How Would You Feel

Honeymoon With A Stranger

How would you feel, if I told you I loved you?
It's just something that I want to do

(How Would You Feel - Ed Sheeran [my favorite red head])

"So, that court drama... That wasn't because of your mom's tax evasion case?" Wheein asked still trying to fathom Byul's confession.

After Yongsun overheard and questioned her converstaion by the poolside, Byul tried to convince her that it was just a silly joke between her and her new friend who she dubbed as 'dad' but from the look of the older woman, she knew she's not fooling anyone. She already felt guilty for lying and snapping at their maknae earlier and the guilt of more lies wasn't helping her at all. Giving up, she asked if there was anyway they could have the dinner in their suite instead so that she could tell her what had happened a month ago with the rest of the group. She wasn't about to tire herself from repeating the same story three times.

"Yes and no. It was both." She answered.

"And you're really married?"  Hyejin asked. "Legally, I mean. Not just the church wedding and stuff."

"Yes. We got married in a consulate and signed the papers." Byul answered and turned to Yongsun knowing she'd take her turn to ask the next question.

"Okay. Just to recap; your money-hungry witch of a mother sold you to this mentally sick old man who needed to be institutionized but before he got to legally make you his wife this - I'm guessing - handsome man came riding in like a prince in a white horse and swooped you in. Then, his father - who we met last month and simply seemed to adore our Hyejinnie - helped get your papers process for marriage because there is no other alternative and then, for your honeymoon, the two of you flew to New Caledonia, where you spent almost a month hiding out until your phone call from Seul which explains your phone call to me. And when you finally came home, you got the police involved in this case and found out that that dirty old man got arrested a few days before your arrival home. Your mom and everyone in the company she worked with got slapped with human trafficking and got locked up. Seul-bear moved in full time in the dorm and here we are now." Yongsun rambled and looked around to see Wheein gaping at her, Hyejin looking at her crazy, and Byul nodding. "Did I forget something?"

"Yeah." Hyejin scoffed. "You forgot to breath."

The girls laughed for a moment until Yongsun asked some unanswered questions. "You never really told us his name. Are you going to tell us who he is?"

Byul looked around and saw that both Wheein and Hyejin are curious too. Although she already told them the story, she still wasn't ready to reveal who he is. And it seem's Yongsun understood.

"Okay. Let's forget the name for now but I need you to answer one thing for me," She saidand something about the way she talked made Byul not want to answer yet she nodded anyway. "Do you love him?"

After his father told him the real reason of his wife leaving in a rush and thinking back on how he basically ignored all her attempts of reaching out to him, he could definitely call himself an immature selfish jerk. In the first place at the back of his head, he knew that his wife had a major reason as to why she had to leave just like that and all he had to do was to pick up the phone to get the answers. Had he just gotten past his pride and called her back then maybe he wouldn't be drowning in his own stupidity.

"Should I fix us up some dinner or would you prefer to eat at your Alani's before you go?"  His father asked walking into the room.

"Ma almost bashed me in the head with a rolling pin when I came back after running off without telling her goodbye. I'd be both crazy and stupid to leave without telling her before." Kyujong answered with a grin after remembering how his surrogate mother got so mad at him for leaving without a word and coming back without his wife.

"Maybe if she had bashed you in the head, we wouldn't be having this conversation right now." The old man remarked.

"Really, dad? You're going to let ma bash your only son in the head?" He watched as his father shrugged. "Dad."

"Well, if it could've helped knock some sense into you, why not?" Kyujong scoffed in disbelief. "You know what, I think I should stay one more day just so we can go and have your mental state checked on. I might need to start looking for a nurse or an orderly or even a home for you."

Sungkyu laughed at his son taking one bag on his hand while wrapping the other on his boy's shoulder. "Come on. Alani's probably prepared you a feast."

After stopping by at Alani's cafe and chowing down as much food of hers that he coould take,  Kyujong said his goodbyes and headed to the airport by himself. When the plane finally landed, it's still dark out which could only mean that the sun won't be out anytime soon. Wearing his cap and a pair of glasses, he stepped blended into the crowd not wanting to be noticed by anybody. Thankfully, his dad suggested him not to shave just yet and use the facial hair as a natural disguise.

He then hitched a cab that drove him to his condo but not before consulting with the building security guard just to make sure that his crazy ex is nowhere in sight.

"Let's start with the phone calls." Kyujong told himself as soon as he took his shoes off.

Leaving the last message, he thought he would've crashed by now but because of the time zone, his mind and body feels a little wonked out and still won't let him sleep. So, like a sleep deprived zombie, he sat there thinking of his next moves just in case some of his plans fails when his phone rang and a familiar number came to view.

Smiling, he slid answer button and said, "Isn't it a little early for you to be calling back?"

"Isn't a little early for you to be waking people with your voice mail?" The other line retorted and he couldn't help but grin. Smart kid. "Touche, Hyejinnie. So, want to meet up today for breakfast? My treat."

"Tempting... But I can't. I'm on a vacation trip with my unnies for the weekend and we won't be home until tomorrow morning." Hyejin answered.

"You know, I really need to meet these unnies you keep talking about. They sound like really good people." He said with a note on his voice that did not escape the younger girl's notice.

