They weren’t outnumbered, but they were losing the battle. R.O.P. stood by in silence, watching the fallen warriors who fought for the same purpose. Whatever plan Baekhyun and Heejin came up with, the frown on their faces spoke of their upcoming failure.
“Do you have a plan?” Daeyang asked him, seeing the seriousness sinking in his frown.
The former king rubbed his fingers against chin, humming out loud. His eyes scanned Hoya and Jihye, the grey and brown werewolves fighting each other like the clash of two strong opposites. Someone seemed to be missing.
At that moment, a large diamond shaped staff swung in front of his vision, merely smashing him if he hadn’t avoided in time. Right, he hadn’t seen Biah.
“Yeah, I have a plan,” R.O.P. answered the elven leader. He smirked smugly, raising his arms midway towards the dead creature. “What a powerful attack! But you are wasting your energy on the wrong person.”
“What?” Biah questioned with an innocent tone.
“Haven’t you heard? Namjoon wants you to fight off Hoya,” R.O.P. said, blinking his eyes with feigned surprise. “They have equal strength, and no one will win if this carries on.”
Biah furrowed her eyebrows, watching the battle. The goblin spoke the truth. For several minutes, no one had the upperhand in the battle and they seemed to be sparring instead of trying to kill each other.
“Namjoon may not say it, but he will reward you greatly if you help him win,” R.O.P. boldly placed his arms around her shoulders. “You saw how that… Nari something turned to soil when she was defeated, didn’t you? That could be you.”
Biah flinched, not knowing when R.O.P. had drawn a sword with his hand. What she thought was a casual arm over the shoulder move turned out to be a tactic to shove a dagger against .
“Namjoon could reward you greatly if you help him out,” R.O.P. said, playfully swinging the blade in front of her neck.
Biah could feel the cold tip of the metal brushing against her skin. She looked conflicted, but it didn’t take more than two seconds for her to charge into the battle between the werewolves.
Interesting. Though these creatures were the living death, they maintained their personalities and had their own desires and aspirations. He didn’t think he could convince her, but she was chasing a new life.
“Hey! What is Biah doing?” Jineul asked, noticing the other who easily entered the barricade.
Sungjong quickly rushed over to retrieve her by force, but before he could enter the forcefield, a sharp object flung towards his throat. The power forced him to fall backwards, a small dagger landing where his Adam’s apple was. He turned to soil at once.
“Don’t meddle with my efforts,” R.O.P. spoke, grinning at Jineul who looked at him with hatred and ready for vengeance. Again, such a realistic emotion of the living dead. In that case, his plan to unleash Hoya’s beastly side might just work.
Hoya held Jihye off, blocking her attacks from the left, evading her kicks from the right. Due to his heavy built, Hoya couldn’t calculate the speed of his attacks. He was too calculative, trying to make sense of it all while Jihye helped him practice.
Trapped in his own thoughts, he never saw the ambush coming. In a flash, a cold object pierced him from the back, penetrating through his grey fur. He roared out loud, falling to his knees. Never would he expect the culprit to be Biah, his wife.
Even Jihye stood perplexed.
“Mind if I join, Ho oppa?” Biah asked, smiling sweetly at her husband who stood bleeding on the floor.
Hoya looked up, meeting the eyes of his beloved. He panted from the extreme blood loss, rising his chest with difficulties. She looked so innocent and angelic, yet, she had the greatest probability of annihilating him.
“You wouldn’t possibly kill me, would you?” Biah tilted her head sideways. The sweet grin morphed into a dark twist, a devil’s face fleeting by. With the staff ready, she tried to attack him once more.
Hoya was too stunned to move, unable to evade the sudden attack. Biah stabbed his side again, and he felt the pain of a freshly cut open wound. But nothing, nothing, hurt as much as the mental pain inflicted by a loved one.
“Hooo, good work Biah,” Jihye spoke, nodding her approval. “Once I finish off your husband, my dark magic would become stronger. I could reward you with immortal life. You could become my queen.”
