All that glitters is not gold

“Don’t you think you two were a little harsh on the girls?“, Jungkook asked while he was picking some of the bone pieces out of the stew pot that was in the middle of the table. After the challenge at the Highschool was over, some of the bachelors went straight for one of the restaurants nearby to have some lunch together. And of course they decided to go for a hangover stew. Jimin by the time looked a lot better after eating a bit, yet still very tired.

“What do you mean? Know your limit, that’s what they should think of first before partying hard.“, Hoseok answered while chewing on some rice. 



“Says the one who partied hard himself.“, Taehyung couldn’t withstand adding, gaining a little side glance from the bachelor who he was talking about.

“I know I can drink a lot so that’s okay. Some of the girls clearly couldn’t. And why do you blame me, you did exactly the same.“ With that said Hoseok wasn’t willing to go any further into the conversation, changing the topic. “Anyway, I am a little disappointed Yoongi and Namjoon didn’t join us. It’s not as if we’re holding this show alone.“, he muttered.

Seokjin frowned when he heard Hoseok complaining about those two. “They are taking care of the editing, someone has to do it after all. Don’t blame them for working on this when you didn’t want to.“ The oldest was eyeing Hoseok with judgmental eyes.

Jungkook in the meantime started chuckling. “In all honesty I don’t think it’s a good idea letting Yoongi talk to the producers about the editing. He’ll probably ask them to not show certain parts of the party.“ The others immediately looked at Jungkook with interest that hadn’t been there before. Jungkook couldn’t help but grin even wider when he saw the confused faces. “Are you really that blind? Didn’t you see how he was looking at one of the girls? He’s so into her, it wouldn’t surprise me if he asks the editors to cut all the scenes that could start any controversies about her.“ Carefree he went on picking out some meat.

“Who are we talking about?“, Seokjin wanted to know.

“The mermaid.“, the youngest answered while totally being focused on the bowl in front of him, not caring the slightest bit of how the others were looking, hearing him say that. “…damn, this really is some good stuff!“

The whole contest had been a pain. A pain in the . That was how much Jiho knew. And it just hadn’t been made for her. And it was haunting her thoughts still when the women all arrived back at the mansion, most of them dropping straight back into their beds. Jiho headed for her bed, too, but while Yeeun, Yumin and Yumi were diving back into dreamland, she was lying in her bed, the thoughts about what had happened flooding her mind. She had ed things up, no question. Without Minhye she wouldn’t even had been able to do anything. And this bothered her. Especially since she knew how important it was to win in those competitions.

A loud sigh ran over her lips, remaining unheard by her sleeping roommates. Just one of them was still awake and noticed her worries.

“You’re not sleeping?“, Johanna asked and Jiho’s head went up as soon as she heard her voice. Johanna was lying on her stomach, a book in her hands. This girl was too smart for her own good.

“Can’t.“, Jiho told her and the worries must have shown on her face.

“Are you worried because of the challenge?“, the girl got up from her lying position and put the book aside, ready to hear the gamer girl out if she needed some comfort. “Do you want to talk about it?“



Jiho sighed shortly. “I just can’t get over the fact that I totally ed things up.“, she automatically spoke without thinking deeper about if she should really tell the other contestant or not.



“At the end of the day it doesn’t matter if you win or loose a challenge… as long as you grab any given opportunity to get to know the bachelors.“, Johanna tried to encourage her but Jiho wasn’t all that convinced of her words.

“That’s easy to say as someone who enjoyed a winning streak today.“ There was a short pause and awkward silence between the girls, Jiho pretty soon figuring that her words had been a little too salty. “Uhm… I mean… I didn’t mean to be… you know, I just…“



The other girl just laughed silently. “It’s okay.“, she said. “I think I get what you mean. But we don’t know who of us did best or worst, they didn’t announce the results yet. Minhye did good, I don’t think that you guys score that bad. But even then… just try to get to know the bachelors outside of challenges. After all you’re here to get to know them.“ She shrugged shortly. “Is there any bachelor you already like?“



The moment she mentioned it, Jiho felt the blood running into her head. Oh yeah… there was a bachelor she really liked. And one she felt very attracted to. “Kind of.“, she mumbled and again heaved a sigh. Jimin… Park Jimin was killing her. The moment he first arrived in the helicopter like one of those video game characters in some ego-shooter games had her melting on the spot. It was a shame that every time he showed up, Jiho felt frightened to death and couldn’t help but run for her life. And then there was Seokjin who she had made a fool of herself in front of. Pretty, awesomely friendly Seokjin. Someone she was actually able to talk to. And then again not. It was frustrating.

