No one knew what to say. They held their breath to heighten the deafening silence. Everyone’s eyes focused on Namjoon’s dead body.
“That’s it?” Hoseok was the first to break the silence. He released the tension he had been holding and turned to the others. “We won. We really won.”
Namjoon was a mighty being who had proven his skills from time to time again. They had troubles accepting the reality, because it felt too good to be true.
“Was that really the end?” Chiyeon questioned him unsurely. Something about the situation felt uncanny. She couldn’t fathom why his death turned out to be so… easy. Considering Namjoon’s deadly nature, his death was a little anti climatic.
Daeyang had retrieved R.O.P. at that time, supporting him by the shoulders to join the rest. The former king snatched a random guard’s black cloak to cover his exposed skin.
“I would like to thank you for protecting Ephemerus. This kingdom is forever indebted to you,” R.O.P. spoke, naturally assuming the position as a leader. “As a reward for your sacrifice, we shall—”
His speech stopped midway when a loud cackling interrupted. Their heads simultaneously looked up, following the direction of the disturbing sound. How could they have forgotten about her?
Lee Jihye.
“I am surprised you think so lowly of me. Surely I would possess more endurance than that.”
They were dumbfounded. A chill rang down their spines. It was Jihye who spoke and moved , but her cheerful voice had twisted into something demonic. Her choice of words reminded them of Namjoon.
“He’s not dead,” Chiyeon spoke, gripping Hoseok’s arm tighter and took shield behind him. She whispered endless “I told you”s under her breath as they all regrouped at the center.
“Surprised to see me in my new form?” Jihye asked in her eerie voice, lower than her usual cheerful pitch. It was bound to bring nightmares to whoever listened.
“What happened? I thought he died,” Hoseok asked, feeling Chiyeon and Hoya both pressing against him as they tightened their circle.
“It’s another dark power at work. It is rarely practiced, but some wielders are able to switch their soul from body to body. They would obtain their original abilities, and the one from the body they have overtaken,” Heejin explained to them.
“Excellent. It seems you posses quite a bit of knowledge about this subject,” Jihye spoke, completely impressed. They had realized by now that Namjoon had taken control over the werewolf’s body. How strong he had become was a question they dared not find out.
Jihye turned her head towards Baekhyun, slightly tilting it sideways. “My deep condolences about your girlfriend. She died to stop me from getting her power, but it was all in vain,” she said mockingly, smiling with twisted kindness.
Baekhyun clenched his hands into a fist, digging his own nails into his skin out of anger. How he longed to repeat a head smashing action once more. But it was still Jihye’s body. Hurting Namjoon meant hurting Jihye as well.
The one getting aggravated instead was Bacon. The dragon forced its way to get to Jihye, but Baekhyun quickly caught him and held him in his grip. The dragon began biting Baekhyun’s hand, partially shifting the blame of Yeonji’s death to him.
“Now, I am certain you are eager to find out how I’m planning to kill you all,” Jihye spoke deliriously, closing her eyes, and almost waltzing in ecstasy at the thought alone.
“Nah, not really,” Hoseok spoke out loud.
“That’s the spirit! You shall be my first victim,” Jihye said, smiling sweetly at him. The curve of her lips extended, and her eyes glowed bright yellow like a snake. “I’ll show you my power.”
Jihye stretched her fingers, stiffening them as she held it out in front of her. She let out a deafening battle cry, screaming to the point her vocal chords could snap. Her eyes widened in a disastrous way, like it could pop out any moment. Her hair was carried by the excessive energy she was exerting.
The building began quivering again. The floor below them was shaking, and the ruptured walls came down completely. Debris fell from the ceiling upon their head. Cracks appeared on the floor. The broken tiles fell sideways, and solid ground raised from the center of it. The soil extended as high as their head, and as the sand and dust fell off, the shape of a person began to take shape.
They were greeted by four participants who were previously killed during the battle. Their skin looked dustier and resembled the dirty marble of a sculpture. It was a paler color than a living person’s. Their pupil missed an iris along with its rich detail, leaving a black circle of nothingness.
“I am sure you remember them? Jineul, Sungjong, Nari,” Jihye began.
“Are you summoning couples? Where is Jongdae?” Hoseok asked, expecting a fourth creature to rise up from the ground.
“I can’t revive him considering Jihye had blown his entire body into pieces. Quite a spectacular show with the bomb, isn’t it?” Jihye spoke. Of course, Namjoon had been the mastermind all along while Jihye acted as his pawn.
“Instead, let me introduce you to the fourth person.” Jihye mimicked her earlier movements, spreading her fingers so wide apart like they were going against anatomy, cramping backwards. Another face was sculpted from soil, taking on the appearance of a human female.
Hoya stared in disbelief, a part of his anger falling. He was letting his defenses down, and both Hoseok and Baekhyun who were on his sides felt the release of his hold.
“Biah,” he mouthed under his breath, unable to stop himself when he walked over to her. He pushed away anyone who tried to stop him, extending a hand out to reach up to her.
“I thought you might want to see your wife again. You are very welcome,” Jihye spoke, looking at the other players with a motherly smile. “They died too early in the game. Thought I’d give them another chance.”
“So what are they? Zombies?” Baekhyun asked, carefully watching Hoya who grabbed unto Biah’s wrist.
“Perhaps, you could assume so, yes” Jihye said, giggling to herself. “The living dead are here to kill you.”
“Kill us?” Hoya blinked his eyes. Within that split second, he felt a quick woosh in front of his face, watching as a single hair strand fell before his eyes. He shifted his focus to Biah, watching the knife in her hand. No, it wasn’t an ordinary knife. He had seen the move before. Biah’s hand had transformed into a knife, bearing the same color as the rest of her pale skin.
She smiled sweetly at him. “Ho oppa, I missed you,” she said. Her affections came in the form of another murderous attempt to cut through his throat.
“It can talk!” Hoseok spoke.
“And it seems it can fight as well,” Chiyeon added.
They couldn’t observe for too long, because
