swimming with you
Short Fiction for Dahyun
Her hand gingerly dabbles in the shallow depths of the blue. Testing both herself, and the temperature of what awaited her. “I can’t do it.” She concedes, recoiling back to the perimeter deemed as safe.
“Of course you can Dahyun.” The latter encourages with a zealous smile that hardly comforts her nerves.
“I’ll drown.” Dahyun refutes followed by the aggressive shaking of her head.
“Come on now Dahyun, you basically begged me to teach you. I’m even wearing your favourite swimsuit.” Momo persuasively coerces, as she wades nearer to the edge of the pool.
“But it’s cold.” Dahyun lamely grumbles in defence, toes squirming away from Momo’s reach.
“I’ll keep you warm silly,” Momo says as she playfully splashes her and dives under.
Momo’s foolish words have her convinced, or more so it was her alluring appearance that had baited her interest. Dahyun bravely plunges in. At first, she’s okay. She’s slowly making her way to Momo but the fear jolts her, and her foot slips pulling her under. The panic kicks in, and she’s thrashing in the water, desperately clawing for surface. The ripples mockingly mirror her erratic movements to stay afloat. She can’t hold it any longer, and involuntary takes a breath inhaling water rather than air. What seemed like a pregnant pause of horror to Dahyun, was really only fleeting seconds. Momo was already beside her, arms gliding through
