyes sparkled while his nose crinkled in an ugly manner and his lips stretched into a wide grin, his face revealing cute whisker dimples. Youngjae let out a sigh of relief. The Daehyun that he encountered earlier is definitely not the same Daehyun walking towards him. Safe. Or so he would like to think.
The warmth he felt when their skin brushed against each other as he took the cup, sent tingling sensations down his spine. He shuddered but he just blamed the AC for it. “How did you know I was still here?” he asked not really minding if he sounded stupid or not.
Daehyun occupied the empty chair in front of his desk and replied, “Because you weren’t ther