"Ha! Not until you deal with that demented woman who still calls herself as you're fiancee. And by the by, you owe me big time. I almost got caught in her crosshair when I went to change the code in your condo which by the way was a total mess when I went there. And before you say anything, I had your manager take care of everything before I changed the code." She said matter of factly.

Kyujong didn't realize it when he first came in but when he looked around, the room significantly looked more different. "Wow. Thanks. I really owe you a big one don't I?"

"Why, yes. Yes, you do." Hyejin remarked amusing him. "Where are you by the way?"

"Gyongpo BeachHold on.'" She answered and he could hear her talking to someone in the background. "And I'm back. Did you know that there's a rumor your ex is trying everything she can to stop your company from making an official statement about your breakup despiute it being a public one during a private event with some media coverage? And oh, it's not a rumor. I was visiting a friend at a two weeks ago when I saw her and your manager talking - well, she b*tched at your manager and blackmailed her that if they did confirm the breakup, she'd be doing something harsh to really ruin everything you've worked hard on. I don't really know what it was but I think it's really something big."

His groaning made the girl laugh in the background. "You have got to be kidding me." "Nope." "God! That leech! If she's going to play it that way, then I guess I have no choice."

"What ever plan you have oppa, I suggest you keep it to yourself. There's a mole in your company who's making quite the cash selling bits of info on your where abouts... Quick! Turn the TV on to *** channel!

Kyujong picked up the remote and did just that. As soon as his eyes saw the report and a photo of him in his current features, he knew he's plan of hiding out for a couple of days is screwed. "You got to be kidding me!"

"Did you call anyone besides me since you came back?" Hyejin asked from the background.

"Yes. My manager, the CEO, Eric, Henry and... Yeah, that's about it." He answered. "But there's another one, right?"

Kyujong stayed quiet for a minute watching photos of him in the airport and getting in the cab being played in the tv. "Yes. But I don't think she would do something like this."

"She, huh? Are you sure about that?" The doubt in her voice was underrstandable but he knew otherwise. "Yes. If anything, the gossip media would be hounding hard on the company if she'd betray me."

"What are you doing up early? Who's that?" Byul asked the minute she walked out of the room and saw Hyejin on the phone. She watched as the maknae covered the receiver to answer her. "A close friend."

Byul crossed her brows. "It's still half past four, you should be sleeping still."

"Don't worry, unnie. I'll be done in a few." She answered and saw she was in her jeans. "What about you? Are you going out or something?"

"Yeah. I'm going to the mart, want me to get you something?" Hyejin listed down a couple of snacks and Byul grabbed Yongsun's keys before heading out.

The truth was, Byul only wanted to head out to the balcony and listen to the voicemail that woke her minutes ago but because Hyejin was awake, she decided on a drive instead. With Yongsun's car, she drove out to the sunrise lookout, parked the car and stayed inside. She then took her phone out and hesitantly played the voicemail. For the next ten seconds, their was no sound until she heard him clear his throat.

"Uhm, yeah. Hi. I-it's... It's me. Uhm... It's been a while hasn't it?

There was pause before she heard him speak again but not after the sigh.

"Who am I kidding... Byulyi-ah... I'm sorry. I'm sorry I didn't pick up everytime you called. I'm sorry I never bother returning your calls. I'm sorry for basically ignoring you. But what I'm really sorry about is, the fact that I left you alone to handle everything by yourself."

Wait... W-what? H-how? Byul never told him the reason why she had to leave all of a sudden and she did plan on telling him when he decided to finally pick up her calls but after how many tries, she just let it go and stopped making a fool of herself. There could only be one person who could've told him because even though the arrest and tear down of the establishment and their employees went public, the names of the victims and witnesses were never revealed to the public. Dad.

"If dad hasn't told me about it, I would probably still be holed up in my own immaturity thinking the worst of you. And I had I actually picked up that first call, I would guess that you would've told me about it. I'm just... I'm really sorry, Byulyi. I know it's quite late but I'm not... I'm not giving up. And no. I'm not saying you did. I know I basically exhausted you and made you feel hopeless but that's all on me."

She heard him groan in frustration and she couldn't help but let out a small laugh. He's always cute when he's a little bothered.

"I'm going in circles here. Byulyi-ah. I know I'll be apologizing for as long as until you forgive me but I'm not going to do just that. I don't exactly know what to do but just say the words and I'll do everything for you. I just wish that you'd.... Will you meet with me? I know it's a lot to ask... I... I just miss you so much. I know you're not ready to meet me just yet, but when you are, just call me. I'll come to you, Byulyi. Please. Please just call me. I love you."

The message ended and she was left hanging on what to do next.

After sitting for hours in the car, Byul woke to her senses when her phone started ringing. She looked at it and saw Yongsun's name plastered on the screen.

"Yeah. Hi." She greeted.

"Where are you? Hyejinnie said you went out hours ago for snacks but you're still not back." Yongsun inquired immediately and she could hear the worry in her voice.

"Change of plan. I'm bringing take out. What do you want?" She asked. She wasn't deflecting per se, she could easily answer the question, she just chose to answer it when she gets back at the hotel. And she did just that while they all sat by the table enjoying the bountiful breakfast she bought for them.

Chapter 23: This couple...! So soft, especially at the scene where they were looking at the baby bump. I really like how Kyujong knows what's on Byul's mind. I enjoy the parallels to previous chapters. Looking forward to the next one!