“Then just talk to them next time you see them. We live in the same house after all. Can’t be that difficult to meet them, right?“

If she had just known…




The sun hadn’t been up for a long time when Jimin cautiously sneaked through the floors. The bachelors hadn’t met any of the contestants during the days the special dates took place, so now they were extra cautious wandering through the mansion. There weren’t even all around. Namjoon, Yoongi and Seokjin all had to go back to work, so the only ones staying with the girls were Jimin, Jungkook, Hoseok and Taehyung. One of them Jimin met down in the kitchen.

“You’re up early.“, Jungkook greeted him, already sitting at one of the bar stools, a cup of coffee in his hands. Jimin walked over to the coffee machine, easily turning it on although it was a super fancy machine that looked hard to use.

“You, too.“, Jimin gave back and frowned. “How come? Never seen you up that early when you had a day-off.“ 

All Jungkook did in response was to smirk. “Just wait for it.“

He didn’t promise too much. A few minutes later, the reason why Jungkook was already up entered the kitchen. One of the contestants, only wearing a bikini and a bathrobe.

“Oh, good morning.“ She looked a little surprised, but at the same time… not too much. As if she didn’t really care. A camera team was already following her. Oh yeah, Jimin felt lucky that those didn’t follow the bachelors around the whole time. The contestants were a lot more interesting as it seemed.

“Coffee?“ Jungkook wanted to get up from his seat but the woman cut him off.

“No, thank you. Maybe later.“ And like that she walked through the kitchen to use the glass door that led straight to the pool which was having thick vapor ascending from it. It was January, freaking cold outside and this beauty of a woman was making use of the pool. 

There had never been a moment where Jimin was more thankful for heated pools than now.

“HOLY ! Who was that?!“, he immediately exclaimed when the contestant was gone, yet still in range of sight as the kitchen allowed a more than magnificent view of the pool.

“Mihoon.“, Jungkook informed the personal trainer and took a very pleased sip of his coffee.

“And how did you know that she’d be here?“, Jimin further asked.

“Inguk.“

Of course Inguk knew when the best things would happen and Jungkook as always was quick on checking out the most important things. Jimin should have done that, too. He could have missed watching Mihoon!

“Just for your interest, she’s the mermaid.“, the singer warned Jimin, but he was too busy watching Mihoon swimming backstroke.

“…sorry what?“, he apathetically gave back, his whole body frozen on the spot, right in front of the glass door.

“She’s the one that Yoongi is into.“, Jungkook explained. “I thought, you’d like to know that before ending up in a fight with him.“

Jimin finally turned around and sat across Jungkook - still on a seat where he could every now and then catch a glimpse of Mihoon. “Are you really warning me of Yoongi? Are you serious?“, he asked the singer who responded with a shrug. “Yoongi is an emotional cripple and he knew exactly what might happen when I got added to the line-up of bachelors in this. It’s not as if we didn’t know each other before. Not as if he doesn’t know me well enough by now.“ He had the typical undertone in his voice, mocking others whenever possible. “He knows exactly what’s going to happen.“

“So you’re still going for her when you can?“, the youngest bachelor asked.

“Bang, bang, bang!“ Welp. That was certainly a way of how a Big Bang song line could also be used.
 



The day of the challenge was hell. The day after that, too. At least to those who couldn’t handle any alcohol. Sunhee was glad she wasn’t one of those who completely got destroyed thanks to the party. But also she felt a little bored being all actively capable to hit it off but then again having no chance to do . Why? Because the freaking staffs kept them hostage in the mansion. And they weren’t even allowed to turn on the TV.

No TV, no smartphones… she felt like being thrown back into stone age. Sunhee got so bored, it felt like torture. A bored Sunhee was a nagging Sunhee.

“DO SOMETHIIIIING~!“, she whined, sitting on the couch surrounded by other girls who were having a chat. They all looked very surprised at her.

“What…?“, Minhye asked and furrowed her eyebrows, insecure if she should frown or laugh.

