A graceful performance

Girl meets Boy

“We need perform today,” Taehyung said once we’d run through the routine, breathing heavily.

“We’ve pretty much got it spot on,” I responded, gulping down some water.

“Again,” he pressed, grabbing my hand, pulling me to the middle of the practice room.

“Seriously?” I sighed, dragging my feet as he tugged my arm.

“We need to get perfect!”

“Fine,” I grumbled.

And so we ran through the dance again, still putting in double the effort as before despite beads of sweat trailing down our faces like a stream.

As soon as we’d completed the last move I rolled off Taehyung to the floor in a heap, breathing heavily, puffing out strands of hair that stuck to my face.

“I don’t think I can perform this today,” I gasped, wafting my hands in front of my face.

“At least it perfect,” I turned my head to my left and noticed Taehyung smiling to himself on the floor next to me. Whenever he smiled it made me smile also… it was nice to know someone who could make you feel like that with just their smile.

“What you look at?” He asked, snapping me out of my thoughts.

“I-err, nothing haha,” I stuttered, springing up from the floor, trying to hide my flushed face.

“Balo dangsindeul, dangsin-i gong-yeon hal sigan-iya!” The teacher’s voice boomed outside our practice room.

“Arasso!” Taehyung yelled back.

“What did he say?” I sighed, dragging my feet towards the door, half knowing what the answer would be.

“We go perform now,” Taehyung stated happily, taking my hand.

Just as I thought *sigh.

“Let go, I want see others dance!” Taehyung beamed tugging at my arm.

“Seriously, calm down, you don’t want to waste your energy before we dance,” I grumbled, grabbing his hand fiercely.

“Aish, you get too angry,” he giggled. I glared at him all the way to the main studio. I stopped glaring at him however when the transfer student suddenly jumped on him.

You’ve got to be kidding me!

I just sighed and nudged away, not wanting to be close to IT.

“I wish I was paired with you Tae Tae, the guy I’m paired with isn’t nice to me,” I heard her whiny voice screech.

I grimaced and moved further away, bumping into someone, “ah, sorry.”

“Eunsol?” The voice sounded familiar, so I whisked my head around.

“Oh, Jimin!” I exclaimed, laughing slightly.

“Why you no with Taehyung?” He asked, pulling a confused expression.

“Well…” I trailed off and looked towards the grovelling transfer student who was tightly clung to Taehyung.

“Ah, I see,” Jimin almost sounded sympathetic, but then laughed when he looked over my shoulder, “he say he need help.”

I furrowed my brow and looked towards Taehyung, noticing his pleading face staring at Jimin. I couldn’t help but giggle.

“Should I go and snatch him off her?” I asked Jimin.

“But you leave me then,” he whined.

“Come with me then, and tell her to move,” I suggested, an evil glint flashing across my eyes.

“Okay, okay!” Jimin grinned and stood up. I walked over to Taehyung with Jimin, the evil grin never leaving our faces.

“Hi Tae!” I mused, sitting on his other side, linking his arm with mine and forcefully tugging him over.

“Excuse me, I want sit there,” Jimin said to the transfer student who was giving me daggers. I looked up and saw Jimin smiling in a charming way, a way which any girl would fall in love with.

“O-Okay,” the transfer student stuttered, edging away.

“Gomabseubnida,” Jimin chorused, placing himself next to Taehyung, playfully linking his arm with Tae’s as well.

“Aish, Jimin-hyung. I only link arm with Eunsol-ah,” Taehyung moaned, smirking afterwards.

“You so mean!” Jimin pouted, punching Taehyung’s arm.

“Da-eum, Taehyeon, Eunsol,” the teacher read out.

“Is this us?” I asked shakily.

“Mm,” Taehyung responded. He stood up and helped me get up after, pulling me to the front of the class.

All of a sudden, I felt all of my muscles weaken when I saw how many eyes were staring up at us.

Great, my nerves have gotten the better of me.

“It okay Eunsol-ah, do as practiced,” Taehyung whispered in my ear, squeezing my hand reassuringly. I tried to convince myself that his words put me at ease, but instead they made my mind go blank and I started panicking.

“I don’t think I can do this Taehyung,” I hissed, shaking endlessly.

“You can, and call me Tae, ne?” He chuckled.

“Now isn’t the time to focus on what bloody name to call you!” I growled, waiting for the music to start. Both getting in our starting positions I breathed deeply, trying to calm every jittery nerve in my body. I tensed my muscles to prevent the shaking, but I found that it made the shaking more obvious.

God damn it, stop shaking will you?!

At last, the music started. The softness of the piano introduction was soothing in a sense, so I felt relieved, and my muscles started to calm down. Lifting my right arm, gracefully in the air, I arched my back and slid my left foot backwards, bringing my right hand down to my face. I acted as if my hand was pulling my head, left, right, up and down, slowly descending to the floor where I sat and curled into a ball, waiting for Taehyung to complete his introduction before pulling me from the floor.

The entrance of the violins quietly increased in volume as I felt Taehyung’s hands move up my arms, and then the sides of my neck; I lifted my head slowly and carefully stood up whilst Taehyung held my waist, guiding me against his chest.

Okay, introduction complete.

I found that my arms tingled every time Tae held them, and my heart beat increased. I tried to assure myself that it was just the intense movements of the dance, but I couldn’t deny that an inexperienced emotion washed through me every time.

With many graceful movements, it was time for the hardest part of the dance. As I swayed my body I made eye contact with Tae, asking him if he was ready. Blinking, I took that as my signal to run, carefully placing my feet on the ground, making sure I had enough bounce in the ball of my foot. I came closer to Taehyung, praying and hoping we wouldn’t screw up the dramatic scene.

Lunging from the floor I grasped onto Taehyung’s shoulders as his hands gripped my waist, firmly spinning me around.

Geez, thank god for that!

The action was smooth, and I made sure my posture was exactly as expected. I looked down at Taehyung and saw his eyes gaze into mine… they were somewhat filled with tender emotions, caring, loving emotions, and I could feel my heart puncture.

Now we reached the conclusion of the dance; I placed my head against his shoulder, nuzzling into his neck as he gently lifted my legs onto his arm, his other holding my back, slowly reaching the ground. Placing my other arm around his neck the ending of the song had arrived.

Silence filled the room for a good five seconds, and all you could hear was mine and Taehyung’s heavy breathing; when all of a sudden, an eruption of applauses filled the room, and I couldn’t help but smile in relief.

“We did it,” I gasped, standing up along with Taehyung. Suddenly, I felt myself been pulled into his chest as he strongly wrapped his arms around me, moving side to side.

“Well done, Lim Eunsol,” Taehyung said happily. Forgetting that we were in front of our whole class, I coughed and pulled away gently, brightly smiling up at Tae.

I turned around to face everyone, bowing along with Taehyung, noticing a pair of eyes burning holes through my head. I smirked and pulled Tae closer, enjoying the constant applause we received. However, I couldn’t help but notice a certain sadness in Jimin’s eyes, that kept glancing at mine and Taehyung’s intertwined fingers. Despite him smiling and clapping, he couldn’t hide how he truly felt, and for some reason I felt the growing sensation of guilt arouse through my body.
