Chapter 2
Strings of Fate
Mr. Yung lectured for a while before passing out a worksheet and letting the students work on it in groups. Usually Jimin would work with Taehyung and some of the other students that Taehyung was friends with. But today he decided to invite the new student to join them. He turned around in his seat and smiled at the black haired male.
“Hi, I’m Jimin, do you want to work with me and Taehyung?” Jimin asked the male sitting behind him. Jungkook looked at Jimin with a blank face before nodding slowly and somewhat stiffly.
“Ok, let’s move our desks together then.” Jimin said as Taehyung pushed his desk over to them and introduced himself to Jungkook. The three of them worked on the assignment diligently and were able to finish it relatively quickly. From that small interaction Jimin had learned that Jungkook wasn’t much of a talker and only spoke when spoken to. Another thing Jimin learned was that Jungkook was smart, really smart.
“So Jungkook-ah how old are you?” Taehyung asked deciding to make small talk since they had already turned in their assignment and had nothing better to do.
“Just turned fifteen,” Jungkook replied.
“Fifteen? Oh, then you’re younger than us?” Taehyung exclaimed surprised.
“How old are you?” Jungkook asked seemingly unsurprised that they weren’t the same age.
“We’re sixteen, but we’re about to turn seventeen,” Jimin answered.
“How is it you’re in your sophomore year already?” Taehyung asked curiously.
“I skipped a few grades,” Jungkook answered.
“Wow! Well I guess that’s to be expected since you’re so smart.” Taehyung said praising the younger and Jimin nodded in agreement. Honestly the black haired male reminded him of Namjoon in that sense. Namjoon hadn’t skipped any grades but was the smartest person Jimin knew in their school. Namjoon was in his junior year but was taking second year college courses rather than high school classes. Jimin was still unsure how that was even possible but apparently it was. Namjoon was also special in another way, there were green strings attached to his brain.
Jimin had never met the other people on the ends of those strings and still hadn’t figured out what the green string represented. He had only seen the green strings on two other people. One being his father’s boss at work and the other being his mother’s sister who he’d see every Christmas when the whole family would gather together. Even though Jimin had yet to figure out what the green strings were for he figured it had to deal with intelligence in some way since it was connected to the forehead.
“I’m not that smart. I just study a lot.” Jungkook said disagreeing with Taehyung.
“It doesn’t matter how you became smart, the fact is you’re smart.” Taehyung said dismissing Jungkook’s statement with a small flick of his wrist. “So Jungkookie, can I call you that? I give all my friends nicknames, and I think Jungkookie is a cute nickname, so you’re just going to have to accept it. And even if you can’t now that’s ok, cause Suga hyung was like that too, he hated me calling him Suga, but he’s so sweet like sugar despite his tough exterior. And so I kept calling him Suga and now he accepts it cause everyone in our friend group started calling him Suga too. Honestly