“It’s so boring, how do you survive this?“ The others just chuckled hearing her.

With nothing to do it wasn’t a surprise that the girls automatically got overly focused on the bachelors. With nothing else to do (except for if they brought books etc to the mansion), it was just too easy falling into obsession with guys that they didn’t even know well until then. Who was a hidden card? Who was the most charming? What might be the next challenge? Would they like them? All those questions occurred in multiple conversations and Sunhee could actually start a catalogue of who of the girls liked who of the bachelors. 

Usually she would start shipping couples she thought look cute but until now there were only two people she shipped and those were Yumi and Hoseok. From what she had grabbed up others were talking about, those two might actually work out with their obsession for kids. But besides that? Not yet, not yet.

There was another thing, though, that Sunhee noticed. It was the way of how the others were approaching things. When she first met the girls, she could recall some of them being more than hesitant in approaching the bachelors. But when she was sitting on her bed, just having woken up around fifteen minutes ago and Mihoon was passing by the door of their room, telling her roommates something that got everyone - even her roommates - into an uproar, she knew that things had changed within a few days only.

Hana was preparing herself for some Yoga downstairs, Sunhee thinking about joining her, while Miso was putting on make-up and Jiwoo was scribbling something into a notebook. Only Juna was still dozing in her bed. Until Mihoon happened.

“…by the way, Jungkook and Jimin are downstairs.“, she said and immediately a bunch of girls was rushing out of their rooms.

Sunhee looked around, only Juna being left with her, the girl sleepily raising her head because the sudden outbreak of girlish panic had interrupted her peaceful and extensively long slumber. “…what?… what happened?“, she asked, her eyes still halfway closed, a trace of dried up saliva running down her chin. This Juna looked very different from the Juna that was running around the mansion during the day.

“Jungkook and Jimin are downstairs.“, Sunhee repeated and expected Juna to get up as well. After the girl had approached Jimin in a more than intrusive way, everyone was pretty sure that Juna was aiming for the personal coach. Although she never admitted it.

“Oh…“, she just said and her head went down on the pillow again.

Sunhee frowned. Juna was not getting up like all the others? Why? Maybe she just didn’t see a sense in trying too hard after already getting the First Impression Rose from Jimin. That was something Sunhee at least could relate to. She as well decided that she’d not be too aggressive as she got Yoongi’s rose and felt as if it’d be better to give others a chance to get close to the bachelors who needed more opportunities to gather plus points with them to stay in the show. Sunhee was safe after all. A lot of the girls weren’t. Play fair, give everyone a fair share. That was how to handle this correctly in her opinion.

Yet… it was only the first week and it already felt like a tough competition. For how long could she allow herself to lay back and relax?


 




She had missed them. Every time when the bachelors were sighted by others, she missed them. And Bunbun was pretty sure that some of the girls weren’t telling the others when they met the bachelors on purpose. But she just judged them at first and maybe at second glance. After all she’d do exactly the same. Solo time with the bachelors was a rare good. And even though Bunbun was safe thanks to Namjoon’s rose, she wanted to get to know the bachelors better. Anything that could help her get a billionaire by any chance was worth acting a . Even though she’d pretty much appreciate if it was Namjoon.

Bunbun tried her best to avoid hanging out too much with others. Mihoon in particular. After the bartender-off she couldn’t really stand Mihoon and she was pretty sure that the dislike was not one-sided. It didn’t really help that they were sharing a room, either. About the other roommates she had? Yeonhee was pretty okay, Yubi was irritating Bunbun most of the time with her randomly photographing everything (Bunbun wasn’t even sure if she did it because she was just plainly bored or if it actually was a rather annoying hobby the woman had) and Nara… oh Nara…

Nara freaked the out of Bunbun. Not because she was extremely intimidating… but because she was creepy as . She had those eyes that straight saw through you and it shot shivers down Bunbun’s spine. And every time Bunbun opened to say something, Nara looked at her like a psychologist, judging her every word. Jeez, that woman should just stay away. Not a fan of her, surely not. 

The camera guys had already given up following Bunbun around the mansion, mostly because she was spending a lot of time in her room, busy reading one or two books she got from the mansions’ very own library the girls had explored during the second day they had nothing to do. So when she finally left the room, there wasn’t even a camera around to follow her.

