Frenemies

“What do you think they’re doing today?“

Juna was so drawn into the image of Hana getting changed, that she could barely concentrate on what the model was asking her. But who could ever hold it against the female when every human being would watch that angel walking around in her undies in awe. Victoria Secret Angels really were one of a kind. Yet, Hana wasn’t the only one who constantly made Juna drool as if she was some leaking water tap. Sunhee’s habit of walking around the mansion not wearing a bra wasn’t driving only Jimin or Jungkook crazy, the whole room brightened when Sunhee entered it. Juna was thinking about dubbing the contestant ‚Sunny‘ instead of calling her her real name. And of course re-naming Bachelors’ Paradise to Juna’s Paradise.

“Hello? Earth to Juna?“, Hana directed her words at Juna who finally listened to her.

“U-Uh, what?“, she asked and got up from her lying position on the bed. She had watched Hana while halfway hanging out of her bed, her colorful dyed hair touching the ground as she was grinning like an idiot.

“What do you think they’re doing today?“, Hana repeated her question, getting into one of her dresses to the disappointment of Juna.

“I don’t know. Fun in the sand sounded cool, though. Doesn’t mean we can’t have fun today as well, right?“, Juna asked and got up. “So… anything you want to do today?“, she asked, bit her lower lip and started twirling one of her pinkish hair strands around her fingers.

Hana looked a little confused of how Juna had changed the topic but she soon thought about her question and then shrugged. “Wanna check out who of the bachelors is around in the mansion today? I mean, your favorite bachelor’s not around but that doesn’t mean that you can’t talk to others, hm? I’d like to see if… someone’s around.“ The model grinned and urged Juna to finally get out of her bed, the later suddenly being a lot less motivated to leave the room.

When they finally arrived downstairs and the only male human being that was around was Inguk who was busy talking to Jiho and Yumi in the kitchen, Hana stopped before they even entered the room.

“Wait!“, she forced Juna to come to a halt. “I have an idea!“ Okay… that sounded… interesting? “Let’s go swimming!“

Juna’s eyes lit up immediately. Swimming. Bikinis. Water. Oh yeah. And it didn’t even bother her that the only reason Hana was suggesting taking over the pool was Inguk who was in the kitchen and who would 100% see the two girls outside in the water.
 

For a fact Yeonhee sometimes felt more than out of place in the mansion. So far she figured that a lot of the girls were very upbeat, very bright, very child-like. And so were some of the bachelors. To her it looked a lot like the guys were looking for bright personalities, that kind that is easy to get along with. So to Yeonhee it felt as if she was wasting her time. It was just a matter of time until the guys would send her home. So she thought at least. It made her miss her working place.

With a sigh she was browsing the mansion. It was already late in the night and most of the day time staffs  already went back home while only the night shift staffs were around, staying in the kitchen while sipping coffee and discussing about some things that happened during the day. Not that Yeonhee was eavesdropping. It just happened that she got to listen to some of their conversation.

“I’m glad I don’t have to do the daytime shifts… The girls can be a hand full…“, one of them said.

“You think the girls are a hand full? I had to film the bachelors once… I had super shoots but afterwards all of the scenes got edited out because Min Yoongi and Kim Namjoon told the editors they don’t want those scenes to be aired. Frustrating much!“

Yeonhee’s eyebrows raised a little. She had no idea of how the show was doing, nobody even got a glimpse at how the audience was feeling about either the contestants nor the bachelors. But it was interesting to hear that what was aired was the decision of the bachelors.

“Anyway - you know what I got to do during the day?“, another one sounded very, very excited. “I got to film that girl that is hanging around the pool the entire time! That was… nice.“

Okay, that was something Yeonhee didn’t want to listen more to. She quickly turned around and walked back to the direction of her room where Mihoon, Nara and Bunbun were sleeping. But as she had started suffering some very unpleasant insomnia, Yeonhee didn’t feel that fond of going back. Instead she decided to check out the balcony. Maybe watching the stars and getting some fresh air would brush away the clouds in her mind. And as fate had wanted it to be someone else had the idea of occupying the balcony at 3AM in the morning, too.

When Yeonhee sat down at one of the deckchairs and next to her in the dark someone was greeting her all of a sudden with an “Oh! Hey!“ she almost jumped off the stool.

