Anniversary

Life in the Jung-Min House

Yoongi awoke in the middle of the night to find that Ivy wasn't in bed. Over Jungkook's head he caught site of the alarm clock's blazingly bright screen. 3:28 a.m. Where in the world could she have gone? Ivy never woke up for anything in the middle of the night, so what was she doing? Yoongi slowly drew his arm from around Winter, worried to awaken the boy who had crawled into their bed not two hours earlier because of a nightmare. Yoongi couldn't help but smile at him, as fiercely independent as he was he was still just a kid and it was so endearing. Grabbing his cell phone and using it as a flashlight, Yoongi made his way out of his bedroom in search of his wife.

Ivy had been known to have panic attacks or night terrors every now and then so he was worried. He had come across her once in the very beginning of their marriage crouched under the stairs clutching her hair and trying to keep herself quiet. It had scared him, almost worse than the time that Taehyung had appendicitis. Yoongi had spent hours simply holding her as she cried and tried to calm herself down, all while apologizing to him. She was always so worried about everyone else in the family that she never let anyone take care of her, even though that's all Yoongi had ever wanted to do.

Yoongi searched all the normal places he'd find her, the space under the stairs, the large closet in the living room, all the bathrooms, and even Jungkook's room, she was nowhere to be found. Yoongi slowly closed the door to Jungkook's room with a large sigh, leaning his head against the wood, silently berating himself for not being able to find her. The silence was broken though by a sound in his studio, the studio was soundproofed so the sound was muffled but still audible in the stillness of the night. Yoongi's brow knit together and he walked towards the studio to figure out what it was.

When he finally reached the door he noticed the light on inside which was odd, even when he was working in there he never really used the overhead light, it was too bright. Yoongi pushed the door open a little more from where it stood slightly ajar. He almost rushed in ready to scold Ivy for having scared him so bad when he noticed how she was hunched over. He'd seen her sob and cry and be a blubbering mess but this was completely different than anything he'd ever seen. She didn't seem so much sad as she seemed frustrated. Yoongi stepped back to lean against the wall to listen to her, he soothed the feeling of guilt in his chest by telling himself he was only making sure that she was okay.

“Dammit Ivy. You can do this! You've played this a million times! There's not even anyone watching so what's your problem!” Ivy was stage whispering to herself, which wasn't anything new for him to hear but the way she was berating herself was. He sighed silently, wishing he could make her stop talking to herself like that.

While Yoongi had been lost in his thoughts Ivy had moved to sit up bringing a tall instrument to rest against her thighs before connecting it to a strap she was sitting on and bringing what looked like a goose neck piece of metal towards her face. With a moment of thought, Yoongi recognized the instrument as a bassoon, Ivy had told him that she played it when they first started dating. He had always begged her to play for him but she always had a reason not to.

“I don't have a reed. What would I even play? I haven't played for a while, it'd sound bad. I'm not a professional, you really don't want to hear it,” Those had been a few of her reasons. Yoongi had always suspected that there was some other reason why she wouldn't but he could never seem to figure it out.

Yoongi was startled out of his thoughts when he heard a deep, mellow sound from the instrument his wife was playing. She played though a slow and deliberate piece that was absolutely beautiful to him. Why had she ever said she wasn't any good? It was beautiful and so well done that it almost brought tears to his eyes, almost. He'd never admit to the tear that had escaped as he smiled at his wife's swaying form. This was the most beautiful moment in life, he realized. Even if she never knew it this was the moment that she was the most stunning to him.

As the piece ended and she began to stand to pack away the instrument, Yoongi backed away from the door and made his way, quickly, back to the room. He got back into bed curling up around Winter and closing his eyes quickly when he heard the doorknob jiggling. He opened his eyes sleepily when he felt the bed shift.

“Jagi? Where were you?” Yoongi said stifling a yawn while reaching out to grab her hand between the two sleeping nuisances, a.k.a their sons.

“I couldn't sleep so I was just reading a bit,” Yoongi grinned at her not-quite-a-lie and gently squeezed her hand.

“Okay, I was worried,” Ivy grinned gently over at him and nuzzled a bit more into the pillows and Jungkook.

I love you, Yoongi,” Yoongi smiled a crooked smile and closed his eyes.

I love you, Ivy,” With that the two fell asleep with their sons clinging to them.

The next day had proven to be very hectic. Ivy had to stay at the school later than usual to help one of her students who was having trouble with the material she had presented that day in class, Yoongi was working with one of the more unbearable trainees at his company, and all the kids had to go to all of their respective practices. Ivy pulled out her phone on her way out of the school to see that she had two missed calls from Jungkook, two texts from Jimin and Taehyung, a voice note from Mariska and Winter, and an apology text from Yoongi saying he was having to stay longer at the company. She smiled a bit before calling Jungkook back.