The kitchen was empty, the others already all done with dinner, Bunbun being the last one to use it. It was okay like that. She wasn’t here to make friends anyway. She was here to get herself some rich dude that could get her out of the pitiful life she was living.

…and one of them showed up to her surprise after a while.

“Oh, heeeey~.“, the dark-haired bachelor greeted and moved around the kitchen island where Bunbun was sitting. Jimin… feast for the eyes but at the same time just another show-off as Bunbun was used to meet during work. It had its charm, though. That she couldn’t deny.

“Hey, Jimin.“, she simply said back and gave him a little smile.

Jimin attacked straight. He sat down next to her, smirking at her while checking what she was eating. “Smells heavenly.“, he praised and came a little closer.

“Uh, thanks. Got to learn cooking a while ago.“, Bunbun told him but the smirk on his lips was irritating her a bit.

“I was not talking about the food.“



The temperature in the room suddenly turned up immensely. Jimin was already up so close, the young female was able to feel Jimin’s breath close to her ear. Bunbun didn’t even speak to Jimin before but here he was, trying to hook up with her, wasn’t he? Some of the bachelors surely didn’t want to wait for anything. Or he wasn’t taking the whole thing too seriously. At the same time… Bunbun knew a lot of rich dudes who acted exactly like this. Couldn’t hurt to play along, nevertheless, and in all honesty… Bunbun enjoyed Jimin’s attempts to get with her. It after all showed her that he must have been attracted to her in some way.

“Mind if I try what smells so good?“, Jimin asked and Bunbun’s entire body suddenly heated up.

“Here in the kitchen? Wouldn’t that be inappropriate?“ Her voice was a lot calmer than how she felt but she didn’t mind playing along and giving him an endearing undertone in her voice.

Jimin instantly started chuckling. “Well…all I wanna do to you is inappropriate.“



This was going somewhere and Bunbun was ready to follow Jimin wherever he wanted… if there hadn’t been a disturbance that ruined everything within seconds. 


“HEY GORGEOUS!“, Jimin suddenly turned around, the whole al vibe being gone as he welcomed Juna in the kitchen who walked passed the kitchen island to get to the fridge.

“Oh! Hey…“, she greeted back and halted in front of the fridge, obviously thinking about what his name was, “…JIMIN!“

The bachelor jumped up from his seat and rushed over to her like a puppy that was waiting for its owner to return back home. And yupp, he was all up her .

Bunbun was boiling of anger. Why on earth were all these women ruining her time with the bachelors?! Bunbun had just found another arch nemesis.

Inguk was sitting in the TV room, the one that actually looked like a real movie theatre, but the screen was pitch-black. Simply because the bachelors had decided that the girls would only get movies to watch if they won some DVDs during challenges. And so Inguk ended up bored to death himself. At least he still had his phone, the internet was able to keep him some entertaining company.

“Why did I even join this…?“, Inguk wondered and sighed. Joining the program had him do nothing else than this: Be the others’ errand boy. ‚Get them drunk!’, ‚Keep an eye on them!‘ or ‚Tell us if something noticing-worthy happens!‘ were common commands he had to listen to on a daily basis. The guys should be thankful that they were friends with Inguk, otherwise he would have left this ship a long time ago.

He was reminded of another reason, though, when Hana walked into the room, all surprised to find the MC sitting in one of the rows. “Oh! Hey, Inguk!“ And with that said she was approaching him in an instant.

Inguk watched her with raised eyebrows but who was he to complain when a Victoria Secret model wanted to sit down next to him? “Hey beautiful.“, he greeted her back as she took seat next to him and beamed widely. The whole room suddenly seemed to brighten up.

“What are you doing here?“, Hana asked, eyeing the phone in his hands. “The screen doesn’t work. I feel tricked, they gave us a room like this but we can’t make proper use of it. What is this?“ Even though she was complaining about it, she laughed a little and Inguk couldn’t help but find her absolutely adorable. Or it was just his bored, way too lonesome self that had a beautiful woman right in front of him.

“You wanna watch a movie?“ As the female looked up at him, Inguk started grinning. “We can watch a movie and see how long my phone’s battery will last.“, he suggested, Hana being all up for it.