“N-Namjoon?!“, she recognized the bachelor who was beaming at her in the moonlight.

“You can’t sleep either?“, he asked and Yeonhee nodded shortly, noticing that in the dark it was hard for Namjoon to see how she reacted.

“Yes… it’s just… so many thoughts and the new environment. We’ve been here for two weeks and I feel… I don’t know.“ Yeonhee fought the urge to sigh. She didn’t want to give Namjoon the impression that she didn’t want to be here. After all Yeonhee was trying to do kind of well at least in this. If not for herself then for her mother and family.

“You don’t feel at home?“, Namjoon asked and laughed. “I feel you. I haven’t been here for a while.To me it’s kinda new, too.“ Yeonhee’s eyebrows went up again when she heard Namjoon tell her about it. So this wasn’t his house? Or was this one of his many houses? She wanted to ask him about it but Namjoon was quicker in changing the topic. “Do you get along with the other girls?“

“I’m trying to get along with everyone as good as possible.“, she answered simply. There wasn’t a reason why she should tell him anything bad about the others. Although there were some girls that Yeonhee just simple couldn’t get along with.

“And you’re avoiding to tell me about girls that you don’t like that much.“ He pretty much hit bull’s eye. Whereas sounding amused, there was a hint of discontent in his voice. “Yeonhee… you intrigue me. I never know what you’re thinking. You’re… professional to the extent that I don’t know how to read you.“ Which indirectly was a request to her to be more open.

This time Yeonhee couldn’t suppress a sigh and so she was sitting next to Namjoon, thinking about what to tell him. “So you want me to open up more to you…?“

“I knew you’d understand me immediately.“ Namjoon sounded very content again. “Just let me know a little bit more about what you think. How you tick. I know it’s not that easy but when I reach out my hand to you, just take it.“ He moved on his deckchair, turning around to her. “For example… tell me why you’re still single. You’re smart and successful. Aren’t that features that should have you already off the market?“

His words made Yeonhee chuckle. “You’d be surprised how I manage to stay single. My mother says it’s because I’m married to my job and therefore I scare men away. She says I’m intimidating. If you ask my sisters it’s because I’m a lesbian who’s too scared to come out with it.“

The contestant started laughing with Namjoon joining her for a moment, before he turned all serious again. “Yeah… but that’s what others say. What do you say?“

“Me?“ Yeonhee was surprised of how Namjoon was still trying to hear about her opinion when others would usually always refer to what her family said about her. Namjoon was persistent. Wow.

“Yeah. What you say is what is important, not what others say. Because nobody but yourself can even know what the reason is.“

Yeonhee looked over to Namjoon, suddenly wishing that it wasn’t that dark so she could see his expression properly. “… I think it’s partly because of what my mother said. To me my job is simply more important than love. I would never prioritize a relationship over my career.“

Namjoon was quiet for a few minutes before he said something that Yeonhee kind of expected but she didn’t expect how his words managed to touch her. The sincerity in them was so strong that it left her speechless.

“I thought the same a few years ago. I thought that your career is the most important thing in your life. Because your career does somehow define who you are. To some it’s their dream after all. How much do you work for that dream? Or did you even give up on it? But then… at some point in life I thought about what happens when you fulfill that dream but then you’re left with nothing but a job. Love and working life are both important, that I can’t deny. Yet, if you find a person that is worth sacrificing your job or the possibility to come out big for… I don’t feel like doing it in that case is a bad thing. Humans are weak when it comes to finding love. Our biological code wants us to find someone to bond with after all. And even though some of us think that being successful is what’s important, nobody wants to be lonely. Therefore, if you find a person that you can see yourself living a happy life with, a person that you can appreciate no matter what and who feels the same about you… wouldn’t it be worse to loose that person instead of your job?“

The rush of endorphins lasted far longer than expected and so when the second date day started and Miso was down in the kitchen to get herself some breakfast, she still felt happy and inflamed by the little make-out session with Jimin the day before. Who could even judge her for it? Jimin was super hot, probably super successful and he was a great kisser, too. Not to mention how good he had looked in his wet tank top, his abs beautifully visible thanks to the super cold water.

Miso was happily humming, Mihoon, Johanna, Areum and Yumin all sitting at the table, already having lunch when Miso was up for her shameful breakfast.