“Eomma! Are you on your way home yet?” Jungkook's excited tone elicited a wider smile from Ivy.

“Ne, Baby Bunny. Waeyo?” Ivy didn't miss the giggle that Jungkook tried to hide.

“I was just wondering. We're all hungry.”

“Mama! Hurry up we're starving!” Came Winter's voice in the background.

“Yeah Eomma! Do you not love us anymore?” Jimin's voice yelled.

“Arrasseo. I'll be home soon,” Ivy said laughing a bit at the antics of her children.

“Ara Eomma. See you soon,” Jungkook said before the line went dead. Ivy shook her head and got into her car, quickly starting the engine and heading home.

When Ivy entered the house she was surprised by how dark and quiet it was. Normally the kids had every light on and were playing video games in the living room, though tonight it was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. Ivy quickly took off her shoes and hung her jacket on the rack before walking a bit further into the house and dropping off her bag and keys.

“Kids! I'm home! What do you want for dinner?” Ivy called out as she began to head to the kitchen. When there was no response though she began to worry. She quickly checked the living room, library, and office before calling out again. “Kids? Where are you all?”

Ivy turned the corner and caught sight of a dim light coming from the dining room. She entered looking into all the corners like she was clearing the room, thinking they were playing a trick on her.

“Alright guys, this isn't funny anymore. You're the ones who were complaining about being hungry. If you don't come out I'm going to eat all by myself,” Ivy's jaw dropped though when she looked to the middle of the dining room to see a beautiful set up. Candles, flowers and food all set up meticulously on the table in the center of the room.

“Why don't you just eat with me then?” Ivy jumped a bit as she felt Yoongi wrap his arms around her waist and resting his chin on her shoulder. Ivy turned to face her husband in complete shock.

“I thought you were working late?” Ivy questioned reaching up to place her hand on his cheek as if checking to make sure he was real.

“On our anniversary? Do you really think I'm that heartless?” Ivy couldn't help but giggle at the mock hurt on his face. He was too precious.

“Ani, I just know that work is important to you,” Ivy smiled gently at him and he returned it.

“Nothing is as important to me as you and the kids are,” Yoongi brought his forehead to rest on hers, closing his eyes.

“Speaking of, where are the kids?” Ivy said closing her eyes and wrapping her arms around his neck.

“I think Namjoon said something about taking them to the movies and then having a sleep over with the Uncles,” Yoongi chuckled a bit and pulled Ivy a bit closer. He leaned in and brushed his lips softly against hers. After all these years there was still a spark that sent chills down his spine, he loved it. When he pulled back Ivy turned to look at the room.

“So tell me, Genius Suga, what do you have planned for us tonight?” Ivy shivered a bit when he pulled her back against his chest and whispered in her ear.

“You'll find out about that a bit later,” He placed a soft kiss to her ear and released her. “For now let's eat.”

Yoongi was even more of a gentleman than usual, pulling out her chair, placing her plate in front of her, even placing her napkin in her lap, though he gently squeezed her thigh when he was done. Ivy had rolled her eyes a bit at his antics, even if they were working, Yoongi was not sly. Never had been and never would be. They ate a delicious dinner with all of Ivy's favorites and a rich dessert. Ivy couldn't help but notice that Yoongi had to have put a lot of thought into this and felt a bit bad that she hadn't done something equally as impressive for him. At the end of the dinner, Yoongi took her hand and led her into the living room that had the center cleared.

“Hang on just a second okay?” Yoongi gave her a quick peck on the lips before heading over to the large stereo system that was in the corner. He pressed some buttons and fiddled around a bit before music began to spout from the speakers. Yoongi headed back over to Ivy and held out his hand which she gladly took. He led her to the center of the room and began to dance with her.

It was a simple dance, mainly just swaying in a circle while they looked into each others eyes. Ivy began to realize that she hadn't heard this song before. It was a mix of modern music with an orchestral aspect, a violin to be specific. It was beautiful though and it was making her tear up. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dzbf6wFXyLk this is the song)

“What's this song?” Ivy asked blinking a bit rapidly to keep tears from falling.

“It's yours,” Yoongi said pulling his hand from her waist up to catch a stray tear that had leaked out.

“Jinja?” Ivy couldn't stop the tears as Yoongi nodded. The song was so beautiful and emotional. She had never felt something move her heart quite this much. She dropped her head, trying to hide her tears but Yoongi wasn't having it. He lifted her face and looked into her eyes.

“Do you like your present?” Ivy nodded, not trusting her voice. “I'm glad.”