“Sounds great!“, she agreed, “I’m in. Just wait a sec, I’ll get us some popcorn, then it’s a real movie date.“

Movie date? Was this girl aware of the fact that she was here to date one of the bachelors and not the MC? Inguk watched her leaving with a mixture of amusement and confusion. Well… if he was better in this game than the bachelors, who was to judge him for having some fun, too?

Complacently he leaned back into the seat as the next girl walked in. This time someone whose name Inguk couldn’t even recall. It was one of the short-haired girls.

“Oh…u-uhm, s-sorry, I d-didn’t mean to… I just heard people talking and then Hana left and… I just wanted…“, she stuttered with a husky voice.

“You’re looking for someone to talk to?“, Inguk asked and the girl looked shook.

“I-I… you d-don’t need to… I don’t mean to bother…“

Oh man, some girls really needed to be taught how to have a proper conversation. Inguk rolled his eyes and tried not to sigh before he hailed at her. Insecurely the girl came closer. 

“What’s the problem?“, the MC asked.

“Can I just talk to you about things like that? Aren’t you the MC?“, she still worried. Heck, Inguk wished he could remember her name, so he could yell at her properly and shake her.

“Tell me something new.“, he said and frowned. “So what’s the matter? Scared of some of the bachelors? Scared of getting eliminated?“ The girl looked pretty concerned after he mentioned it. Yupp, Inguk pretty much hit bull’s eye. “What’s your problem with the bachelors?“

The contestant started kneading the edges of her colorful jacket, probably the only thing on her that was striking - the fancy looking jacket. “It’s just… I can’t function properly around them. I just can’t converse with amazing guys like that.“

Inguk’s frown grew bigger when he heard her say that. “Wow, thank you…“, he mumbled, a little offended of how she was indirectly letting him know that he was nothing like the bachelors, so she could just easily talk to him. She didn’t seem to mind, though. Or at least she didn’t notice and went on.

“They are just… so perfect. And handsome. And nice. And… they are… just amazing.“

The MC cleared his throat to interrupt her listing of what great of people the bachelors were. “You do realize I’m sitting right here, don’t you?“, he reminded her and the girl looked up at him with an irritated glance.

“Eh?“

Lucky girl just got rescued by Hana the next moment when the model rushed into the room with popcorn and stopped a little taken aback, seeing another girl sitting with the MC.

Bonding with other girls? Approaching the bachelors? Johanna didn’t feel like any of it. She wasn’t of the socializing kind whereas she gladly listened to anyone who needed a shoulder to lie and cry on, unbosoming themselves. Yet, she rather stayed for herself until she figured what was right or wrong to her. Even after enjoying the date in the private jet with the bachelors and Aejin, she didn’t know what to think of the bachelors. This all just seemed to be overly superficial. How were the girls supposed to fall in love when they barely got to know the bachelors.

Johanna didn’t want to while away her time being unproductive, so what she did was touring through the house, finding herself some entertainment. Amazement struck her when she found the room with the grand piano in it and so she spent the last day before the Rose Ceremony in it, practicing some piano playing. The sound of the piano was attracting other contestants like honey did to flies but after they noticed that it wasn’t one of the bachelors playing, they all left rather disappointed. Even the camera man got bored with her and left after an hour or two and so Johanna was left alone with the grand piano. But she honestly didn’t even mind.

“Interesting.“

The sudden voice appearing behind her froze her fingers in the middle of a movement and the piano silenced at once. Johanna turned around… to face Yoongi. He was one of those bachelors who she didn’t even see once around. The quirky ones were to be found pretty often, whereas mostly besieged by the others, but this bachelor over here was considered a rare sight.

“You re-arranged classical pieces.“, Yoongi said and stepped closer. Johanna suddenly felt pressured, knowing that Yoongi was a producer, and as the others said a pretty successful one as well.

“It’s simple.“, she remarked very modestly.

“I know.“

Was Yoongi aware of the fact how brusque he was? He surely didn’t waste any unnecessary words on others. And he was very skilled in even making someone smart as Johanna feel like a child that was talking to a strict teacher.

“But it’s the first step in arranging own compositions. That is what is less simple. You want me to teach you?“, he asked and waited right next to the piano. Johanna speechlessly looked up at him, the grey patterned suit making him look all the more like a teacher.