Hoya’s eyes widened. His pulse quickened. His claws dug into his own skin.
“Oh, I would love that,” Biah uttered in delight, clasping her hands together, looking at Jihye with a loving look. “I would love to be your queen, King Wendigo.”
Hoya’s heart shattered. He knew it was surreal. He knew these images were a lie. But pain emerged newfound strength when she spoke of her affections for another man. She was so eager to get rid of him in order to live with Namjoon, King Wendigo, and he couldn’t accept it.
No, it wasn’t his wife. It wasn’t Lee Biah. The creature looked like Biah, but it wasn’t her. Yet, she had the audacity to try and pretend to be Biah. To create a surrealism whereby he’d be harmed and murdered by the person he loved the most. It was Namjoon’s fault. Everything was Namjoon’s fault.
Hoya roared out loud, tearing the fur from his body out of agony. Frustrations and anger dwelled within his body, generating strength to do what was right. Namjoon was toying with them all since the very beginning. How many lives had they lost because of Namjoon? It wasn’t only Biah, but his fellow comrades. If Namjoon wasn’t stopped, the murders would foreshadow the bleak future awaiting Ephemerus.
He ignored the pain in his back and abdomen, almost feeling it becoming non existent. He rose up to his feet, towering over the other two. Their sight repulsed him, like two tiny insects he was eager to rip apart. His mind went blank. His logic disappeared. He wanted to destroy.
So Hoya took the Biah imposter by her head, feeling the ease to carry a dead creature within his claws. He let his piercing nails sink into her forehead, using brute strength to rip her entire body apart like pieces of paper. She was crying and screaming, calling him loving names, but he muted them into oblivion. As he pulled her body further apart, it tore into grains of soil, withering unto the ground.
Hoya turned to Jihye, gritting his teeth as hungry saliva drooled down his chin. His fangs elongated, protruding from his mouth to show off his dangerous nature. His pupils disappeared, leaving a solid golden shimmer to fill up the entire space in his eyes. It was vicious, no longer that of a human or a werewolf. This was the true form of a hybrid child gone berserk.
“Remarkable,” Jihye spoke under her breath, completely amazed at the power she would soon devour.
The others stood by to watch, but soon, their surprise was obstructed by Jineul jumping forth with her great axe.
Baekhyun jumped backwards, Bacon still within his arms. The dragon no longer tried to flee.
“Baekhyun, transform the dragon now!” Heejin called out.
The goblin stared in panic, looking at Bacon with a heavy heart. Could he do it? He had never succeeded. Was he even qualified? He wasn’t Yeonji.
“Hoya needs our help!” Heejin shouted, watching Jihye keeping up with Hoya’s increasing power.
Realization hit him. Worrying would not help the situation, instead delaying succes. So what if he might fail? At least he tried. Perhaps he would succeed. It was worth a shot.
“Okay, let’s go, Bacon!” Baekhyun shouted with new determination, releasing the dragon from his arm. Bacon flew in front of him, staring at him with anticipating eyes. He was ready. They both were. The battle had to end now.
“Bacon, afximeni!”
Everyone stood by, gasping in amazement, feeling their jaw drop as they stared at the tiny white dragon. But… nothing happened.

“I said the spell right, didn’t I?” Baekhyun wondered out loud, the courage disappearing. But no, he couldn’t give up now. They had come too far to return to starting point. They had a chance of winning.
“Afximeni!
They watched the dragon flap its tiny wings. Nothing happened.
“Darn it! Why won’t it work?” Baekhyun yelled, slamming his fist against the air. But he quickly retracted his arm when the blades of Jineul’s axe aimed for him.
“Give it up, already. It’s never gonna work,” she said, grinning at them. She picked up her axe again, boldly charging towards Baekhyun who served as the biggest pest now.
Before the axe hit him, R.O.P. and Daeyang