“Did you really kiss Jimin?“, Yumin broke the silence and next to her, the eyes of the other contestants (except for Mihoon’s) were lying on her as if in shock that the young girl seriously asked Miso about it.

The YouTuber’s lips’ corners quirked up when she heard the question and nodded. “I did.“, she answered honestly and even a bit proud.

“So you’re set with Jimin? You fell for him?“, the young girl wanted to know further. Her naivety was cute, really. Miso couldn’t help but grin even wider.

“Who knows what’s going to happen.“, Miso answered and shrugged. “Maybe we’ll start dating. Maybe I’ll start dating someone else. After all we just kissed. And there are seven hot bachelors around.“

To her this seemed a legit explanation of how she was seeing the situation, some of the others couldn’t agree as much. Especially one couldn’t hold back any longer as Miso’s words must have somehow triggered her.

“In other words you take what you get?“ Mihoon’s words pretty much sounded like a direct attack. She didn’t raise her voice, nor did she change her intonation. It was just the content of what left that hit Miso like little needles. “If the situation allows it, you’re going to make out with all of them?“

The kitchen was all silent. Yumin, Areum and Johanna even stopped eating to watch what was going on between Miso and Mihoon. The air was so thick, it could have been sliced with a knife and none of the contestants around the two fighting girls dared to even get involved in this.

“Hey, everyone would take the opportunity and kiss one of the guys!“, the vlogger tried to defend herself.

“No. Not everyone.“

With that Mihoon definitely hit a sensitive spot as Miso immediately moved around the kitchen corner to face her directly. “Are you trying to shame me right now?!“

Mihoon unfazed looked up at her. “I’m not just trying.“

If there was something that Nara knew she was good at then it was reading people. And of course a lot of other things, but reading people was one of her biggest strengths, nevertheless. As a matchmaker it was her recipe to success. As a woman it was a good way to see who of the men she met were serious and who were not. Or who was matching with her and who was not. In fact Nara found this all fun and interesting. Analyzing all the bachelors and contestants, she felt as if she had agreed to a challenge in which she could win an enormous precious price at the very end if she managed to succeed in this. Especially after she figured that some of the bachelors were pretty intriguing.

Jimin, that little pool of STDs was one of them. He basically was screaming ‚Help me, I’m lost and I need to find the right one for me!‘. His whole playboy - shy cutesy acting was way too easy to see through, Nara knew that he was putting on a show and she also knew that he was just another boy who was looking for love. But unfortunately Nara wasn’t interested in types with STDs.

Jungkook was disguising himself as a nice, shy idol. Awkward around others? After she was talking to him alone during the first night, she knew that behind the mask he put on for the show there was a grown, mature man who was more than ready to be with someone like her. He knew what he wanted. And if possible Nara wanted to be one of those things.

Seokjin was way too precious for his own good. A nice, mature, down-to-earth and incredibly handsome fashion designer. He had so much great husband potential but he was holding back just as much that it frustrated Nara. Gay? Those rumors were nonsense. The way he looked at women, how he interacted with them. Yeah, he did understand them very well. But not because he was homoual. Nara already noticed how Seokjin was examining some of the females around. And so he did with her. He was a pretty hard nut to crack. Was he worth trying? Yeah. But only if someone else wasn’t giving in.

The one that fascinated Nara the most was Namjoon. Namjoon who was straight telling people his opinion. Intelligent, true to himself and with a wonderfully ominous sense of fashion… this male was just perfect. He had it all. He had everything that Nara wanted. But he wasn’t interested in her. Actually, it was super difficult to tell what his type was. If Namjoon would set step into Nara’s office he’d be the first she’d fail in finding a match for. When she thought he was into intellectual girls, he wasn’t interested in her. When she thought he wanted to be with someone more simple, he showed that he needed someone more intellectual and couldn’t really get with people like Juna. He was frustrating in so many terms that Nara couldn’t help but to go into raptures.

As so often these days Nara was thinking of why Namjoon was that hard to figure out when she bumped into Taehyung in the laundry room. She was on her way, ready to finally figure out how the washing machine worked when she found the bachelor, who besides Namjoon was causing her troubles figuring him out, already using the washing machine. Why he was so hard to read? Well… because of this:

“Hey sis, come here!“, Taehyung shouted with his deep voice loudly, gathering some of the clothes in front of him. For a moment Nara thought he was talking to her. “Why?“, he suddenly yelled again, this time in a high-pitched voice as if he was imitating a girl. “Just come here!“, he added, going back to male.