“…sure.“, Johanna answered sheepishly and Yoongi soon was sitting next to her, explaining her some basics and tricks how to compose songs that sounded simple at first but then added rhythmical base lines and similar to make them actually interesting and unique. The girl didn’t really feel like this was a ‚bachelor meets contestant‘ scenario. It was someone very passionately teaching what he was devoted to.

Music was awesome. Music could bond people.

“Uuuuuugh, I hate this!“

The bachelors were sitting in their office, all focused on the big black board in front of them were the pictures of the contestants were pinned at. Inguk was sitting in the back, watching the guys choosing who would stay and who would leave.

“Okay, let’s keep those who went on dates with us, that’d be the best choice I guess. We got to know them better after all.“, Namjoon suggested but the others had mixed reactions to it. While Hoseok was agreeing to this idea, Taehyung didn’t want to accept that decision.

“But I want to get to know the other girls, too! Who knows, maybe we are missing out on something if we send them home!“, he justified his mindset.

Namjoon muttered something, too silent to understand, before he turned around to the others. “Then how should we proceed. We can’t keep them all. We have to send two of them home tonight.“

“Maybe each of us just picks one he wants to stay until we are left with only two?“, Jungkook brought up his idea but Namjoon only scoffed at it.

“Jungkook, your ideas are bullcrap! I am against anything he says, this boy hit his head during rehearsals or something, his judgment is the crappiest I’ve ever seen!“ The rapper went all angry on him and shook his head bewilderedly.

Hoseok, Jimin and Taehyung all looked at Namjoon with surprise in their eyes. “Wow, since when do you two not get along with each other?“

“Since Jungkook decided to keep Jaemi in the game.“, Seokjin answered their question.

“Yeah, I don’t get how you could keep her around! She’s not even here to fall in love! Is this a game to you? There are people truly wanting to fall in love and you keep those around who are here for fame only? Did you get paid by your entertainment to keep her in?“, Namjoon let out a stream of rants.

Jungkook just laughed about it. “Let’s just say I had my reasons.“

“Are you dating her by any chance?“ Seokjin’s question had the others all alarmed.

Jungkook’s amusement vanished. “Ugh! No!“, he waved their thoughts away.

While the guys were discussing and arguing, Yoongi got up from his seat and walked straight to the blackboard, taking three pictures off of it and walked back to the table in the middle of the seats. “I don’t care about the others, but keep those three around.“, he told the bachelors and then left.

“Hah! And like that he leaves. Dramatically as always, our Yoongi.“, Jimin commented.

“At least he knows what he wants.“ Inguk got all impatient, watching the guys not making any process. “Just choose finally, you don’t have that much time left until the ceremony…!“

The guys all fell into silence.

“Now if I think about it, it would be easier to just kick those out who we don’t like. I have a bunch of girls that pretty much got me super annoyed this week after the dates. They were basically pestering us! I couldn’t walk around without being attacked just for a single minute!“, Jungkook started to complain. The others couldn’t help but frown about it again.

“Oh, boohoo, Jungkook gets too much attention. Isn’t that what your daily life looks like anyway? With all those crazy fans?“, Namjoon was back ranting at Jungkook.

“Yeah, but those people don’t ask me the same questions over and over again. I’m not a freaking tape deck that you can play over and over again. Jeez, I wish they had their phones still, I’d just tell them to ing go google me.“

Again there was silence (with Inguk silently laughing in the back because he honestly was more than amused now).

“Okay, let’s just do it as Jungkook suggested first.“, Namjoon gave in and Jungkook immediately had a winning, smug smirk on his lips, the anger having vanished. The rapper didn’t look happy at all about it, though.

After coming up with a new strategy to choose, they pretty quickly ended up with only four girls remaining from which they had to choose. Yumin, Jiho, Minhye and Yeeun.

“Anyone who is emotionally involved with one of the girls?“, Namjoon asked once those were the only ones left.

“I know that Yoongi liked Minhye during the competition, but also he just gave us three of the contestants and said he doesn’t care about the others.“, Jungkook answered and shrugged.

Jimin eyed the pictures another time and vocalized his thinking mind by humming quietly. “Let’s keep Yumin. She got super wasted but during the party she was fun. And I think Juna likes her.“

“Oh Juna!“, Jungkook exclaimed. “That girl is gold! You should have seen how she danced! Yoongi was terrified!“

“Yoongi was terrified?“, Hoseok asked and started laughing. “Damn, I need to see that once the show is over!“
