Ephemeral Crown

Namjoon sat on the golden throne. His fingers lightly pressed against the handles, tracing nonsense symbols on them. The room was similar to the hell hole earlier. Everything was coated with raging firestorms, and a heated glow casted over everything in sight.
“King Wendigo,” Jihye called, entering the main chamber of royalty. The cloaked men in black allowed her entrance, stepping aside to make way for her to see the king. She bowed before his throne and relaid her findings. “No one in the castle has sighted them. Should I go and find them?”
“No,” Namjoon replied with a kind smile. His fingers continued circling around the handle. One would mistake his immense concentration as an important task. Then he stopped, looking up to meet the werewolf’s golden eyes.
“They will come to me.”
The creases sunk on Jihye’s forehead. “But—”
Namjoon held a finger up to stop her from protesting. “They are a bunch of people who value justice and morality above anything else. They can’t stand being apart from me for too long.”
Jihye trailed off the rest of her sentence into a sigh, exhaling deeply in disagreement. She had learned that following Namjoon came with the virtue of patience and silence.
“Besides, we have someone they want,” Namjoon spoke, glancing to his side.
The late king R.O.P. was on the floor, stripped off his clothes, clothed in only his undergarments. Both his hands were latched in a metal chain, and a heap of cloth was placed in his mouth to shut him up. He was treated as a prisoner—the king’s special prisoner who got front a row seat to witness chaos first hand. Daeyang would’ve received the same treatment, but he had disappeared somewhere along the way.
Namjoon elicited a dark grin on his lips. “And they have someone I want.”
Jihye raised her eyebrow, not knowing who he was referring to. Why did he only need one person to join his side instead of reeling all three of them? Did someone possess any special power she wasn’t aware of?
In the midst of her thoughts, a sudden explosion caused the entire castle walls to collapse. Smoke coated the room following the loud noise.
Many guards were deeply wounded from the explosion, some even losing their lives. Others drew their swords in anticipation only to be greeted by an unexpected twist. The enemies weren’t the rebels from the battle, but rather, their own comrade.
Namjoon did not seem all too surprised, unable to suppress his amazement. Through The Eye, he could spot the bunch of rebels running through the castle. There was an addition of four other elves, including the missing elven leader, two players whom he thought was dead, and the high priestess who was tricked by J-Lite to poison the others.
The next observation piqued his interest the most. Chiyeon was holding her silver flute against her lips, blowing a soothing melody as she stayed close to Yeonji. The female goblin was courageously walking to the guards, commanding them to attack Namjoon and his army. She was brainwashing them to take her side. Such a true talent. He didn’t know she bore that much power. Thanks to Chiyeon’s magic, her hypnosis bore more impact. On their own they may be ordinary, but together they became extraordinary.
“Remarkable. Chiyeon and Hoseok are alive,” he muttered, twirling his lips in genuine amazement. The more audience was present to his new royal status, the merrier.
Jihye looked at him, feeling her limbs loosening like a woolen thread trying to stay upright. The sight of Hoseok and Chiyeon constricted her heart with a sense of fear and panic. Myungsoo’s friends, would they have accepted her for what she had become? Then again, she had undergone this transformation for Myungsoo’s sake. For people who were like her and Myungsoo.
The king slowly raised from his seat, staring at the blown up entrance. A great yelling that could destroy another set of wall with high frequency appeared. He pursed his lips a little, expecting the rebels to appear anytime.
They did.
“Attack!” Hoya was at the frontline, commanding their new army to attack the palace. He was holding his long sword in front of him, not hesitating to slash it through whoever came his way. The others behind him did the same.
“As you wish,” Jihye said, a determined flicker through her eyes. She charged along the guards, attacking others. Due to their similar uniform, it was quite difficult to differentiate an ally from a brainwashed enemy. So instead, she set her eyes towards the rebels she could easily distinguish. Chiyeon and Yeonji were still brainwashing whoever came their way, and on first instinct, she wanted to go there. But a voice in the back of her mind reminded her to be careful—she was an easy target to the hypnosis.
Jihye grunted under her breath, looking for ways to attack them. A random guard ran up to her, holding a long spear aimed to her. Jihye evaded the attack with ease, jumping and somersaulting through the air. Her feet elegantly landed on the spear, and as the guard looked on in confusion, her foot kicked him on the chin, sending him flying backwards. Jihye grabbed the spear in time, and began stepping back to create a momentum. She then aimed for Chiyeon and Yeonji, taking a full swing at them.
The spear headed to the right direction, curving a little to penetrate through both girls at the same time. But at the last second, Hoseok appeared, catching the spear in his arm with perfect precision and accuracy. He snapped the spear in half against his knees and threw it to the floor. His deathly gaze was fixed on Jihye, knowing who the culprit was. He zig zagged his way towards her for a direct confrontation.
Now that Jihye was occupied and all the guards were distracted, it was time to carry out the second part of the plan.
“We’ll try to get to king R.O.P. as you fight Namjoon,” Heejin said on behalf of herself and Daeyang.
“We don’t fight Namjoon, we intend on killing him,” Baekhyun corrected her words. Confidence was b in his voice, because whatever plan Yeonji came up with, he was sure it would succeed.
“Let’s go,” Hoya nudged Yeonji by the shoulder. He led the way, clearing up the path towards Namjoon as Yeonji followed from behind. If this was going to work, they would be able to get rid of Namjoon.
More guards were killed. It almost became too easy for Hoya who killed hundreds of enemies on the battlefield for a living. From the corner of his eyes, he saw a look of dilemma on Yeonji’s face. Perhaps she was having second thoughts, but he knew she would endure.
Their target had calmly taken a seat on his throne. With his legs folded and his head tilted against his head, Namjoon stared at them with eyes of amusement.
“I’ve been waiting for this moment,” he said in a singsong voice, getting up on his feet. He had returned to his human form, but that toxic yellow glow color remained in his eyes, like a snake.
Yeonji cued Hoya to take a distance from her, and she was now the sole person before King Wendigo’s throne. She held in her silence when Namjoon towered over her short stature, standing at a small distance away from her. He pinched his long fingers against her chin, forcing her face to tilt towards him.
“I believe you have an interesting offer for me,” he said, whispering so quietly and softly one might thought he was seducing her.
“You asked me to join you,” Yeonji began. Her hand pulled at Namjoon’s, forcing him to slowly release her chin. She never flinched from him and grinned an imitation of the wendigo’s sinister smirk. “What are my benefits for doing so?”
“Ah, you have been considering,” Namjoon whispered in delight, keeping his voice low and ually seductive at their close distance. “You have to understand, Yeonji, that if you join me, I would make you my queen. Once you’re my queen, you and I will become one.”
It was the same offer he had made Aeri, according to the stories, and Yeonji only had a hunch what it could possibly lead to. Becoming one meant that he’ll have her killed.
“How do y
