Seoul Sports – An Interview With National Football Striker/Arsenal Winger Yoo Si-jin We conducted an interview with the injured Arsenal player via a video call from our office in Seoul all the way to Yoo Si-jin’s cozy looking apartment in one of the most influential neighborhoods in London, Hampstead Village. Q : Good morning Yoo Si-jin Ssi. A : Good afternoon, Seoul Sports. Q : How are you today? How is your leg? A : I’m doing fantastic, thank you. Well, except for the little fractured ankle problem. *laughs* Q : It’s great to see that you’re in such a great mood after the whirlwind weekend you just had. A : *smiles* A whirlwind weekend? Did I have one? Q : Your move from FC Seoul to Arsenal was predicted since the rumors started surfacing earlier this year. Now that you are there, how do you feel? A : It’s always a little unnerving moving from one place to another, just like anyone else who wants to move from one workplace to another. Luckily, the team here welcomes me with open arms. I’m having a blast playing with Arsenal and learning from the rest of the team. Q : How about our own national team? A : Well, unfortunately I won’t be able to join our national team for the last World Cup qualification match next month, but I will definitely join them at the World Cup next year. Premiere League will be over in May and I will go straight to South Korea to train before we leave for Russia. That’s always my agreement with Mr Wenger, 9 months in London and 3 in Seoul. Q : There’s a rumor about you finally holding our national team’s captain title during the World Cup. A : *laughs* you know what they say about rumors…don’t believe it unless there’s proof. Q : Speaking of rumors, you’ve been inundated with many rumors regarding your personal life lately. A : *laughs even harder* Hah, I see how you smoothly segue into that! Clever. Q : If you please, Yoo Si-jin Ssi, if you can allow us the honor. It’s so rare to get an interview from you and even rarer to get one from Kang Mo-yeon Ssi. A : Well, what can I say? Both of us are private people, we don’t even have any social media accounts. All I can say is she is an absolutely wonderful person, and when you have someone like that in your life, you would never let them go, wouldn’t you? Q : Even if a famous idol tries to steal her away from you? A : First of all, Kang Mo-yeon Ssi is a strong and capable person that can make her own decision, not a trophy to be won or stolen from. *smirks* That being said, you know what makes a great athlete? It’s their commitment, resilience and competitiveness to come out on top. What you’ve seen when I’m on the field, that’s who I am in my personal life too. Q : Thank you for spending your time with us, Yoo Si-jin Ssi. We wish you good luck in your recovery. Lastly, you don’t have to answer this but is Kang Mo-yeon Ssi there with you right now? A : *laughs* What do you think? I’ll let you guess, is she here or not, ommo-- We were caught speechless as something suddenly landed right in the middle of Yoo Si-jin’s forehead in front of our very eyes. It bounced onto his lap and we watched as Yoo Si-jin picked it up (it turned out to be a rumpled piece of paper) before he started laughing very hard as he said goodbye to us and turned the camera off. Who do you think threw the paper ball at him? We personally suspect that Yoo Si-jin is not the only one who knows how to give a perfect aim, perhaps he had taught his girlfriend a lesson or two during their time in London. "Hmmm….smells good." Mo-yeon snickers as Si-jin wraps his arms around her waist. "What? Me or the kimchi jiggae?" He takes a long sniff as she squirms a little when his nose tickles her ear. "I was talking about the food but you smell delicious too." She just snorts in amusement. "I still can’t believe you don’t know how to cook Korean food. You're so good at cooking healthy western meals though." Si-jin just grins as he watches her stir the hot bubbling stew as the delicious smell wafts through the air. It's the first time the apartment ever smells like this. He tightens his hold on his girlfriend. It's the first time the flat truly feels like home. "Healthy food is easy..." he begins, "most are just grilled, baked or steam with simple seasoning. Korean food however needs to be prepared with love." She just shakes her head without another reply although in her mind she agrees with him. "What time is your assistant coming to pick you up?" "John? Around another hour so we have time to eat. You'll like him, babe. He’s a good kid." "I'm sure I will. Are you sure you don't need me to come with you?" "Nah. Just stay and rest okay. Maybe pack a little but we’re coming back anyway so no need to pack much. I just need a confirmation from the doctor that I can travel and then we're all set." "Now you need a confirmation? You weren't thinking about that when you crashed into me while you rushed to the airport last Monday." He tickles her waist in retaliation to her sassy response. Mo-yeon lets out a soft gasp before she gives him a smack on his chest in return. He just laughs as he limps away to start preparing the table for their breakfast. "Haish….I wasn't thinking straight then. My only thought was getting back to you. Getting back to you no matter what." Mo-yeon turns