Nara was standing in the doorway, looking at him with raised eyebrows. 4D. Yeah. So much 4D. 4D people were…special. And even to her a mystery. Because they were unpredictable. Taehyung wasn’t even pretending to be one of those people. He was just entirely weird. Worth looking at, but not worth touching even once.

“Why are you doing this to me?!“, his girly attempt went on with the dual role playing. “Because I like you.“, he finished his monologue melodramatically and closed the door of the washing machine. Nara silently moved backwards to run from him. Nope. She didn’t want to talk to him. Nope, nope, nope.

On her way back to the room the voices of Mihoon and Bunbun were echoing through the hallway. Well… more likely Bunbun’s voice getting louder and louder while Mihoon was calmly talking to her. Calm didn’t always mean non-provoking, though. The reason why Nara was getting along with Mihoon so well was the way how Mihoon was dealing with situations and people.  The intimidating woman wasn’t tolerating any kind of bullting, hence the reason she clashed pretty often with some of the other contestants these days. Bunbun was Mihoon’s favorite target. Granted, the disliking was mutual. 

Bunbun was rushing out of the room when Nara arrived back, still her dirty laundry with her as the confrontation with Taehyung was nothing she had wanted to happen.

“You called Bunbun out for being… Bunbun?“, Nara asked, eyeing Mihoon who was lying on her bed, fully dressed in her skinny jeans and plaid shirt. For once she wasn’t hanging out at the pool. “Bunbun’s… a big talker.“

“Bunbun’s a big pain in the !“, Mihoon corrected Nara. Even though she was angry, her voice remained low. “I can’t believe Namjoon and Yoongi let her stay another week. At least Namjoon I expected to see through her. That girl lies whenever she opens !“

Nara shrugged. “Give him some time to figure it out by himself. As far as I can tell he didn’t see through her yet.“

But Namjoon wouldn’t need that much time to see what Nara and Mihoon were seeing once Bunbun was getting stuck in her own web of lies. And so it was for Juna. If Namjoon was even still interested in her after the date at the coffee shop. Nara had to admit that it amused her big time when Namjoon was only handing Juna the rose to prove to Yoongi that his choices weren’t all that bad when in fact… Namjoon had made the worst choice ever.

“Mihoon is getting out of hand…“, Johanna mentioned when Aejin, Areum and her were sitting together in the living room. She was as always armed with one of the books she either brought from home with her or found in the mansion’s library.

“What do you mean?“, Aejin, who hadn’t been around when the fight between Miso and Mihoon broke out ,asked.

“Mihoon… is targeting some of the people in the house.“, Johanna explained further. “She fought with Miso because Miso said something - that I admit was a little… inappropriate - and I heard from Bunbun that Mihoon basically kicked her out of their room.“ Johanna looked a little uncomfortable speaking about it like that but also she must have seen some need to talk about it otherwise she wouldn’t have mentioned it.

Areum just blinked at the two others when Johanna was done speaking. She didn’t hear anything about the Bunbun - Mihoon incident but after witnessing the conflict with Miso, she was pretty sure that there was some point in it.

“I wouldn’t believe anything that Bunbun says. Sometimes she says things that I doubt are even true.“, Aejin shook her head and wrapped her arms around her knees.

Areum shuddered, thinking of Mihoon. Mihoon and Nara reminded her a lot of those bullies back at school. Mihoon being the leader while Nara was following. For some reason those two always kept staying together. Just like bullies. And both were intimidating. Just like bullies.

“Then should we ask Nara or Yeonhee about it?“, Johanna suggested.

“Erk, no. Nara freaks me out. She’s… I don’t know. I just don’t like talking to her.“, Aejin replied and started shaking like a wet dog. “And I doubt that Yeonhee even noticed any of this. She doesn’t really care about what happens here, especially cat fights. But hey… Johanna, why do you even care?“

The short-haired girl suddenly looked busted as Aejin mentioned it and when she started giggling, Johanna moved as if she was about to defend herself.