Yoongi kissed her then, it was a passionate and long kiss. If there was anything Ivy couldn't feel about his love in the song she could feel it in this kiss. Every word they'd ever left unsaid, every loving look, every smile they had shared over the years, it was all in this kiss. They really did love each other.

When they broke the kiss the song had ended and Ivy tugged on Yoongi's arm, leading him upstairs. Yoongi almost made a joke about her wanting to rush things but kept quiet when they passed their bedroom door. They ended up in front of Yoongi's studio and he stared at his wife, a bit puzzled.

“Uh... Give me a minute okay? I have to get something ready...” Yoongi nodded and stuffed his hands in his pockets when Ivy went into the studio. He wondered what she could possibly be doing but before he could call out to her the door swung open and he saw that she had her bassoon on the stand next to a chair and a music stand in front of it.

“Can I come in now?” Yoongi asked with a slight smirk on his face. Ivy's eyes shifted all over the hall but never landed on his.

“There are conditions,” Ivy said flatly.

“And those conditions are?” Yoongi said leaning in towards her face trying to get her to look at him.

“One, you can't say anything while I'm playing. Two, you can't treat me like one of your trainees, meaning no criticism. Trust me I'll know if I . Three, you can't judge the instrument if I play it badly. It really is beautiful but it might not be when I play it,” Ivy said still avoiding his eye.

“I'm sure you'll-”

“Promise me Yoongi,” Ivy said sternly finally meeting his eyes.

“Okay. I promise,” Yoongi could see how serious she was and didn't want to risk the one time he could finally hear her play. She moved away from the door and he came in and sat on the chair she had set up for him. She went and sat down and set up her bassoon, pulling the music stand up so that he couldn't see her face. She took a few deep breaths and soon sound flooded the studio.

Yoongi's jaw dropped when he recognized the song. It was his. It was So Far Away. When had she gotten the score? When had she even had the chance to transpose it for bassoon? She was always so busy, how did she find the time for this? It was minimal, she hadn't bothered to have a backtrack playing but it was the most beautiful thing Yoongi had ever heard. He couldn't believe she had done this for him. When she was done she set her bassoon on the stand and pushed the music stand down so he could finally see her face.

“Was it really so bad that you're crying?” Ivy said reaching up to scratch the back of her neck. Yoongi couldn't even stop himself from standing and pulling her into a tight embrace. He kissed her again still trying to form the right words for what he wanted to tell her. When he finally found them he pulled back and looked into her eyes.

“I've never heard anything so beautiful in my life. Komawo, jinja komawo,” Ivy smiled and leaned up to press her lips to his in a soft peck. “Can we move this to the bedroom now?”

Ivy giggled a bit and nodded. It was the best anniversary they had celebrated yet.

A couple days later, Ivy was in the kitchen cooking dinner with the kids running around. Everything was just as hectic as usual and Yoongi had just walked in the door. He made his way to the kitchen, carefully dodging Taehyung and Winter who were running around playing some sort of make believe game, stepping over Jimin who was sprawled across the floor doing homework, and directly in between Mariska and Jungkook who were having their normal fight for attention, though Jungkook was only fighting for Ivy's. When Yoongi finally made it into the 'safe-zone' that was the kitchen, he wrapped his arms around Ivy's waist and gave her a peck on the cheek.

“Were the kids terrors today?” Yoongi asked. He felt bad having been called into the office on a Sunday leaving Ivy to deal with the kids by herself.

“Ani. I mainly stayed in the kitchen, though Tae got a little ballsy and tried to enter my domain. Other than that they were pretty average,” Ivy turned and gave Yoongi a quick peck on the lips. “How was the office?”

“You know the usual. Trainees trying to find some edge to debut, and some idiot trying to get me to do a collab with them,” Yoongi said leaning on the opposite counter from Ivy.

“Hobi's still hasn't convinced you to work with him yet?” Ivy smirked and Yoongi smiled.

“Oh he has, I'm just torturing him now. I'll tell him on Friday that I'll do it. Oh, I got something for you though,” Ivy turned to face him with her eyebrows knit together.

“What could you possibly have gotten me now?” Ivy said as she put the lid on the pot in front of her and turned to cross her arms at him.

“This,” Yoongi pulled out a few music sheets from his bag and handed them to her. She looked them over for a second before looking back up at him. “It's the song I wrote you for our anniversary. I added in a bassoon to duet with the violin. I thought you might like to have it to play.”

Ivy jumped into his arms wrapping her legs around his waist. Yoongi caught her and stumbled a bit into the counter trying to regain his balance but he couldn't help the smile that crossed his face.

These were the moments he lived for. Everything was right in the Jung-Min house.
