The others never replied, too stunned to form a reply. Some darted their eyes to Jangmun, as if awaiting a silent explanation on his part. But for now, they had to keep Namjoon’s suspicions low.
Namjoon’s eyes moved to Jihye’s body on the floor. The werewolf had lost its warmth, a certain paleness washing over her entire skin. There was no wound or scars, but a messy plate of food accompanied her on the floor. He could only come up with one solution. Poison.
“What are you doing here?” Baekhyun asked, quickly taking a defensive stance in front of Yeonji and Bacon.
Hoya rose from his seat, the fury burning when he sighted Namjoon. It was the murderer of his best friend and beloved wife. He was so close to avenging their death. The wrath in him got interrupted when he felt a hand grabbing his wrist. It was Yeonji, slightly shaking her head to tell him to stay put.
The desire grew, but he did his best to suppress it. He stole a glance from Jangmun, seeing an internal conflict battling on his face. What was the wendigo thinking? Was he backing out on the plan? Hoya would willingly comply to a physical fight instead of opting for those red pills.
“Well, considering only the six of us are left—” Namjoon’s eyes went to Jihye once again. “Pardon me, I mean five of us—I thought it would be better to end this sooner than later so we can get out of here.”
Namjoon didn’t give a warning when he suddenly disappeared. No, not disappear, but he moved so fast no eye could follow his motion. In the blink of an eye, he was in front of Hoya.
“It was truly a pleasure to know you,” Namjoon whispered. Everything about his tone was as friendly as he had shown himself as since the very beginning, but the devilish grin on his face proved otherwise. He was a demon in disguise, and that sinister expression was a glimpse of hell’s inhabitant.
Hoya never saw Namjoon’s punch coming, proving his excellent speed in terms of movement. It jabbed him by his cheeks, blowing the remaining human into an impressive distance. But Namjoon specifically aimed for Hoya’s body to be crushed against a nearby tree trunk. The loud thud and bone crushing sound extended the creepy grin on his lips.
Next was Baekhyun, who was very nimble for a goblin, indeed. His speed matched up to Namjoon, and he too disappeared from sight. But he wasn’t up against an ordinary wendigo after all. Namjoon stayed still, taking in the silence of the surrounding, searching for the direction with most noise.
Left.
He stretched his arms to the left, blocking Baekhyun’s surprise attack. The goblin’s gigantic hammer made of barinium did manage to ring him up a little and Namjoon found his feet staggering back. He his lips and smirked at the goblin. How interesting.
In the midst of their battle, Yeonji had quickly gone over to Hoya to help him up. Though he wasn’t bleeding, the hit was severe enough to prevent the human from straightening his back. She had just placed his arm over his shoulder for support when an unexpected presence appeared.
“You succeeded,” Jangmun spoke shortly, motioning his head to Jihye’s dead body.
Yeonji narrowed her eyes. “Tell us why we shouldn’t kill you and Namjoon right here, right now,” she threatened. She knew they weren’t physically strong enough against the wendigo, but a small part of her secretly wanted to believe in the wendigo’s word. Despite her hatred towards their kind, she knew she logically needed his help.
“Use your hypnosis on me,” Jangmun spoke. “I know you don’t trust me, so I allow you to take my freedom. Make me protect all of you when you are under the effect of the pill.”
Something in Yeonji’s stomach began to stir, not expecting the wendigo to come up with such a solution. It was what Baekhyun had suggested, and she wondered whether Jangmun could read minds.
It was risky. Namjoon would kill him if he found out. Jangmun could also pretend to be under her influence. She had never tried her power on Jangmun before, not knowing whether it would work like it did to Yibyul, or be deflected by a force of dark magic.
“It’s worth a shot,” Hoya's voice interrupted her thought. He turned to her, wincing in pain, but lifting the corner of his lips into somewhat of a heroic grin. “I trust him.”
Yeonji frowned. She had to decide in the spur moment of seco