“Baek Johanna, can it be that you are just worried because you like Yoongi so much?!“ The moment Aejin vocalized her thoughts, Areum felt slapped in her face. It was… ouch. The whole time Areum had ignored the fact that she wasn’t the only one who liked Yoongi. And there were already girls who worried about contestants like Mihoon getting too close to those they liked. Was it time for Areum to worry as well? Especially since one of her friends liked one of the bachelors she was into?

“I…I’m…. oh man Aejin, stop it! I’m not into Yoongi!“, Johanna huffed, but her face that started blushing revealed how she was feeling.

“Well, good for me then. Because I planned on winning that salty gramps for myself!“, Aejin teased and again Johanna’s expression revealed what she was thinking.

“You what?!“

The whole conversation put Areum into a panic mindset. Aejin and Johanna both… this wasn’t ending somewhere good. All of a sudden Areum felt like making friends had been a bad idea. At the end of the show when the girls were head to head against each other fighting over the same guy, how could a friendship survive this?

“Sorry… I’ll be back in a minute.“, Areum said and got up from the couch, leaving the living room and the two other contestants behind. The girl walked for a bit, passing by two of the bathrooms when she heard some tunes coming from somewhere further away. Of course she followed it. Following sounds that usually weren’t to be heard around happened to lead to bachelors. That was what the others tended to claim at least. So Areum followed what she soon recognized as a saxophone playing. And behind closed doors she found Taehyung playing passionately on his sax.

In his plain black pants and his plain white shirt he managed to shine as bright as his instrument. And it led to Areum’s heart skipping a beat. Taehyung didn’t even notice the girl as he was enjoying his own playing, his eyes closed while he was moving in the room as if he was dancing with the sax.

Areum was enjoying watching Taehyung, gushing over him the longer he went on until he finally turned around and noticed the bystander. He stopped and blinked at Areum.

“…hi?“

The girl also blinked before she gave a short and insecure “Hi“ back at him. There was a pause and awkward silence as neither Taehyung nor Areum were saying anything, forcing the contestant to take action. “You…are really good!“, she praised him and gave him a thumbs up.

Taehyung started laughing and nodded in appreciation. “Thank you.“

All she got as a further response was a beam. That was it.

Awkwardly Areum started waving at Taehyung and moved backwards out of the room, making sure to close the door behind her. For a whole moment she remained there and then couldn’t help but facepalming herself for how idiotic she was acting. Yes, it was officially confirmed. Areum had to change her strategy. Like this she would neither impress Yoongi, nor Taehyung… no, she wouldn’t impress anyone like this!

It was already evening and the date with Hoseok and Jungkook was still going on with the suitcases of each contestant attending the date being positioned right across the front door. The typical procedure during dates in which an elimination would take place. Every contestant had to be prepared to move out on the spot whenever the bachelors decided to send them back home.

Yeonhee, Bunbun and Nara all happened to pass by the living room at the same time when they noticed how Namjoon was sitting in there, his eyes drilling holes into the luggage that he could see straight from the seat he was sitting on.

“Namjoon!“, Bunbun was the quickest to rush over to him, Nara heaving a short sigh while Yeonhee could only roll her eyes. “How are you doing? And what are you doing here right now?“, she asked.

Nara then decided to not let the chance pass to get some attention as well, joining them with Yeonhee just reluctantly following.

“I’m waiting for the elimination.“, Namjoon told her and then looked at Nara and Yeonhee, his face suddenly brightening. “Hey, you two are around, too?“

“You want Jaemi to leave, hm?“ The bachelor chuckled when Nara voiced out his thoughts.

“And you can bet I throw a party for everyone if she leaves tonight - not that I doubt it.“, he answered straight-forward as always. “It’s a waste of space to keep her here.“

While they were talking some of the staffs suddenly showed up and went to the suitcases, taking one of them out while two others carried the remaining ones back up to the rooms. Namjoon watched them with his mouth dropping open a little. “Wait…whose luggage did they just take with them?“, Namjoon asked.

“Jaemi’s.“, Yeonhee answered and immediately Namjoon jumped up, grabbing Yeonhee who was standing next to him, to lift her up and twirl her around before he let her stand on her own feet again to run through the living room with his arms up in the air as if he had just scored the final points during a match that changed the entire outcome of the game.

“YES! YES, YES, YES!“

Everyone was scared to death of possibly getting eliminated, especially since nobody knew what was going to happen, choosing the empty card to write their names on. Minseo would have chosen the fun in the sand date… if it wasn’t Jimin whose name had been written on that card. Damn Jimin… Minseo couldn’t help it but he reminded her so much of that stupid idiot that basically made her apply for the show. And it made her wanting to punch Jimin whenever she saw him. It wasn’t even his fault. But at the same time… it was his fault for being Jimin.

Minseo was super tensed until Seokjin entered the room and all the worries torturing her seemed to be far far away, even forgotten when he smiled at her. His pretty face was lightening up everyone’s mood and Minseo’s in particular when he started cleaning after her. It would have been a lie if she had claimed that she didn’t drop one or two things on purpose. Yet, it was him who inspired her to grab his attention this way. After all, it wasn’t his job to clean after her, right? But he did. And Minseo enjoyed watching him doing it.

The tension built up again nonetheless when Seokjin was testing all the dishes Minseo and the other contestants had prepared and his fascination for Jiwoo’s pizza, yeah PIZZA, was almost having the same effect as a bomb dropped in the kitchen. Nobody could believe how excited the bachelor got over the pizza dish and how he stormed out, almost forgetting to inform the girls about the elimination that would not even take place.

“Okay, girls, now clean up the kitchen!“, Inguk told them when he noticed that some of them were about to leave the kitchen like Seokjin did.

“Wait… we have to clean?“, Minseo asked the MC in surprise.

Inguk frowned but laughed it away. “Uh, yeah? Where do you think you’re at? This is not your mom’s house and I’m not cleaning for you.“

Wow. Rude. But also he was right. So… no chance to escape anyway.

While Johanna and Areum started cleaning the pots, Minseo noticed how Jiwoo and Jiho weren’t really cleaning up. Instead they were talking about… rather weird things. But it all started so innocently…

“Wow, you can cook pizza! That’s pretty amazing!“, Jiho cheered for Jiwoo who very pleased looked back at her.

“I just learned how to make pizza because of Jungkook-oppa!“ The way Jiwoo called Jungkook oppa was kind of creeping Minseo out. “And see what happened… he’s gonna eat it even though he’s not even around!“

“…wait…how do you know that Jungkook likes pizza?“ The gamer girl suddenly looked very skeptical.

“Jungkook is famous and I am a fan. Of course I know what his favorite dish is!“, Jiwoo told her.

So she was a fan…? And… it was a coincidence that Jiwoo ended up in the same program as Jungkook? Huh… okay this was starting to irk Minseo somehow.

“And as I noticed you’re kind of are a fan of Jin as well, hm?“, Jiwoo went on teasing Jiho who immediately blushed.

Okay, wait, wait, wait! First of all… why on earth did Jiwoo call Seokjin Jin?! Second… Jiho liked Seokjin?! Minseo’s eyes widened when she heard that. Wow… if Jiho managed to get closer to Seokjin.. and her and Minseo’s styles weren’t all that different… NOOOOO! This was no good!

“What? Fan? Noooo, I’m not a fan!“, Jiho contradicted immediately.

Jiwoo refused to believe any of it no matter what the gamer told her. “Oh common, you don’t need to deny it. It’s not bad to be a fangirl. It has a lot of advantages even! I mean… look at how my pizza plan worked out. Jungkook is going to eat it and he’ll know it was me who made it! So who’s going to fall in love soon?“ The girl flipped her hair while saying it, looking overly confident as her eyes wandered upwards to the ceiling with everyone being able to read from her face who she was thinking of right now.

Next to Jiho even Inguk had started to listen to the girls and his face was showing how disturbing Jiwoo looked to him. The hardcore fangirl didn’t notice any of it, though. She was joyfully going on pulling Jiho into her fangirl idea.

“Listen closely, unnie.“, she finally started and drew a little closer to Jiho. She was talking in a volume that only those that were directly around her were able to hear it. In other words: Jiho. And eavesdropping Inguk and Minseo. “The first step is to build a shrine.“

The ?! Minseo’s, Inguk’s and even Jiho’s reaction was exactly the same. A very, very shocked facial expression. Jiwoo just giggled as she gently patted Jiho’s back and then went over to throw some of the trash away.
